Wetting out and disappointed in customer service

I purchased this product as a Christmas gift. The first time worn in a moderate rain and it wetted out badly. I have 4 Arcteryx shells and have never experienced this problem. To date, the response from Arcteryx is very disappointing. It's an expensive jacket, which I am fine paying, but this particular item is severely flawed. It happens in global production processes, but when it does, companies need to provide support to its loyal customers.

I was wrong. Arc’teryx deemed the new $850 jacket in perfect condition. According to Arc’teryx we are unable to tell the difference between 'wetting out' and 'leaking'. Very disappointing response from customer service. A loyal customer and avid outdoor enthusiast who has praised your products to friends and strangers is now lost to your company.

Dry and Durable

I bought this jacket in 2015 and have been very pleased with it over the years. It always keeps me dry (assuming it's cool enough that I don't sweat it out), though the lack of hand pockets does leave my hands very cold when it would be nice to tuck them somewhere protected from the wind and rain.
The pit zips are handy, the velcro on the wrists nice, the hood shape is good over a helmet, the zippers are sealed well, the chest pockets are sizeable and reasonably placed, the foam in the hem keeps it tucked in a harness.
Sometimes I wish it were a little longer, and often I wish I had sized up another size so as to not feel so stuffed when I wear a midlayer or puffy beneath it... though that might make it too big, hard to tell. As stuffed as I may feel when wearing it layered up, I rarely notice once I start climbing and seem to have full-enough range of motion, which is huge.

Excellent product but extremely expensive

I have gone through 4 rain jackets in 13 years of recreating in the PNW. Hiking, climbing, mountain objectives, and skiing. Eventually I saved up enough money to buy this and it’s lasted well for 3 seasons so far. I think the cost per wear will eventually make it a better deal than cheaper jackets. This gear is really great but the cost is quite prohibitive so I would only suggest getting it if you have money to blow or have been constantly recreating outside for years.

Great versatile shell!

Great, lightweight Alpha shell option. Worn a few times on winter hikes/adventures and eager to try it out on some mountaineering missions in the months to come. Packs down well. Great hood. Longer sleeve length which is great for climbing or reaching up without jacket riding up. Bought Tatsu/Sprint colour way. Tatsu yellow has more green undertones in person.

I've had it for nearly years

People ask me why I always wear the same jacket. And I tell them it's the only shell I will ever own, because that was my intention when I bought an Arcteryx jacket and it hasn't let me down. I live in the temperate rain forest and have tried to keep up with its maintenance. Still looks good. Only wish it had lower pockets, but the high pockets make it easy to use a harness.

Wetting out:(

I have been the owner of several Arcteryx Jackets and what I loved the most, was its versatility, performance and lifetime warranty. Whenever I had a problem they would fix it and therefore I would not mind paying more: I knew I would get a great product and a great service.
In December I bought a returned Alpha AR Jacket (the clerk was unable to let me know why they returned it) and -sadly- from the first day it rained it was wetting out. I washed it, I DWR it and it did not help. It still is wetting out. Mostly the right side while the back of the jacket is less impacted.
I wish the clerk would have enquired why that Jacket was returned, before I bought it since I think that that might have been the reason the jacket was returned.
I do not recommend the product and am saddened that a great name- like Arcteryx- is losing its impeccability.

I bought this jacket last month. I haven’t been able to try it in really cold weather but it is built very well and looks like it will keep me warm and dry this winter.
