Better than expected

It is warmer and better than previously expected. First time I tried it in 15 degree Celsius (I'm living in Europe) in around 30 km/h wind with just a no name T shirt. I talked with my neighbour for an our and it was a little bit too warm. Next time I used with a merino baselayer in 9 degree Celsius in light rain and small wind. I drove car, went to shop and post office, so it was a normal daily use. I just shake off the rain drops from the jacket before got in the car. The jacket did an excellent job. I did not feel cold but I was not overheated when I was inseide.

They ruined a great product

I owned a pair of Proton FLs for a few years. They were great, and the face fabric was super durable. I never had a pulled thread or pilling after countless hours of wearing and who knows how many washes. The new Proton Lightweight is completely different. In fact, it's so different that I think using the same product page and historical reviews is disingenuous to the max. The face fabric on this piece is garbage. After two days of hiking I had pilling under the armpits and across my shoulders from my backpack straps. I also had pulled threads EVERYWHERE. Seriously, there must have been 30-50 small pulls on every part of the jacket from basic wear. No bushwhacking here! Open-ground hiking. So the pulls were coming from daily wear such as getting in and out of a car or repeatedly shouldering a backpack. Two decades of being an Arc customer and I have never seen anything so bad. It is so bad that I can't quite fathom how any material this fragile was even developed, let alone allowed past a beta-testing phase. Easily the worst piece of clothing I have ever bought, and I'm someone that has spent well into the five figures on Arcteryx product in my life.

Cozy, light warmth and highly breathable

I got the Proton Lightweight hoody a few weeks ago. I’ve been wearing it during spring weather (sun, wind, dry and wet weather) with and without a Arc’teryx shell. I get warm fast with some fleece, but this jacket maximizes breath ability with out sacrificing warmth. Very practical pockets (sides pockets are línea with warm fleece). I like that it zips up high and the hood somewhat disappears when I’m not wearing it. Packs light so you can carry it anywhere. Great versatile piece for anytime (could easily replace your cotton hoodie)

Neve-Take-Off Spring Jacket

When I got this jacket, the first thing I did was work up a sweat and test out how it breathed compared to other jackets. When I put it on after testing two other jackets, I was in awe of how it instantly created a sort of micro-climate around me when zipped up. It allowed my body to comfortable vent without feeling smothered by the fabric. When my body temperature started to lower, the jacket provided a comfortable degree of warmth in both snow and spring desert conditions. I read in other reviews how some commented on the Proton's deficient in terms in wind protection, but I found how the jacket lets a refreashing breath of outside air in occasionally to be the exact opposite of a problem and welcoming. That being written, the face fabric is rightfully delicate and after a small bouldering jaunt, I found I unexpectedly tore a small hole on the outside of the fabric. But ultimately, that rip was my fault and good gear used often gets speckled with grear tape.
Q: Pros:
A: Breathable, Warm
Q: Cons:
A: Light on durability

My favourite goto jacket

I now own three (3) Proton FL Hoody jackets; a 2021 version (grey), 2022 (Solitude - white-ish), and now this one, the 2023 Proton Lightweight Hoody (black). To me, there's no visible difference between the '22 Proton FL Hoody and the '23 Proton Lightweight Hoody. Unclear why Arc'teryx is leaning away from the FL naming convention. I wear the Proton for just about any occasion, from city-life, hiking, and cold morning runs. HIKING this is my goto jacket for just about any hike, be it fall, winter, or spring. It's ideal. I'll have my wind gear in my pack (Beta Hadron). While I love the '21 version with two breast pockets, I'm grateful Arc'teryx kept a single breast pocket; phone, snacks, map. RUNNING: A few times last winter I used my Proton LT for my coldest runs (-35 to -41ºC) but it gets frosty. This is not the case with the Proton Lightweight - it breathes so well, yet blocks the wind. I ran in it last week, -31ºC, with a Proton Vest FL underneath, as well as mid layer Motus AR LS shirt, and an Ionia Merino Wool LS Hoody base layer. The perfect combination. Random love... Zippers are bomb proof. Pockets have that warm fleece inside. Packable for multi day trips Just an all around amazing jacket for me that checks all the boxes for function, fit, and versatility. Yo! Arc'teryx. While I have no idea what's up with your recent name change, NEVER stop making this jacket! If you do - give me a heads up so I can buy three more!
Q: Pros:
A: Versatile, breathable, comfort
Q: Cons:
A: One breast pocket only
Q: Activity
A: City life, hiking, cold weather running

Amazing jacket, new fit could be slimmer

The Proton FL (old version) has become my go-to winter active jacket. For XC (skate) skiing or running I find it comfortable over just a base tee from about 25-35F, a bit warmer unzipped and colder with a long sleeve base layer. My only complaint with the FL was the sleeve length. At 6' and 135lb I'm at the extreme end of the bell curve and in small the FL sleeves were too short by an inch or more. When the Lightweight was released and said to be more fitted, I ordered a medium. Same features, but the cut isn't fitted: I'd call it a regular fit and it was just baggy (though the arms were just about right). If you're more normally proportioned I'd say go for it. You won't be disappointed. It's comfortable and cozy in a huge range of conditions and beats the Atom SL everywhere but wind resistance. I'll keep my fingers for a small/tall size.
Q: Pros:
A: Comfort, versatility
Q: Cons:
A: Sleeve length
Q: Activity
A: XC skiing, running, hiking, casual

Hello my new favorite piece

Ordered it in black and scored an XL on the app. The octa is unbelievable! It’s so comfortable and slides on over a standard tshirt with ease. It’s feels best with a Cormac. Tried a few options as I thought it was a bit short at first. However after review and comparing to my delta hybrid, it’s a little boxier. Arc considers this a “fitted” however it’s more like an atom LT similar to a “regular” fit. After tightening the hem drawcord I find it fits me better. I’m not slim, more athletic however on the revised it’s a tad boxier than my delta hybrid. (Both considered “fitted”) I’m going to definitely put some miles on this as it’s super lightweight and will pack down better than my atom LT and will be warmer than my delta hybrid. It’s most comfortable as a mid over my atom AR and will serve me well in the New England winters. Overall I’m completely blown away with the feel and how versatile this piece seems to be. Can’t wait to test it as a stand alone as it starts to warm up on some hikes and day trips.
Q: Pros:
A: Soft, versatile, and feels great
Q: Cons:
A: A tad boxy, fitted/regular fit
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, walking, snow activities, and casually

Yes, I recommend this product.

