Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. This jacket is everything I could ask for in a shell. Have been out in torrential rains and I have stayed dry and comfortable. Sizing is perfect as is freedom of movement. Have work with an insulated mid layer in cold temps and have stayed quite war,

Like the energizer bunny, its just keeps on ticking. My jacket is over 6 years old and still performs as well as when new. I thought about retiring it this year, and took it in to compare with a brand new one, and there was hardly any difference. Will just have to keep it longer.

Beta AR is the perfect jacket for hiking. The Gore-Tex Pro material offers excellent protection from rain and, with adequate layering, cold.

Have had mine 3 years and like new. Have worn the jacket during the three colder seasons in upstate NY with layers. Great fit and great look! Wouldn’t hesitate to invest in this shell again!

Great shell - so far works for any temperature (with layers). Didn’t realize how non water-resistant my old shell had become until I experienced first downpour in this one. Lightweight and (so far) durable.

Like the jacket, better quality than my last rain jacket, plenty of room for layering. Not a great fan of the hood - but it works which is important.

Go to jacket for bad weather use in many outdoor activities. Looks good, too.

Overall, a great jacket for any outdoor enthusiast. Solid material, construction and very functional design. Arc’teryx is great at form and function.

I spent a lot of time in this jacket this year, including 1 canoe trip in the Yukon and 2 trips in Northern Ontario. It rolls up nice and compact and is very comfortable to wear. The hood is really well designed - I usually find a hood to be a pain but it was no problem to paddle and portage when it was on. In spite of the heavy usage, there does not seem to be any sign of wear.

I own four goretex jackets and this is the one I like most. It is great for all round use and the material feels super durable as Arcteryx always is. What I like most is the collar design on this piece. It separates from the hood so I can always zip it all the way up to block wind with or without putting the hood on, which is nice as I don’t always want to use the hood. And it looks better this way to me, too. Another great product from Arc’teryx!

Einfach eine geniale Jacke, dank der Lüftung unter der Schulter auch angenehm im Sommer und im Aufstieg. Die Jacke habe ich auf jeder Tour dabei, ob als Wetter-, oder Windschutz auf dem Gipfel.

I bought this jacket lightly used and got less than a year out of it and the seam tapes was coming off the draw cord is dangling around me like a hula hoop and from day one it was not waterproof at all. One of the worst mistakes I have made.Also fabric is getting air pockets in it.

My first Arcteryx jacket bought as a replacement due to the demise of a trusty old but now worn out Rab Event jacket. I had to breathe deeply as I shelled out a fortune for the updated 2018 Beta AR jacket in a smart Tui colour. I invested the time to try out a number of competitors jackets but did not think they came anywhere close to the Beta in terms of well thought out design, fit and finish. The Beta just appeared to be “better” in every department. I first tried out my new jacket hill walking for around 2 hours in a steady downpour with humidity at 90% and temperature around 16-18c. Under the jacket I only wore a long sleeved baselayer. After around 30 minutes exertion I started to become quite hot and sweaty and had to partially open the pit zips which immediately made things more comfortable. As an experiment I had placed a paper tissue inside each pocket to investigate if they became wet. At the end of the walk the tissues in the outer pockets remained bone dry and the one in the internal chest pocket had become a little damp I presume from the sweat and humidity building up inside the jacket. Needless to say I and my baselayer remained bone dry which is exactly why I shelled out so much for this jacket. I have subsequently worn the Beta AR for walking the dog in much cooler weather being happy that it was roomy enough to accommodate a warm light down jacket. I felt very comfortable and movement was still pretty much unrestricted due to the excellent cut and fit. The various volume adjusters around body and hood all work brilliantly as do the excellent zips. I look forward to taking it to northern Nepal next month to use as a wind proof layer over a down jacket and to put it through it’s paces with some tougher Alpine tests next summer. hoping that the material will stand up well to abrasion. All in all it’s quite a hefty price to pay to remain reasonably comfortable in hostile conditions but it’s plain to see that it’s probably a price worth paying in comparison to the majority of existing similar products. I just hope I don’t break it!

Bought this jacket as a go-to hard shell and it has performed amazingly. It performed to and excelled my expectations. Usually, use to it get to school in the rain or just hiking, and camping. I would definitely recommend!

I have worn Arcteryx gear for many years on many outdoor adventures and always loved the comfort and durability, however something odd happens when I layer my Beta AR over a Nuclei Hoody or Cerium LT. The oddity is that almost immediately excessive moisture builds up between the inside of the Beta AR and the outer layer of my Nucei or Cerium. I am not a 'sweaty guy', however, a lot of moisture gets trapped between the 2 layers with no where to go. I have tried opening the pit zips to no but the arms and back or still soaked in moisture (and opening the pit zips defeats the sole purpose of layering up...too keep warm!). Not sure if Arcteryx testers have experienced this... thanks to anyone that can share their thoughts.

