This harness hits everything I wanted in a harness. It fits like a glove. The harness is perfectly sized to include a little extra room for puffy jackets to sit comfortably under. The ice clipper slots are perfectly located on the belt to sit right on your hips. So easy to see your ice screws and the rear clipper slots ideally out of the way while still easy to reach.
Construction is bomber! All the materials are heavy duty while still being a light harness over all! The buckles are smooth and easy to manipulate with gloves on.

Great all rounder

I've used the harness to instruct indoors and to climb in the Canadian Rockies, Okanagan, Sunshine Coast, and on the Island. I've used it for indoor climbing, sport, and multi-pitching. Throughout it all it's proved to be light, comfortable, and has the features I've needed. While the gear loops took a bit to get used to, having them further back than I was used to helped get closer to the wall on some of the sketchier climbs. 10/10, would recommend to a friend.

If I only had one harness this would be it. As a matter of fact I have a dozen and this is the one I reach for anytime I'm climbing. The only breaks it gets are gym days and some work days because I don't want to put the wear on it.
This harness fits perfectly, is comfortable on long days, light enough for alpine climbing and supportive when it has to catch me. The gear loops are well laid out, gear goes on and off well and rides where I want it. I've had zero durability issues with the one I've owned for 7 years and it gets used a ton both winter and summer. Really one harness to rule them all! Tatsu was a nice color option.

Light but could improve

I am a mountain guide I was using this harness as my daily driver for years. I love how light it is and compact able the two draw backs are long days in the harness definitely takes a toll on the hips. When carrying a double rack it slides down a bit. The main complaint I have though is the way the gear loops are designed the plastic covers always fall off and they need to be a bit more ridged in my opinion.

This is the one. Accept no substitute. I have two; one XS for Summer rock, and a small for ice climbing and mountaineering. The gear loop design, swami, and ice clippers are the best on the market. Durability is excellent, and design is flawless. Get your sizes before they sell out come summer.

The Ideal Trad Climbing Harness

From towering walls in Yosemite to short routes in the gym, the AR-395a harness feels like the ideal harness. Large, rigid gear loops accommodate a double rack easily with room to spare, and the way the webbing is dispersed - spread out over a wide area - feels comfortable even when hanging.
After hundreds of routes over three years, my harness has little to no discernible wear. This is one of those pieces of gear that, if it was lost or stolen, I would immediately re-buy without question.

Ich verwenden den Gurt bereits seit mehreren Jahren zum Alpinklettern bzw. immer dann, wenn ich viel Material am Gurt unterbringen muss.
Die Materialschlaufen sind die Besten die ich an einem Klettergurt je hatte. Groß und das Material wird immer schön nach vorne "gereicht". Außerdem immer super praktisch ist die vierte Schlaufe auf der Rückseite.
Auch der Sitzkomfort ist für mich ausgezeichnet. Dass ein Gurt mit diesen Eigenschaften nicht der leichteste oder kleinste ist, ist denke ich klar. Aber für die Leistung finde ich alles im Rahmen.

Ich habe mir den Gurt für längere Mehrseillängen gekauft, da die Breiten Schlaufen das gewicht sehr gut verteilen und der Gurt daduch sehr angenehm zu Tragen ist. Die steifen Materialschlaufen sind ebenfalls sehr gut. Was mir nicht gut gefällt ist die Befestigung der Gummibänder auf der Rückseite. Diese geht speziell in Kaminen leicht auf. Dadurch hängen dann die Beinschlaufen runter. Dies ist sehr unangenehm und kann gefährlich werden. Zusätzlich finde ich eine Version ohne verstellbare Beinschlaufen sinnvoll. Der Gurt fällt sehr groß aus.

