PHOTOGRAPHER

That she sold her camera twice to make rent is not an indication of Tara’s wavering love for photography – that has been rock-solid since she first grabbed her mom’s old Pentax as a kid. An aversion to debt, after watching her parents go bankrupt twice, has fuelled Kerzhner’s intense work ethic and scrappy grit. (Plus, that one time, a half-sleeve tattoo just seemed a more important investment.) Exhilarated by shooting street photography, fashion, live shows, and animals, climbing just happens to be the overlap of her two greatest passions. Born and raised in Bend, Oregon, Smith Rock is her heart’s home, even though she’s now graduated from living in a truck to an apartment in Boulder, Colorado and, as one of climbing’s most sought-after storytellers, no longer worries about pawning her gear.
