Question 1

ADJUSTABLE CORD?

Amelie, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Kendra, thank you for your question. The Proton SL Hoody features an adjustable hood, but it does not have an adjustable drawcord hem. If a hem adjustment is important to you, the Atom SL Hoody does include an adjustable hem drawcord. We hope that helps!

Question 2

Hi together, which Hoody is warmer: the Proton SL Hoody or the Atom SL Hoody? Thank you!!!

Rick, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Anja, thank you for your question. While both the Proton SL Hoody and Atom SL Hoody are lightweight insulated layers, they use different insulation technologies that create distinct performance profiles. The Proton SL features Octa Rachel knit insulation (98gsm), a highly air‑permeable structure designed to move moisture and release heat efficiently during higher‑output activities. Paired with Fortius Air 20 throughout the body, it delivers exceptional breathability with minimal thermal retention. In contrast, the Atom SL Hoody combines Coreloft Stretch synthetic insulation (40gsm) with Octa polyester fleece in the contrast panels, offering slightly more warmth while still remaining light and compressible. Its weft‑stretch nylon lining adds comfort and weather resistance without compromising mobility. Both SL models use uninsulated sleeves to reduce bulk and help manage moisture during movement. If you’re looking for a more noticeable increase in warmth, the Proton Hoody or Atom Hoody (non‑SL versions) provide additional insulation while maintaining the intended benefits of each collection. We hope this helps.

Question 3

Hi there, what is the shoulder to shoulder measurement on this piece? I have wider shoulders so want to make sure I order the right size. Thank you.

Amelie, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello, thank you for reaching out. For our size Small, the shoulder-to-shoulder measurement (across shoulder width) for the Proton SL Hoody is 39.5 cm. To find the best fit, we recommend comparing your full body measurements to our size chart, as this will give you the most accurate guidance for a comfortable fit. If your measurements are between sizes, select a larger size for a looser fit or a smaller size for a tighter fit. We hope it helps!

Question 4

Is this jacket water proof?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Claire, thanks for your question. The Proton SL Hoody is not waterproof. It’s designed for breathability and lightweight warmth during high-output activities in cool conditions. This jacket uses Fortius™ Air 20, which balances durability, stretch, and air permeability, and is treated with an FC0 DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish to help shed light moisture. However, it won’t keep you dry in sustained rain. If you’re looking for a waterproof jacket, we recommend checking out some of our GORE-TEX shells: https://arcteryx.com/us/en/c/womens/shell-jackets

What is a good outer layer to wear overtop? I see in one of the photos the model is wearing a shell on top of this jacket, wondering what shell that is. Would like to use this as a mid layer for colder conditions.

Question 7

My question is whether it is warm enough to wear without a jacket at -2C?

Sophie · Accepted Answer

Hi Mia, thanks for your question! While we don’t provide specific temperature ratings for our gear, as warmth can be subjective, this item is best used as a base layer or in milder conditions. Although it is insulated, you might feel chilly if worn as the outer layer in temperatures below freezing. However, depending on the intended activity and personal comfort, it's designed for hiking, climbing, and running, so it should provide enough warmth to keep you comfortable during those activities.

Question 8

What is are the maximum and lowest Temperature this jacket can be worn ?

River · Accepted Answer

Hi Emko, the Proton Lightweight Hoody is a versatile piece designed for lightweight warmth and high breathability, making it ideal for high-output activities. It's a great standalone option for warmer spring and fall days, or as an extra layer on colder days when you need warmth without overheating. That said, we don't rate our garments for temperature since factors like activity level, weather, and individual comfort vary widely. We recommend checking out our Layering Guide for tips on staying warm. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/layering-guide/