Typical excellent Quality

Arcteryx is very good at designing sportswear to serve a particular purpose. That, in my view, is what applies to this item. If I spent much of my outdoor time rock climbing, I would have kept this item. My needs, day hiking with a dog, sometimes off trail, called for a more durable tougher exterior shell material and not quite is trim in the body. There are other Arcteryx products that will satisfy my purposes.
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, sometimes off trail

Yes, I recommend this product.

My favourite jacket

This is the perfect combination of wind resistance, breathability, and insulation for just about any mountain trip. I wear it as my "approach" layer in cold conditions and then under my shell as insulation in winter. For summer alpine climbing it's perfect for cold mornings and windy ridges. I've probably put 150 or more days on it in the last couple of years, from Maui to China to the Canadian Rockies, just an incredibly versatile and functional piece of gear. Mine is dirty, ripped, and just loved to death because it is always with me. Photo from a backyard training session recently :).
Q: Pros:
A: All pros.
Q: Cons:
A: Red not bright enough :).
Q: Activity
A: Climbing, hiking, running, biking, all of 'em.

Yes, I recommend this product.

An excellent, durable jacket, esp if you run hot.

This is an excellent jacket for more active users. Its great for climbing as well as just taking a walk with a T shirt underneath. I run hot and sometimes my Atom LT is too warm. The Proton FL really fits my use case because you can feel a slight breeze without feeling cold. Even in cold for me (53 degrees F) and rainy conditions, I can throw a shell over and be fine and not over heat. This is a great jacket for more temperate weather/you run hot/or you do a lot of high output activities. The face fabric is sturdier than the atom lt which is nice for abrasion resistance. Keep in mind, this is a climbing jacket so the sleeves are longer to accommodate reaching up.
Q: Pros:
A: good for those who run hot
Q: Cons:
A: not a jacket for those shorter arms
Q: Activity
A: climbing, fall or spring hikes, everyday walks.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perhaps my most versatile and comfortable jacket

After reading about how great the first generation Proton FL was, I picked up my jacket last spring when the second generation came out. I was nervous about the changed to an insulated hood (as the non insulated hood on the Gen 1 was a popular feature) as well as the change in the Octa insulation becoming fuzzy side next to skin, whereas before the mesh side faced the skin. Nearly a year later, these concerns have totally faded away. To be brief, I love this jacket and how it performs. My main uses are hiking and backpacking, but it’s so comfortable with the fuzzy Octa on the skin that I even wear it casually when it is cool enough outside. Somehow this jacket is able to keep me just warm enough from about 5C to 20C, and while being wonderfully breathable it also breaks strong alpine winds and can even handle light precipitation without issue. With thicker baselayers and in a high intensity setting I think one could push this even jacket closer to freezing. The consistency of the Arc’teryx layering system is also wonderful as this jacket perfectly fits under my much older Beta AR without any restriction to my movement. I am 187 cm tall, 80 kg, with a lean athletic build, and I wanted to use this as a mid layer so I went with the size medium. It fits perfectly, close to the body without restriction of movement.
Q: Pros:
A: Comfortable, versatile, slim fit
Q: Cons:
A: More $ compared to competitors
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, backpacking, casual use

Yes, I recommend this product.

Super durable

I wore this almost everyday this summer in Northern BC and Alberta. Used it for treeplanting (which usually destroys clothes) but this held up with no tears or holes despite being brushed against sticks and branches all the time. Kept me warm and was very breathable at high output! Probably my favourite Arcteryx piece
Q: Pros:
A: Super durable and resistant
Q: Activity
A: High output, hiking, camping, backpacking

A great option for ppl who run hot and end up ripping all their layers off in the first 10 minutes of a hike or skin up in the winter. I like the proton family because of their inherent focus on breathability during higher intensity use while still offering a level of warmth and comfort. The new design of the octaloft insulation next to skin is soft and doesn’t impede layering over a long sleeve shirt. I’ve used mine for hiking so far and will continue to test its use in the winter cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
Q: Pros:
A: Breathable, layer-able, comfort
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, camping, XC skiing, high output

Yes, I recommend this product.

My favourite jacket

Bought the blue one around 6 months ago and liked it so much I bought the dark green one too. Very versatile jacket. Really light and comfortable to wear and surprisingly warm. I used it as a light jacket through the fall but it layers well under a shell or a coat for when it’s really cold. I’m 6’3” 180 lbs and the large is perfect for me. I usually have a hard time finding long enough sleeves without an overly baggy body. I recommend it without hesitation, I wear it almost every day.
Q: Pros:
A: Comfortable, light, warm
Q: Cons:
A: None

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Allrounder

The picture in the mail is me skitouring in the Zillertaler Alps. What I really appreciate is its breathability both in cold and warm conditions. Once I used it as a belay jacket and got stuck in some branches. I just ripped my arm out thinking about how to repair it afterwards. But nothing. Not a scratch.
