Really good layer for rock climbing in the cooler temps...it's light, very comfy, not restricting, warm around the neck with the hood and long enough to not slip out under your harness when climbing

Merino blend is very comfortable on the skin, it makes a lot if difference on cold mornings compared to a merino t-shirt, especially when using a three layers approach (with Atom and Gamma MX): i found i can tolerate 20F without a bliss.Let's see if the seams will last, but i'm rater quite happy with it!

The Ionia Merino Wool Hoody has quickly become a favorite. The merino wool feels incredibly soft and natural against the skin—light yet cozy, with a warmth that adapts perfectly to cooler days. It’s my go-to for casual summer evenings, trail running, and hiking when I need something breathable that also provides protection from the sun. Not only is it perfect for casual outings, but it’s also suitable for a variety of activities. I opted for a size up from my usual, even though it’s true to size, to give it a looser fit, which improves breathability. I also love taking it on flights, as it provides the right warmth and comfort I need during travel. The thinness and temperature regulation of the material make it ideal for different conditions. While it’s fantastic for many uses, I noticed some wear from my backpack after just a few hikes, which I’ve never experienced with polyester or cotton blends. Now, I avoid it for hikes with a pack to preserve the fabric’s integrity. Even with this precaution, it’s a standout piece that I love wearing, and I even got the crew neck version because I appreciate the material, cut, and style so much. The hood provides excellent additional protection for my neck and head, and on cooler hikes, it makes an excellent base layer. Despite some limitations, it’s definitely one of my favorite Arc’teryx products.

This is my go to hiking shirt, especially on days where it's a little cooler. The trim fit helps wick moisture away and the wool blend is so comfy next to the skin. I have worn this shirt now for hundreds of miles on trail and have no signs of wear in the shoulders or back. It has really impressed me how well it's held up. I've been hesitant to use it rock climbing, as I am not sure if it would hold up with abrasion on the rock. Definitely pricer for a hiking shirt, but has held up really well and would say it was worth investing in. Overall I am very happy with this product and could see myself picking up another once this one gets too many pin hole burns and abuse, especially if they ever make one that comes in Bordeaux.

I am a business traveler and am on planes alot. I Love the wool for heat management/ moisture. I also use the hood as it keeps my neck warm with the air blasting on it. The hood is also long enough that I can pull it down to block out my face to make sleeping easier. I have four of these and I have been using them all year

I bought this hoodie because of the majestic, retro-purple. I was told it wouldn't shrink (being wool)...it shrank. I can still wear it but only as a base layer with something else over it. I thought it would be thin enough to wear all year. Also the logo is invisible in this colorway.

Outstanding light base or mid layer. Sometimes you find a piece of clothing that excels in versatility, durability and function. The Iona hoody is such a product. Ski touring, climbing or biking it checks all the boxes. As a bonus the merino material is excellent at odor management. Well done Arc’teryx.

This quickly became my go to piece of kit. I have been using this for a base layer winter camping and as a stand alone on chilly trail runs. The hood sits nicely when not in use but has a great fit for a base layer, close enough to keep the heat in but not to tight to be restrictive. The merino wool stays warm when damp from sweat or the elements. I find myself wondering what I was doing before this layer.

Fit and cut are beautiful -- maybe a bit more form fitting than is 100% practical if you need to get a baselayer under it, but perfect for California spring/summer backpacking, and looks great as casual wear. It's very soft, very stink-resistant, and while this probably isn't the top concern for a lot of backpacking users, the color (I bought it in green) is rich and really beautiful. My ideal version of this garment would have a bit more room in the hood: keep the high neck, but the tighter, less monk's-cowl look around the head, while more fashionable (and not so tight that it precludes wearing a cap) does leave more of my cheeks exposed to the sun. I'd gladly accept a bit of unfashionable floppiness around the sides for better sunburn protection. The lack of thumb loops is a bit of a downside for me as well, but to be fair I knew that going in, and there are probably many users for whom it doesn't matter anyway. On balance I'm very satisfied with the quality and fit, and what complaints I do have are more idiosyncratic preferences than objective problems with the quality of the garment. I would buy this one again, even knowing about those minor issues.

