Using this jacket as an daily in the city and also for adventures in the mountains. The breathability is okay, in my opinion a little too low but waterproofness is a 10/10. If you bought the jacket in the right size the fitting and mobility is great! All in all I’m super happy with this piece!

I bought this Alpha SV for skiing, even though I knew it was designed for climbing and harness use. I’ll admit, I was swayed by the color. I used to wear a size small, but opted for a medium in this jacket for a bit more room and a slightly longer fit. With my longer arms, the extra length in the sleeves hasn’t been an issue. I’ve gotten used to the “climber” style pockets, though having one right above my beacon does make my chest feel pretty packed with gear. The super thick fabric is a bit "crunchy" but it doesn't bother me if it means I'm protected and dry.

Enttäuschende Haltbarkeit trotz vielversprechendem Start Ich habe mir die Arcteryx Alpha SV mit großen Erwartungen gekauft. Optisch ist sie ohne Frage eine tolle Jacke, das Design ist schlicht und funktional, und sie fühlt sich auf den ersten Blick sehr wertig an. Auch die Wasserdichtigkeit ist ausgesprochen gut. Doch nach drei Monaten intensiver Nutzung auf meiner Weltreise bin ich ehrlich gesagt enttäuscht. Ich habe lange auf diese Jacke gespart, weil mir Qualität, Zuverlässigkeit und vor allem Langlebigkeit extrem wichtig sind – besonders auf Reisen, wo ich mich auf meine Ausrüstung verlassen muss. Die Alpha SV begleitete mich von eisigen -20 Grad im Schneesturm in den Bergen, Regen, bis hin zu wärmeren, windigen und sonnigen Tagen. Ich nutze sie also flexibel, aber genau das sollte sie ja eigentlich aushalten. Nach etwa zwei Monaten musste ich jedoch feststellen, dass sich eine Naht an einer Tasche gelöst hat und es droht der Kleber sich langsam zu lösen. Wenig später riss dann auch noch ein Gummiband an der Kapuze direkt bei der ersten Nutzung nach zwei Monaten, was mich wirklich gewundert hat. Abnutzung ist natürlich bei so einer Belastung völlig normal, aber dass solche Mängel so schnell auftreten, hätte ich nicht erwartet – vor allem nicht bei diesem Preis. Ich bin gespannt, ob sich am Ende meiner Reise herausstellt, dass ich nicht lieber eine andere, möglicherweise günstigere und robustere und hochwertigere Marke hätte wählen sollen. Eine Alternative habe ich jetzt nicht für meine Reise. Noch habe ich Hoffnung, dass die Jacke durchhält, aber mein Vertrauen in ihre Haltbarkeit hat bereits einen deutlichen Dämpfer bekommen.

I'm 6-1 and 195 pounds using the XL size. It's just a bit tight in the snow with two layers underneath, especially if you put gloves in the front zip pockets. But the XXL is too baggy. LOVE IT - Solid shell, good weight for warmth, wind proof, water proof, maneuverability. HATE IT - No hand pockets!!! What a colassol mistake!!! The volume of pockets is waaaaay too small/limited. You'll need to always have a backpack for anything you need to carry. Hand pockets (like on Beta shell) would have solved everything. Their argument is that the pack strap covers hand pockets, but that just means don't use them when you have a pack on. When you don't have a pack, like skiing, boating, day hiking, going to work, hand pockets are a must!!! Overall, I would NOT buy again or recommend to a friend. I'm pretty disappointed that I'll be stuck with it for 10+ years.

Alpha SV was Purchased in Feb 2024. Used for a total 120 hours of resort skiing; delamination appears around the wrist area. The product has been regularly washed by Arcteryx store. I brought the jacket back to the store for a warranty claim and was told these delamination do not affect the performance of the jacket. I'm totally dissatisfied with made of the jacket that was priced over $1,000 and Arcteryx's response. I recommend shopping elsewhere. I would give a 0/5 Stars, not 1 of 5.

This Jacket is my daily driver, and it works for everything, like seriously everything from hiking to fishing to skiing on the mountain the Alpha SV delivers. It’s seriously tough from rocky hiking to my ski’s on my shoulders it’s still trucking along and best part I’m always bone dry. I can’t recommend the Alpha SV enough !!

So far so good. Bought this shell for downhill skiing and backpacking. It has performed quite well to this date. Like all the features and especially the zip interior pocket and the pocket on the left sleeve that holds my ski pass.

Got my first shell jacket ever, and chose the Alpha SV. It is amazing! I was afraid to cold. Tested now in 3800 meters in minus 14C and wind with snow. Have a fleece and a Arcteryx thin vest. Works fine (Alpine skiing). Offer was 20% in red.

