Not sure an upgrade over Aerios

Little disappointed in recent Kopec GTX shoe purchase. I am a previous owner of Aerios GTX shoes which I wore for 2 years and loved and recently bought the Kopec for what I thought was an upgrade. I have 2 key issues with the Kopec.
Issues
1. Comfort
a. With the harder Vibram sole material (which I know is an upgrade over Aerios for rocks), the Kopec feels
like walking on a block of concrete with the cheaper insole in the Kopec. The softer Vibram sole of the Aerios
were fine with the lesser insole, but not with the Kopec’s harder sole.
b. I put my Brooks Ghost running shoe insoles in the Kopec and they felt like a completely different shoe and 100X more comfortable. Plan to invest in a different insole with these shoes.
c. Arcteryx - I would highly recommend upgrading the insole on the Kopec for future models
d. With the move to round laces, they are definitely more likely to come lose vs the flat running shoe style laces. One additional hole for the laces would help and or a speed lace option would be useful.
2. Finishing on top of shoe
a. There is a finishing issue on the top of the shoe left of the top hole for the laces. The end is not finished. I thought the issue was with my pair, but the actual pictures from the website show the unfished spot and other reviews with images also have noted the issue.
b. I included images of the unfished areas on both sides of the shoe and the actual image from your website to show the unfinished spot.
I like the look of the Kopec, the build quality seems good other than the finish issue at the top and the subpar insole. Has more of a feel of a tougher hiking boot.
Might be worth it to wait for the next version of this shoe in terms of fit and finish issues with this new internally designed model.

Extremely inconsistent fit and finish

I have a few pairs of Arc’teryx shoes and they all fit very well and are finished well. These fit horribly compared to multiple others, very narrow toe box compared to others even tho it’s described as a larger toe box. My right shoe is almost a full size smaller than the left and they’re both 10s. Shoes are poorly finished with glue all over the upper and cut fabric just left. Laces on these don’t stay tight as well. They look amazing with the grey and orange.

Disappointing // Not practical for trail running.

They’re not really practical as trail or running shoes. When your heel or midsole hits the ground the shoe’s upper area around the ankle pushes outward. No matter how tight or knotted you make the fat, frictionless laces, they’re getting loose from the second you take your first step.
There’s also no second eyelet on at the top to loop and lock the laces like most proper running shoes have.
Couldn’t recommend these shoes for any sort of serious activity due to both the laces coming undone and the lack of support this gives to your ankles.
I’m stuck with mine now and will just use them for stomping about as a winter trainer since they look good. Even then I’m still relacing them all the time.
Disappointed.

Good shoes with bad finishing

The shoes have just arrived, so I can’t comment on their durability or comfort for long walks yet. On first wear, although they’re on the stiffer side, they seem comfortable. I bought them to replace a pair of Konseal shoes I use for everyday wear, and while those are thinner and softer, I preferred to go back to a sturdier shoe.
They’re also very nice looking—gray and black, they’re discreet enough, even with the orange laces.
But they’re awfully finished. On the upper part of the shoe, near the last eyelet, where the interior lining meets the exterior fabric, there’s simply no finishing. It’s not finished off; they’ve just cut the fabric and that’s it. You can even clearly see the interior padding. Both shoes are the same, on both sides, so it doesn’t seem like a one-off flaw, it looks like they were designed this way.
This is certainly not the level of detail you would expect from a 180€ pair of sneakers.
I don’t get it. My Vertex and Konseals are really good shoes. My Sylans are flawless, just perfect. What happened? Is this the new quality standard from Arc'teryx?

Good, but not perfect.

Comfortable shoe, but fit on the small side of the chart. The toe protector is not very solid and separates from the fabric where the shoe bend. Not good quality in that aspect (I have two pairs and both did it). Good grip even on humid rocks/trail. Easy to clean.

Wider toe box with a very comfortable platform

This new shoe build gets better. With a wider toe box for wider front feet for toes to spread when walking/hiking, so it had the effect to lower the fatigue of the feet.
Additionally, the platform is so stable and supported with a bit of sock-like slide in feel so the shoe wraps pretty comfortably and able to wear them for long hours.

An Honest Review

I bought these to replace my Aerios, which were fantastic. I take a UK11.5 in the Aerios and the Norvan and I had to take a UK12 in these. The toe box is no wider than the Aerios. The upper is so stiff and rigid that it rubs the top of your foot on toe flexion, which causes heat spots. I can't imagine this improving with further break-in. The midsole is softer and I feel prone to damage on sharp rocks/roots etc. Also, the lug pattern feels very odd under foot, especially the heel. In short, these are a downgrade from the Aerios.

These are super lightweight stylish comfy shoe. Wide fit. Quick delivery and great customer service. Harsh not giving it 5 stars only because I didn’t like colour of the laces, which are easily changed for minimal cost.

Colourway is awesome; but this shoe is not for me as I have sunken arches and the wider toe box than the aerios made them feel less supportive. They look to be very well made and the addition of the abrasion strip on the inner side of the upper would have suited my usage to a tee

Fast, light, comfy, no break-in, sticky soles.

I needed a daily hiking/walking replacement for my Aerios FL, which I have worn daily for the last three years. Even though I wear a 10.5 wide, I am very fortunate that my feet fit into Arc shoes/boots. This was a perfect and comfy fit right out of the box. The Kopec is extremely light, the material is very durable, and the soles are super grippy. The wide toe box is a significant improvement over the Aerios FL, I feel that there is much more room for my toes. I wish the Kopec came with a heel pull tab (like the Vertex Alpine) so I can easily pull the shoe onto my foot. I'm glad the Kopec has molded toe caps and reinforcements in high-wear zones, as I anticipate my clumsy gait will have me tripping over logs and kicking rocks on the trail. Take a look at the photos to see a comparison between the Acrux AR, Acrux TR, Vertex Alpine, and Aerios FL. I'm very satisfied with the Kopec, it's a great upgrade from the Aerios FL. It's much lighter, waterproof, and has great style in the Black/Void/Dynasty laces combo. This will be my daily hiker/walker because I want the performance aspects and comfort. For technical approaches, I will put on the Vertex Alpine even though I could wear the Kopecs (but Vertex Alpine will perform much better with scree and talus approaches).

Very well built, light, shoes. I usually wear a 7.5 wide and I tried both the 7.5s and 8s. I have the norvans and they are practically indestructible but they are a little too narrow. These have a wide toe box but they are much lower volume than the norvans. So much so I could not wear them which is a shame because they seem very nice. Arc still needs a better option for those of us with wide feet. If you have a low volume foot these should work for you wonderfully.
