Just Great!

I've been using the jacket for about 3 weeks now. I've worn it on 7 ski tours and a few light climbs so far.
The quality and workmanship are very good! The jacket is comfortable to wear! How well the jacket will hold up over the years remains to be seen, but I hope it will give me years of enjoyment!
It's my 4th hardshell jacket so far and I have to say the weight/performance ratio is unbeatable!
I took the jacket in size M because my last hardshell jacket was always a bit too short and tight for me (for example when climbing). The jacket therefore offers a lot of space to wear thick down underneath or to wear skins and/or gloves underneath to stow away the jacket. What was important to me personally is that I can move around in the jacket without any restrictions.

Over priced and not made in British Columbia as the original jacket did! The original jacket was made with love and positive workmanship! With a price tag for most to buy and a warranty that was to stand by any defects! $900 for a jacket that really only cost $100 to make Is a sad cry from those good old days of Number 5 ykk Zippers and workmanship that was made proudly in BC! Plus these new jackets don't even fit like those original ones did!

This jacket is a replacement for my sidewinder older ski jacket that failed the waterproof test. I had the jacket for 5 years and with 3 years I kept feeling wetness on my shoulders after a few hours working in the rain. I let that slide a few more years up till I was able to go to one of the stores in NYC and run a test. It failed and arcteryx gave me credit and I bought the best of the best. Mind you I’ve spent many years selling these jackets and other outdoor clothing companies gear so I know exactly how to treat these jacket to make them last. I’ll review this jacket again in 5 years of severe weather and I’ll let you know what’s up! So far it definitely runs a little tighter that the sidewinder. I was expecting more room on the XL so that I can wear it with a thick down jacket in severe cold weather.

Beat Shell Jacket on the Market

I am a 6’ 5” tall, 220 pound male wearing size XL. Fits perfectly.
I work outdoors for The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the majority of my day is spent outside in the elements. I’ve had this jacket for 6 years, and I always look forward to opportunities where the weather is going to be the harshest to put its capabilities to the test. The last two days the temperatures and wind have been the coldest in over a year. As I work on flooding our skating rinks, the protection this jacket has provided me makes it seem like the wind doesn’t exist. Layering a RHO Top and a work sweatshirt, I have been extremely comfortable. This outer shell blocks wind and rain like no other jacket I’ve ever owned, and it lets out moisture as I’m exerting lots of energy and producing lots of body heat. I don’t mountain climb or ski, but I’m outside a lot, and I’m oh so glad I purchased this, it will remain a staple in my growing Arc’Teryx wardrobe. This company is at the top of the mountain for high adventure, high end gear. Keep up the great work Arc’Teryx.

Faulty inside pockets

I bought this and the pockets sucked. I LOST A PHONE AND DEB PEN AFTER 3 uses because the liner inside just eroded. Is waterproof though. Horrendous product overall.

Ich habe die Jacke jetzt seit ca. 3 Wochen in Benutzung.Habe sie jetzt bis jetzt bei 7 Skitouren und einigen leichten Kletterern getragen.
Die Qualität und die Verarbeitung sind sehr gut! Die Jacke ist angenehm zu tragen! Wie gut die Jacke sich über die Jahre bewähren wir bleibt noch offen, ich hoffe aber sie wird mir mehrere Jahre Freude bereiten!
Es ist bis jetzt meine 4te Hardshell Jacke und ich muss sagen das Gewicht/Leistungsverhältniss ist unschlagbar!
Ich habe die Jacke in der Größe M genommen da mir meine letzte Hardshell Jacke immer etwas zu kurz und eng war.(zum Beispiel beim klettern) Die Jacke bietet somit sehr gut Platz um etwa eine dicke Daune drunter zu tragen oder Felle und oder Handschuhe unter der Jacke zu verstauen.Was mir Persönlich wichtig war ist dass ich mich uneingeschränkt in der Jacke bewegen kann.

I bought this jacket in the fall, its was great through the rainy season.
It fits really well for a variety of activities, wether it be cycling in the city, or hikes up north.
I bought slightly oversized, now that its winter, I've Paired it with a cerium hoody, i'm really warm and really waterproof!

In love with this hardshell

Have been wearing this for about a month now. Excellent hardshell. As advertised very breathable, and very, very weatherproof. Extremely high quality build. Literally zero imperfections on mine. Fairly lightweight for such a jacket. Fit is a little long for me, but I'm about 5'10 and bought a M. High quality and well designed points of adjustments via cohaesive cord locks. Stormhood works at promised, and is highly adjustable. So even if the jacket is a little big, absolutely no problem, adjustment makes it fit how you like. Would highly recommend buying Nu DWR and Nu technical detergent from Arc'teryx with the jacket. Haven't realised this yet, but washing will be an essential part of caring for it. Overall highly recommend, one of the best, most rugged and most well designed hardshell out there. Absolutely worth the price.