Love this shell for climbing. I mostly used my beta lt for climbing but this feels a lot more sturdy and the cut is way better for a harness. I use it for skiing sometimes as well. Great all around shell for the harshest conditions.

Really love it, very stylish, a must-have for every outdoor enthusiast.

This is my fourth alpha sv, once I also have many other brands of top hardshell jacket, after a long time of outdoor harsh environment, now I will only choose alpha sv, and recommend to friends around You can rest assured of its performance in any harsh environment, and I've slipped on a mountain in Nepal, but there's barely a hint of wear on the alpha sv

Purchased my Alpha SV in 2017, and have used it as my ski shell (downhill and A/T) every season since. Great in everything from cold/crisp mornings in Summit County Colorado to warm rainy days on Mount Shasta. Plenty of pockets, and zip vents work well to help moderate temps. Still beads water, and only thinking of replacing it due to a nasty grease stain I picked up on a chairlift. I'm 5'10" and 150lbs - medium fits perfectly.

I purchased the alpha SV in 2020.. I use it exclusively for backcountry skiing. Within a couple of years it started to delaminate in places. I held onto it for a couple more years as I don’t like things being wasted, but by 2024 it was no longer at all waterproof. I would consider the garment lightly used considering that it’s only been used in a clean environment And only for one activity. I use lighter jackets In summer. Also I don’t sweat in it, as I manage my temperature carefully in the Yukon winters. I washed the jacket as per instructions. When I returned it I was told that I had not washed it often enough and was told they would neither fix nor replace it. I am disappointed to see that Arcteryx no longer stands behind its products.

Where this working outdoors, playing golf and hiking amazing product and I am so pleased with its quality and performance

I’ve had both the large and extra large in previous iterations of these jackets. I had 2013 and 2016 and a 2019 of both large and extra large I think that the new cut of the extra large is a little too roomy and where I going on an expedition camping on mountains, needing room Thousand down filled insulation, it would be good, but I don’t need that and I’m going to trade it for a large the new one so if you’re used to wearing large and wanted to size up the new cuts of the jackets, I believe you could remain at a large and still have room for enough stuff to warm you up I love the pockets of the alpha SV for a phone credit cards in the other pocket. Whatever the drawstring keeps the wind out I’m not risking life and limb. When I go out with this jacket nor do I wear a helmet, so I wish the hood was tighter. I’ve had these jackets and enjoy them. I’m used to facing Wind that is about 27 to 32 knots And I have to wear several layers of protection for my face and example balaclava neck gator, Marino hoodie with face covering that being said oh, and the temperatures are around 0 to 10 Fahrenheit That being said, I wouldn’t consider not having one of these jackets I’ve noticed that the bird has come out with a ski jacket that’s 100 denier and I plan to try it although I’m sorry that the pockets aren’t the same as the SV alpha Excellent rain protection mostly happy with it

Best shell on the market. I have had this jacket for 16 years. It has seen Alberta winters, storms on the North Atlantic, the mountains of Afghanistan, the Rockies during a blizzard and 1000 miles of rain on a cross country motorcycle trip. This jacket gets packed for every adventure. Layer this with the right combo and you are set for any conditions. I am 6’1, 200 lbs and wear a size Large. My label says made in Canada.

Alpha sv (dk stratus) Great jacket, fit is good and I love the size and adjustability of the hood, but there is one minor flaw for such a high end jacket. The dwr is far from “durable” it took one wear in light rain for places on the jacket to wet out and not “bead” water which is quite annoying as the jacket has only been worn less then a handful of times. Other than that you can’t go wrong with the alpha sv

I was a little dubious to start with because of how stiff and noisy the fabric felt, but that didn't matter at all as soon as I needed it! Was almost upset when the weather picked up and it wasn't required anymore. Purchased for walking/climbing, but think I'll end up using it instead of my Rush jacket when backcountry snowboarding in the Scottish highlands. Features are fantastic and pockets well placed.

It’s my go to for really bad winter weather days, especially skiing.

I absolutely LOVE this jacket. From the color scheme, to the abundance of zipper pockets, to the perfectly designed hood and overall exceptional insulated layer, this jacket has it all. I'm thoroughly impressed with the work Arc'Teryx has done to provide opportunities for people to have quality gear. Thank you Arc'Teryx!

An excellent hard shell, great breathability, durability and fit on PNW bushwhacks, and rainy days. Only complaint is that the cuffs are a bit wide, and the velcro could extend another couple of cm to allow more adjustability.