I was on a canoe trip on the Great Whale River and we dumped. I had my coat on and when I got out of the water my entire upper body dry besides my wrist which was damp. That saved me from hypothermia that day because the water was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit and I was swimming for a while.

I have worn Arc’teryx for years in all forms (mostly base and mid-layer, some footwear) but this is my first outer shell. I wanted lightweight, waterproof, durable and flexible and got all of these with a hood! This jacket gives me options in different environments and I am very happy. I also took advantage of one of the offers, so great quality at real value!

J'étais d'abord très satisfait de la veste, jusqu'à ce que certaines pièces (fermetures éclair et cordons notamment) se mette à briser facilement. Lorsque j'ai demandé si des pièces de remplacement existaient, et Édouard du service client m'a répondu qu'ils ne les fournissaient pas et que je n'avais qu'à acheter une autre veste. Ayant déjà acheté d'autres produits Arc'Teryx, je suis inquiet de voir ceux-ci s'user prématurément et irrémédiablement comme la veste Beta AR...

I've had three Beta jackets and they all failed after some years of moderate use, I'm not a mountaineer but used them for the rainy days and some weeks of skiing. The first one, there was an issue with the waist cord and it delaminated. It was replaced as expected. The replaced jacket also delaminated but because its front zipper also malfunctioned it was not replaced with reference to wear and tear. It was the old type of front zipper which they later changed to the more resistant version with larger teeth. So I bought one of them. After some use this also began to delaminate but also the taped seams started to slip. So when the waist cord dropped out, I returned it. After a week they returned with the message that the cuffs and the waist cord could be repaired but not the taped seams because it was due to wear and tear??? I complained but heard nothing. Then after 2+ months I received my jacket partly repaired. First of all, when you buy a jacket with that price label you would expect a better customer service process. Secondly, from the reviews here and other blog posts, these types of malfunctions seems to be a known issue. I know, nothing last forever but I have other Gore-tex shell jackets(Haglöfs) which does not have these "glue" issues. Bottom line, these are nice designed and well fitting jackets but don't expect it to be flawless.

Unfortunatly ?? there is no rain to be expected in Belgium any time soon. So to test this jacket I jumped into the shower. After five minutes I was still completely dry. Only when I pointed the shower head fully on the front zipper the water came trough. The jacket is also a bit noisy, but that should get less in time. I hope it will prove worth the money, because it surely is expensive.

Have had this jacket for 5 years. It has gone with me as a backup to my patrol jacket in Maine winter's, SAR work in Mahoosuc and Grafton, and through every rain and snow since I bought it. The Beta AR breathes well enough to go over a wool baselayer for the early-morning skintrack. And, it has the space for multiple base and mid layers for the frigid days as well.. This is an excellent purpose-built piece. Everyone complaining about the high front needs to put a harness on and watch as the bottom of the zipper sits just above their carabiner. It's perfect. It also allows easy access to anything on your belt if you carry tools. The sleeves are very long, but when you are reaching straight up while climbing, this extra fabric proves essential, especially if you have cinched your sleeves down over gloves while ice climbing or something. Overall: I'm not sure I would go with this piece just for walking around the city in the rain, but if you plan to spend a huge sum of time in the woods, on a mountain, or on a wall, GET THIS JACKET! One update: My original piece was pretty worn in and had a zipper failure so I sent it to Arc'teryx for a zipper repair. They emailed me back after evaluating it and found that the gtx layers had delaminated. Sent me a brand new piece a week later and its working great so far. Awesome customer service as usual.

I bought two Beta A/R Jackets and two Beta A/R pants to keep at two homes. Both have failed. See pictures. I do not know if I got a bad batch of Gore Tex or what. This is $2,100 in Gore Tex and they failed identically. First jacket and pant were replaced. Thank you Arc'teryx. Second set has not reached a resolution. I suspect a design flaw on the hem. New jackets are welded over. So far the replacement is working fine.

I bought this jacket years ago and had used it for a few light day hikes per year, rain days, and general use. After 5 years of steady use with regular washing I noticed that it wasn't repelling water and was starting to leak through. One of pocket zippers had separated and was left permanently open. Not what I expect for a $700 jacket, but it had seen 5 years of regular use. I emailed my situation and after sending my jacket in for Arcteryx to assess, I was told that they were going to replace since it was irreparable. I now have my new jacket in use and couldn't be happier. Although these jackets are expensive, they do preform well and the company has definitely proven to me to stand behind their product. I saved up and treated myself to this jacket, and I loved the performance overall. However, after maybe 5 mountain-climbing excursions, I found two spots on the inside lining that have worn almost completely through. I did not abuse the jacket at all, but I guess maybe there was some exposed velcro on my pants that was rubbing during the climb. I contacted the warranty center, but was told that this can't be fixed; instead they sent me a piece of tape to patch it. I've only had the jacket for a little over a year...have to say I now regret the purchase. Bottom line: if you decide to spend the money on this jacket, be very careful with it - the inside lining can be easily damaged. And despite what the Warranty and Repair Policy says, it will not be "repaired at a nominal charge."
