Used for SAR missions and in austere alpine settings, this jacket is like a piece of armor. Its robust material and helmet compatible hood couples nicely with a no frills solid design allowing decent packability. The two large chest pockets are clutch when it comes to storing important pieces of kit when the winds are whipping and the horizontal storm surge is hitting you like a wall of 300lb Kiwi rugby players. Ever feel like you want to just get into a tent when the conditions seem too dire? You don't have to with this shell, you can be wearing your tent, isolating you from the elements in a way that makes you feel like your just gripping your blankie when you were a young child, warm, relaxed and safe! The features you need without fluff: chest pockets are huge and easy to access, no annoying arm pocket, hood adjustment is simple and keeps pulls out of the way, cuffs are simple and easy over or under glove cuffs. 99% of the way to a perfect jacket.

Just perfect!

I was looking for a shell to replace my 12-year-old BetaAR and after researching several manufacturers the Alpine Guide jacket fit the bill. It is durable, incredibly lightweight, and has just the minimum needed for a fully functional adventure jacket. The two pockets have a slightly smaller opening than the BetaAR but still have a lot of capacity. The hood is much better and fits comfortably over my ski and climbing helmets and the little pocket inside fits my wallet and keys. I am 5'10, 175, reasonably athletic with broader shoulders and bought a size large which fits perfectly over my layers. I am a Search and Rescue pilot and I think the best part is the bright orange slash on the hood - everyone who truly goes into the backcountry should consider visibility over style.

Good first impression....but didn't last.

Initially the coat was great, but it only lasted two seasons before running into issues. Zipper teeth broke and wear under one of the arm pits caused a hole. (I don't wear a pack with this jacket). Arc'teryx is offering to replace the zipper. Bummer is that its mid-season which means I need to buy a replacement jacket. Can't have a zipper fail out in the cold, and can't wait two months to get the jacket back. Their answer for the wear is to replace the panel with 50 denier Gore-Tex (specs say the jacket is N80d 80 Denier) and it will cost me $212. Oh yeah, they only have black fabric too. I'm pleading with Customer Service to stand behind their Pro level product and will update the review if there is a positive outcome.

Great Jacket, very versatile and weather proof!

I have used this jacket for 3 seasons both as an alpine jacket and a skiing shell. The material is lightweight and very weatherproof. It has decent breathability and great pockets. It does tend to fit a bit narrow so I sized up and it was somewhat roomy.

Sie bietet eine hervorragende Kombination aus Atmungsaktivität und erstklassiger Wasserdichtigkeit, was sie ideal für anspruchsvolle Outdoor-Aktivitäten macht. Besonders praktisch sind die gut angeordneten Taschen, die auch mit einem Klettergurt problemlos zugänglich bleiben.
Ein kleiner Verbesserungspunkt ist der Bund an den Ärmeln, der bei dicken Handschuhen etwas eng sein kann und das An- und Ausziehen erschwert. Zusätzlich wäre es wünschenswert, auf beiden Seiten eine innenliegende Tasche zu haben, um noch mehr Stauraum für wichtige Gegenstände zu bieten.
