Tonje Kvivik’s eight-year trajectory from teenage ski bum to Arc’teryx team member is a story of following her intuition and her lifelong passion for powder and speed. It helped that she has a tendency to send huge, the ability to treat mice stealing her food as part of the ski bum adventure, and a commitment to keeping things fun. With that combination, everything else can fall Tetris-like into place. The Norwegian cybersecurity Masters student now has a half dozen ski film credits to her name. Born in Kristiansand, and on skis from the age of 2, Kvivik’s gap year in France might have initially been conceived as a way to get the big mountains out of her system… but it just set the hook, reeling her on to Revelstoke, BC, where a DIY sled-and-ski-and-make-movies partnership with a crew dubbed “The Blondes” built an audience of fans at festival and pub screenings, and landed her on the radar of Matchstick Productions. Four MSP films later, Kvivik clinched the award for Standout Female Skier of the Year in 2022, and starred in How Did We Get Here?, a showcase with her original crew. Now she’s embracing a hyphenated life, finding energy in the contrast of being a pro skier and a technology student, from home bases by the fjords of Canada’s west coast and Norway.