This is one of the most comfortable wool shirts I've ever had! It's soft and lightweight, it's warm enough for activity in shoulder seasons or cool mornings/evenings in summer. Could even be a baselayer for colder weather. Works decent for travel too. So comfortable I also wear it all the time around the house and for casual wear in regular life. It's a great option for hiking in cooler, shoulder season weather as it's warmer but not too warm. It does have more of a tighter, athletic fit, mostly in the arms so just keep that in mind depending on what you want to use it for. So incredibly soft and comfortable though that I bought a second within a couple months of owning my first and I now have 3 of these things. Absolutely love them!

Material is comfy, fits tight with stretch, warm yet breaths well. Please Arc don’t get rid of this design any time soon!!

Bought it two months ago already, and every day I am thinking how this piece is good. Light, warm, fashion design, great quality. Fits small, but I would not rec to size up/oversize, this is the way it should be. I've got the S, perfect for me as I am 1.70cm/94 cm chest, 65 Kg. The hoody is simply great!

I've been really impressed with my Merino wool hoodie. It's a solid piece of clothing with no downsides that I can find. The fit is great, and it's incredibly comfortable to wear. What stands out the most is its odor-resistance, even after several wears & keeping me warm even when it's wet. I use it as a base layer or mid layer over a merino wool tee. An absolute must for multi day treks

Over the last few weeks this has become my new favourite piece of clothing. Old school Arc’teryx quality to detail and thoughtful design towards a piece of outdoor apparel. I’ve been worried lately to see the trend towards more street style cuts and styles from my favourite brand; this shirt restores my faith that Arc’teryx remains an outfitter to those who spend most of their time in the mountains. I wish the forage colour was available, I’d grab that in a heartbeat! Love the earthy colours better than the others.

Great hoody that in warmer weather I used as sun protection and wasn’t too hot. In colder weather it served as a nice mid layer. I used this on a hike of mt Fuji where it was humid and hot on the bottom and cold at the top. One feature I really appreciate is that the hood isn’t loose, and hugs your head, so it doesn’t fall down if you start moving faster or encounter wind.

Was looking for a long sleeve hoody to protect me from sun and colder hiking temps and found the greatest one in the Alana merino one.

Very happy to see some natural wool options from Arcteryx. This is an excellent hoody. Comfortable, great fit. It seems to be excellent for active fall weather so far. I'm hoping it can be a year round peice. It should he a great layer for winter. And good sun protection for summer. Very functional hood with good coverage.

I wear this hiking, walking, skiing and as a base layer. The feel and look is great. I’m 6’3” 190lbs and the medium is perfect.

Bought this at the beginning of summer and it’s my go to for most weathers, it can be worn as a lightweight top layer or as part of multiple layers for cooler temps, also the hood keeps the sun off you. Highly recommended!

This top is perfect. The material was my priority as I live in the PNW, and merino makes life warmer and dry. This top fits true to size. I buy large in most tops with other Mfg’s and the Large with ARCTERYX was perfect size. Has a little stretch, but fits slim. The neck on the hood has enough length to pull up onto face easy and provides good coverage. I could live in this garment. It’s my go to! My favorite

First impression: silk on your skin. The internal construction is perfect, no frictions on the skin. Super warm. Design: casual and for sport. Fit: very slim, however I would not recommend to oversize. Got both the Iona versions, but I love the hoody.

Bought this to use as a sun hoody. I prefer wool over synthetic and after using Icebreaker Oasis 200s all the time this will be my new baselayer of choice. I wear a Large in both tops and this one is a tiny bit looser but that’s preferable as a sun hoody anyway. Dries really fast, soft feel and gave me full protection from the sun and bugs while hiking and camping in Scotland.
