I am currently 6 ft (183cm), 179lbs (81.19kg). The Macai jacket (size: M) fits correctly in all aspects on me. The length of the sleeves are a bit long but I am totally okay with that.
On Dec 25th, 2019 , I went to Sasquatch mountain resort for snowboarding. The weather was super great, sunny, light wind and the snow is soft and decent (Please refer to the third picture). I wore a T-shirt, leggings, Proton lt hoody, Alpha COMP Pants and Macail Jacket. Nothing extreme and special happened, the Macai jacket was as great as other ski jackets. Pronton lt hoody stole the spotlight on that day, the hoody kept me warm, and I did not sweat when I rode down the hill. I was so impressed by the mid layer that I forgot to appreciate the Macai jacket.
On Jan 5th, 2020, I went to Sasquatch mountain resort for snowboarding again. This time the weather was horrible, super foggy at the top, crazy gusty, snowy and visibility was terrible (Please refer to picture 1 and 2). The resort officially shut down all lift chairs due to extreme winds. (BTW the resort gave us one-time use half day lift tickets as compensation) Before it closed down, we went up the mountaintop and rode down the slopes a couple times. I wore the same Arc'teryx beast mode outfit as Dec 25, 2019. The wind was pushing me hard at higher altitudes, but I was warm and did not feel any wind penetrated my jacket. At lower elevation, it rained. Windproof and waterproof abilities of my Macai Jacket were off the charts! (Please refer to the last picture)
From my perspective, Macai jacket is a very functional, practical, truly waterproof and windproof Jacket. The internal dump pocket is perfect for my gloves, toque, and balaclava. The left sleeve pocket is great for my oval membership card, Cypress Mt's ski pass and Compass card. The pit zips use two-way zippers and have powder guard vents to prevent snow entry. I really appreciate all the little details.

Best Warm Jacket Money Can Buy

I have been an Arc'teryx fan for over a decade now. As such, I own many, many Arc'teryx ski, hiking and urban pieces. I recently bought the Macai jacket and Sabre pants both in Yukon color. I also bought the new Knicker pants. I must tell you that the Macai jacket is awesome! It is the best Arc'teryx jacket I own. It kept me warm through the frigid days in Breckenridge, Colorado. I sometimes had to open the zip vents while working hard off the Imperial lift and also off the T-Bar. Two days ago I hit knee-deep powder in a trail called Forget Me Not and the jacket behaved nicely. It is very apparent that the core is insulated 750 fill down which kept me warm during the lift ride. Synthetic insulation in key areas is also a plus.
The construction, stitching, materials and design are absolutely second to none! Make no mistake about that.
The issue here is not whether the jacket is excellent, which it is. The issue here is whether it is worth nearly $1,000. The case in point is that if you already own a Gore-Tex piece like the Sabre jacket and down mid-layer jacket like the Cerium, you would be better off wearing those than spending nearly $1,000 in a new jacket. If you only own one or two pieces form Arc'teryx, then I highly recommend you get the Macai jacket. Please be advised that the Macai Jacket is not for back country skiing as it is way too warm for that. The Macai jacket is designed to be worn in a lift-serviced ski area.
As to the knicker pants, they are not very warm and therefore, I could not recommend spending $200 for this bottom long underwear. You are better off buying a nice thick fleece bottom underwear and your thighs will be warmer.

GET this jacket!

If you're on the fence about getting this jacket, climb down off there and pull the trigger.
This is a beautifully designed jacket with everything you need to tackle the coldest, wettest winters.
Pair with just a simple fleece (I use the Covert 1/2 Zip) and you'll never be cold again. Cant recommend this jacket enough, my only wish was I got one sooner.
I own multiple Arcteryx items.. Beta SL, Tantalaus, Atom LT, Beta AR, Rush LT Pants, Lithic gloves, and a couple fleece and hoodies. My new favorite is the Macai!
I am 5'10", 165lbs, and got the small in black (thought about Yukon or Neptune but for a jacket that will last me a lifetime I figured play it safe and get black). The fit was good on the medium, but a bit baggy and loose in the arms. It starts to look sloppy when you start sizing up. Im really glad I didn't size up for this jacket, because I doubt I'll ever end up needing to layer it. If they had a size in between S & M that would be unbelievable, but I don't know any other companies that do this so I guess it is what it is! Still cant complain about any part of this jacket.