Wirklich absolut empfehlenswert!
Ich bin begeistert von diesem Klettergurt! Die Verarbeitung ist erstklassig, mit robusten Materialien, sowie hochwertigen Nähten und auch nach mittlerweile über einem Jahr sind noch keine Verschleißerscheinungen erkennbar. Der Gurt lässt sich dank der gut Verstellmöglichkeiten schnell und einfach anpassen, sodass er bequem sitzt, ohne einzuschneiden oder zu verrutschen.
Besonders positiv finde ich die breiten Beinschlaufen, sowie Hüftgurt – auch bei längeren Touren bleibt der Tragekomfort erhalten. Zudem ist die Konstruktion schön leicht, was bei langen Klettertagen schon auch ein Pluspunkt ist.
Die Platzierung und Größe der Gear-Loops sind superpraktisch, und es gibt genug Platz für Karabiner, Sicherungsgeräte und Co., ohne dass es unübersichtlich wird. Egal ob am Fels oder im Eis, der Gurt hat in jeder Situation überzeugt.
Für Anfänger genauso geeignet wie für erfahrene Kletterer – ich kann diesen Gurt uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!

No nice, I bought it twice!

I bought the women’s version of this harness a few years ago and found it to be the most comfortable harness I have owned in the last 30 years. I recently replaced my old worn out one with the men’s version (just as comfy) which fits me better because it has a shorter rise. It is comfortable for hanging belays (it doesn’t dig in and the fabric doesn’t get sweaty) and I love that the gear loops are scooped slightly forwards. It is light and packs up small, but unlike other lightweight gear, had exceptional durability. My only complaint is that this year’s colour wasn’t as nice as my old blue one.

This harness is excellent—versatile, lightweight, and compact, making it a great addition to any climbing pack. I’ve used it across a range of activities, including sport climbing, trad, multi-pitch, and alpine routes, and it performed well overall. It's comfortable for short periods of hanging, though I found it less so during extended or awkward belays.
As someone who’s 6'2" with a very small waist and torso, I opted for an XS. While it fit snugly when cinched fully, it could feel uncomfortable when carrying a lot of gear, particularly during long belays on sunny days with minimal or no clothing layers. However, this is a niche issue that likely won’t affect most users. In most instances, this harness is a solid and reliable choice.

I really like this harness... like alot
Huge gear loops, super comfortable even on longer hanging belays, and even the bag it came in is rad!
I've used a number of different harnesses over the years and this one is somehow just more comfortable than the rest. Expensive forsure but I'd argue it's actually worth the cost if you spend lots of time hanging about.

Bought these for the awesome large gear loops that slant down to arrange your gear. Gear loops didn't disappoint, but the harness chafes and squeezes the sensitive bits more than any other harness, regardless of how legs are adjusted.

Comfortable enough for hanging belays (although I would not want to be hanging for for than an hour). Gear loops and solid. I use for winter/ice, summer alpine climbing, and SAR. 10/10 recommend.

Best harness without the frill and changes

This is still the harness to beat. While not much has changed from the debut of this harness... Why change greatness. This has been my go-to harness for sport climbing, ice climbing, trad and the occasional indoor gym session. This year marks a turning point in turns of being able to actually find these harnesses in store as I felt the past years were hard to source the AR's anywhere.

Excellent Winter Harness

I primarily use this harness for ice/mixed climbing. It's easily one of the most comfortable harnesses I've used for this purpose. The design of the waist belt is extremely comfortable, and it's low-bulk nature means it fits well in the pack. The gear loops are large enough to fit a full rack of cams/draws/hooks/pins/etc. needed for complex winter adventures.
It comes with 4 slots for ice clippers, but I find the forward ones too far forward, and thus use the back two with 2 other ice clippers over the front gear loop for routes that require a lot of screws.
Overall this (and its previous iterations) has been my go-to harness for the last 10+ years, and will continue to be so going forward.

Excellent harness for Trad and Alpine adventures. Harness is extremely comfortable, lightweight, and packs very small. The gear loops are properly sized and can handle some abuse (unlike other brands that sheath their gear loops in soft material).
