Question 1

Is this suitable for skiing?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the Atom SL Hoody can absolutely be used for skiing, but it works best as a light midlayer under a shell, especially on warmer days or when you’re moving a lot. It adds a touch of breathable insulation without feeling bulky, so it’s great for spring conditions or high‑output laps. For colder days, you may want a warmer midlayer, but as a lightweight option, the Atom SL performs really well under a proper ski shell.

Question 3

Question 4

Hi purchased your Atom lightweight hoody womens last year. I’ll be visiting Iceland this July Do you think it will be sufficient as a stand alone piece with layers for Icelands unpredictable weather?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello Marie, the Atom Lightweight Hoody is a great midlayer; light, packable, and warm for its weight. For Iceland in July, it could work well as part of a layering system. Weather there can be cool, windy, and wet even in summer, so we’d recommend pairing it with a moisture-wicking base layer and bringing a waterproof shell to stay dry and protected from the wind. While the Atom offers some weather resistance, it’s not fully waterproof, so having a shell on hand will help you stay comfortable in Iceland’s unpredictable conditions. Enjoy your trip!

Question 5

Veste Atom SL:
Largeur poitrine : 98,5 cm
Largeur taille : 88,0 cm
Longueur au dos : 64,0 cm

Veste Atom:
Largeur poitrine : 103,3 cm
Largeur taille : 106,6 cm
Longueur au dos : 66,0 cm

Question 6

Does this provide SPF protection?

River · Accepted Answer

Hello there, the Atom SL Hoody is not UPF rated, which means it hasn't been officially tested for sun protection. While it may offer some basic coverage due to the fabric density, we can’t guarantee a specific level of SPF or UV protection. If sun protection is a key priority for you, we’d be happy to recommend other pieces in our line that are UPF rated.

Question 7

Can it be used as a wind shell? Is it wind resistent?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Christy, thanks for reaching out. The Atom SL Hoody offers good wind resistance and can help keep you warm on windy days. While it’s designed primarily as a lightweight, synthetic‑insulated mid‑layer, it also works well on its own as a standalone piece. We hope this helps!

Question 8

Would this jacket work for all 4 seasons for layering? Or more suitable as a standalone in Spring/Summer?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hello, thanks for your question! The Atom SL Hoody is a lightweight, versatile piece that can be worn year-round, depending on climate, activity, and personal comfort. It works well as a standalone in mild weather or as a mid-layer in cooler conditions. While not built for heavy rain, it offers light wind and moisture resistance and pairs well with a shell for added protection. Its breathable design makes it ideal for a range of activities and easy to adapt across seasons. We hope this helps!

Question 9

What are the key differences between the new Atom SL and the previous Atom LT Hoody?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi there — great question! The new Atom SL Hoody is the updated version of what was previously called the Atom Lightweight Hoody. It features several key improvements, including recycled Fortius™ Air 20 fabric, stretch synthetic insulation, and an FC0 DWR finish for a lower environmental impact. The addition of Octa® Fleece side panels enhances breathability and reduces micro-shedding, while the StormHood™ is now lined and no longer stowable. The Bird logo is also now embroidered for added durability. Sizing has been slightly adjusted — for example, in size Small, the Atom LT Hoody measured 100.5 cm in the chest, 89 cm at the waist, and 103.5 cm at the hem. In comparison, the updated Atom SL Hoody in size Small measures 98.5 cm in the chest, 88 cm at the waist, and 100.5 cm at the hem. We hope this helps!