I have had great experience with brand and jacket generally fits well. But for a fully priced product, it has two obvious flaws: the hood is bulky and awkward, and sleeves need an inner cuff lining. Returned because of sleeves.

Favourite Jacket- But isn't perfect

Love this jacket since I got it from its warmth and comfort to it's lightweight construction. It temperature regulates very well I have worn it at -30C and -5C and been comfortable in both situations. I run warm as well but it's breathability and core loft in the pits and back help me not sweat too much. I am 6'3 200 lbs and broad shouldered and the L fits me perfect, though the arms are a tad long but that helps with mobility for sure.
Only complaints are the main pockets are rather small to store ski gloves or whatever inside comfortably. Secondly, there is no interneal cuff on the sleeve which means when skiing you have to often re wrap the velcro cuff around your wrist to keep the glove in the sleeve.
Anyhow, sleek, warm, waterproof, cozy and would recommend to anyone who wants a premium ski jacket or high snowy/cold weather resident.

Cette veste est très confortable et pratique et vous garde au chaud et au sec. Elle a aussi un capuchon qui cache mon casque si nécessaire et assez d'espace de rangement pour un forfait de ski, gants etc.J'utilise cette veste aussi pour des promenades si 'il fait froid.Et elle est assez belle pour faire les boutiques dans les quartiers chic de Bruxelles ou Anvers.

Very Nice Jacket

Incredibly nice insulated hard shell, great look and fit, with some functional compromises. I recommend this jacket for its quality, performance, appearance and design, but within a somewhat narrow use high-end ski-lodge application. For chair to slope functionality this coat is premiere and looks great. But for that 80 mile snow-mobile round trip or 5 degree F back-country skiing, lack of cargo capacity and minimal layering cut may take this garment too far from intended use and design. I bought a Large at 6’1” and 195 lbs. If there were a size between L and XL that would be me, but the L is perfect as long as I don’t try to layer. With a mid-weight base performance piece and flannel I’m done. I’d like to leave the flannel and replace with a light down layer but too tight. An XL swallows me though.

Purchased as an alternative to those down jackets that my wife said looks like a Michelin man. The idea was that rather than extensive layering you would only need one jacket when not so cold i.e. Australia and simply add one base layer when colder i.e. Canada. In addition could be used at a pinch as an alternative to those Canada Goose jackets, sort of wear around town. Has lived up to all expectations including a ski jacket, an excellent multipurpose all rounder. Cheers

Amazing All-Mountain Jacket

This jacket is wonderfully warm and keeps the user dry and comfortable throughout a range of winter temperatures. I have used this jacket both in resort and on short touring expeditions. My only gripes with it from my experience are it's weight for touring and packability, and it's mediocre ventilation, but this is to be expected with this insulated of a winter jacket.
The jacket is perfect for an outdoor winter sport enthusiast who wants a single item solution to winter exposure. This jacket doesn't have the versatility of a multi-layer system, but is blended perfectly and has seamless integration between down (with targeted synthetic) insulation and weatherproof shell.
This jacket is quite warm, contrary to the thoughts of some other reviewers of this jacket. It ends up being much warmer than if the layers were seperated, as lots of thought was put into the blending of layers to retain warmth better. This does have quite efficient pit zips with a mesh layer to prevent powder from blowing in, and has kept me comfortable from around 5°F to around 35°F.
TLDR: If you want one upper garment that will keep you warm, protected from weather, and has savvy features, this is the best jacket on the market.

Nach lenger, reiflicher Überlegung habe ich mich im vergangnene Winter zum Kauf entschieden. Bei -30 Grad C in Zermatt wurde mir klar, das die Entscheidung richtig war und dass die Jacke alles kann was sie verspricht.

There will be people that say it’s to much money but when it is 20 degrees out side and the wind is 30 miles an hour, let’s just say money is not a problem. This is the warmest coat made so far. I have not found one warmer. I work for the government and am outside all day and am very warm. Exceptional also you must ware all the base layers with the coat. Arcteyx base layers are just as good.