Grate quality

I got this jacket a couple of weeks ago and I’ve already have gotten a lot of use of it. I go to the ski hill almost everyday and it has done a grate job of keeping dry and staying in one piece. My only complaint is that I can’t put my hand in any of the pockets on the jacket.

Unbeatable Shell

Now on my second Alpha SV. These shells set the standard that every other company strives to match. My first SV was used as a shell to climb a 6000M mountain in Nepal. It performed incredibly well, keeping the wind at bay. Layered really well though I felt that the Large was a bit small for me (When layered) so when I picked up my new Alpha SV I went with an XL (I'm 5'10", 200lbs).
Looking forward to putting this new shell to the test in Ecuador this month!

Just amazing piece of history around my weak body, ...this is the feeling when you get the Alpha SV out there. Feel safe! I share the concern related to the new sizing, e.g. the S is just perfect for me (1.70cm/94 cm chest, 64Kg) but the M would be too big. Crucial to decide how layering now. Would probably need some advice. The Alpha SV has improved significantly the comfort, still extremely solid, great visibility thanks to the fantastic hood (which I wear very often). Time will tell, but this is a big step forward. Great investment.

This is the worst performing hardshell ever!!! Even the smallest trickle soaked my skin..due to its elitist almost 1000 dollar pricetag I couldn't wear it. Come on this shouldn't be out of reality for everyone with a family and no trust fund.

If your garment looks or feels dirty or is no longer beading water, give it a wash. With Heavy use (e.g. heavy activity) – wash every 5 to 8 days of use. A fantastic shell

Quite possibly the best GTX shell jacket ever made. I've been lucky enough to own more than one over the last several years, taking an SV on all sorts of normal and nutty adventures. At first, I was not supportive of the front pockets, thinking they were too large, but quickly realized how wrong I was when I started using them with gloves and/or to stuff with gloves. But what surprised me the most was the cut length - it's...perfect. I wear a small and am 5ft11, but I find between harness, gear and pack, no matter the condition, I never end up battling my jacket to get access to what I need. It just...works. And it works great.

Bought one 20 years ago… finally gave it away and bought latest. I don’t climb mountains anymore… got this because it’s made so darn well… unparalleled fit. Love it.

Still rocking the same Alpha SV after 3 years and it still looks and functions great! I absolutely love the durability and the Build quality of the jacket! I wear this thing all year round for Rain, Snow, or just Wind. It is a little bulkier than just a rain jacket but the added durability gives me peace of mind when bushwacking through the woods or on longer scraggly canoe trips!

Amazing quality but large sizing

This is my 3rd shell jacket from Arcteryx and I keep coming back because not a lot out there can rival the quality and looks. Its worth noting that the sizing on this jacket is different from previous models. Im 6'1 and 170 lbs and would usually go for a size M. I found that on this model it wore larger than normal, with more than enough room around the body, bulky shoulders and long sleeves. I returned my M for a S instead and here the fit was much better. It still has room for layering but remains looking slim, even for those days where an insulated base layer isnt needed. At the end of the day it comes down to preference, but if you are like me who preferres a more athletic look, I would size down.

Happy to share my comments in relation to your post. Don't think the Alpha SV fits large. I've purchased the S, fits perfectly (only one mid layer) all, sleeves, chest, lenght... I am 1.70cm/chest 94cm/ 64 Kg. - I am "surviving" with: merino as base layer, Atom AR (mid), and the super amazing Alpha SV. Probably the M fitted large on you, but from my humble point of view - generally speaking - the current S fits small, fits like my Beta L (2017). From my point of view, the new sizing is quite misleading i.e. the current S (regular) fits like the previous XS. The point is that if you're clearly on the M size body, okay, but the S has become smaller.

I just received my alpha sv in Bordeaux colour. What a jacket. This is the best jacket ever. Great colour. Great quality. Great design. Its kind of expensive but i will say its gonna last for a long time you can feel the quality and how good build it is.

Best jacket I’ve ever worn.

I bought this jacket several months ago because I needed a tough as nails Gore-Tex shell with unrestricted movement. I do a lot of winter hiking and cross country skiing as well as your normal every day back-and-forth from work. I get a lot of snow where I live. I’m a believer in the fact that great gear can make you more capable and versatile, and this is the jacket to allow you to be just that. I’ve worn it on a bunch of hiking trips so far with inclement weather and a lot of scrambling and it performed far beyond my expectations. This jacket is pure awesomeness. Bomb proof!

The best all round winter shell on the market

I bought this as I am a huge fan of the dark magic color scheme and I needed a new coat to ski in. The fit was a little longer than the beta AR and looser fitting in the large size than the beta AR. This was just what I needed for skiing in. Also the sleeves are very long (due to being a ice climbing coat) but this is great if you like your coat over your gloves. The hood is also the largest hood ive used, giving full range of motion, even when having a xl ski helmet on underneath. The pockets are great to dump lots of things in and very easy to access. What I also love about this coat is, as its not a specific ski coat, you can also wear it for hiking/city/mountaineering for when it is very stormy and need the best protection from the elements around.