Three winters' use of this jacket has seen it take hikes in -30 to -40 degree freezes with high winds on a daily basis.
Often tested with just a light sweater base layer, this this absolutely eliminates wind chill. The practical hood and neck design of the coat keeps the most important part of the body in the cold - neck and head - very warm.
Performance is incredible. Weight likewise. Cinches, whistles, and toggles excellent.
Exceeded expectations in all considerations. Certified performance at temps so cold the zipper toggle shattered.

Warmest Jacket I've Ever Owned!

I own about ten Arcteryx jackets, this is by far the warmest jacket for extreme cold weather. I live in Michigan and have warn this in -20 wind chill weather and still felt warm. If you need a lightweight, waterproof, extremely warm jacket with style look no future. I'm 5'8" and 150 lbs and the small is a perfect fit. Chest pocket dose fit the larger iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phones.

Great Jacket

Finally after trying so many different kinds including Canada Goose I settled my search with the Arcteryx Macai jacket. I am 5'11 and 205lbs and large fits me perfectly with room for layering. I havent got a chance yet to wear it in very cold temperatures of Chicago but I felt really nice wearing it. Its not bulky for the warmth it provides.

I’ve always loved Arc’teryx products and I do have a lot of them. Never had a problem with any.
But I was so disappointed with my Macai jacket when I found that it was leaking goose down(I bought it like days ago so not even that much used). Every time I take off the jacket there are a few small pieces of goose down on my base layer.
Well it’s a 1100$ Jacket, at least I paid the money to trust Arc’teryx to make a product that does not leak insulation materials.

It is considered normal for down garments to lose some down and feathers throughout their lifetime. Down loss generally occurs when the sharp needle-like quill of a feather pierces through the fabric or makes its way into an existing needle hole. Losses tend to occur more often on a brand new garment and should become less frequent after some use.

Worth the money

I’m 6-1 220 athletic build and got a large. The fit is perfect. I can layer my atom AR, base layer and still fits great. Plenty of room in my shoulders. I don’t see needing any other layers for this jacket. Most of the time I’ll just be wearing it with a base layer.
It’s quite, warm, and well built. It has a high quality zipper unlike my atom ar and atom lt which drives me crazy.

The best of the best!

I was skiing at Whistler last season on a clear, windy and very cold day.
There was a significant line up in the morning that all but disappeared by 11:00AM because the conditions were so formidable.
The day was more than tolerable because I was comfortably warm.
The Macai jacket is my go to for west coast winters as I don't need multiple layers to be comfortable.
This jacket is without question the best of the best!

Awesome jacket, maybe too warm

I love this jacket in every way. At 5'10" my height would probably be a medium, but I'm somewhat over weight so i got a large and it fits great. These jackets have some room in case you have multiple layers or a few extra pounds.

Overall, this is a very good resort jacket. It is very warm and perfect for resort riding where it will protect you from any conditions you might encounter while keeping you toasty warm and dry. It eliminates the need for any real mid layer in anything but the coldest conditions. It also has great classic ski jacket style. I tried on various different insulated ski jackets and they don't come close to the style of the macai.
It does have a couple issues. The pockets are ridiculous. The hand pockets are small but adequate. However the chest pocket is unusable and the sleeve pocket is difficult to unzip and use for anything other than a ski pass. I can deal with this issue. My real concern with this jacket is it is delicate. Very delicate. The face fabric will rip easily and the inner face fabric will rip if you breath on it wrong. The down on the inside easily pokes through. I have multiple patched on mine after just one season of moderate use. I like it but for 950 bucks it should be a little tougher.

I have used this jacket now in second season. We usually go to Alpes. When very cold - we had minus 17 - it is superbly warm. However, during strong cold winds the wind gets through front and vent zippers. The front could easily be covered with an extra layer to be buttoned over zipper (suggestion alert). The vent zips are a lesser problem as arms can cover when in lift for example.
In moderately cold weather its almost too warm though and the vents come in handy.
I am 183cm and bought a large which fits snug but the arms are just long enough and an extra centimeter or two would be great.
Overall i like the jacket. It feels great and it has a quality to it in terms of material, design and aesthetics.
