Favorite shell in Arc's Lineup

Pretty early still, as I only got it 3 weeks ago, but this is a great jacket to stuff in the bottom of your everyday bag, and have for an emergency rain. Sure it's pricey and meant for climbing but the construction makes it extra light and packable. The pit zips and hadron make it versatile. I wear it biking, hiking, and just walking around town. Lack of hand pockets is 100% understandable due to its intended purpose, and is also a plus when using a backpack with hip straps. The two tone black is unique compared to most other jackets in the Arc'teryx lineup. Very nice jacket

Nearly perfect jacket

Incredible jacket! This thing is so light that it almost floats. Great fit, great details, and works very well. I'm not really using it for anything particular, just wanted a very nice gore tex jacket that will last a long time. My only critiques are that the jacket comes with a fairly heavy fragrance scent, like they sprayed it before shipping? Minor detail but for $700+ I'd expect no funny smells. Would also love some pockets to put my hands into, but I suppose that's on me for not researching closely enough :)

The jacket does what it’s built for, it’s extremely weatherproof, lightweight, packs into nothing, has the right amount of features. The hood is superb when worn with a helmet, it still allows great movement range and visibility, this hood design is something i ended up looking for in other brands jacket and very rarely found something similar.

Zippers do not match colorwise

A very nice jacket - light, good fit, good breathability. However, what is very unpleasant from a design perspective is the fact that the zippers do not fit the color. Why would you do that after having done it ever since I can remember? It makes the jacket look much cheaper and not as a 700 Euro high end product…

Perfect fit

After 10 years of use the alpha jacket is my favorite. I used it heavily for alpine skiing in all kinds of weather. The light weight of the jacket was very important to me. I just received the new alpha jacket and the 13 ounce weight is perfect. I love the new material in this version. I've been wearing arcteryx outer shells ( alpha LT and alpha sv) since 1989 and they are the best.

Great lightweight full feature jacket! Weird sizing though, size down from old Arcteryx sizing. Used to be a medium and have been working out for ice season, and am now a small for their shell jackets. Seems to be a baggier city centered fit instead of athletic alpine. Otherwise high quality material and just the feature you need.

I love my gear… BUT..

I love Arcteryx products. This is literally my go to brand. Warranty process has gotten significantly harder, so if anything happens to my jackets I will have to worry about that then. I loved it when you could send in your jacket and they would repair/replace it. Especially if it was a manufacturer defect. No longer the case. But Im glad the brand is thriving and growing. However, I may have to think twice about wearing a jacket for its built intention. I dont work my gear out hard and take great care and do proper washes, per Arcteryx instructions. Only time will tell how things will pan out. Hope this honest review helps.

Great all around jacket

Great jacket all around. The hood and pockets are really good. The colour combination Arctic Silk / Solitude is excellent. Only downside is that black zipper which cuts the jacket half and looks stupid. The zippers should be same colour as the jacket. And it wouldn't hurt to make those hood adjustment cordstrings same colour as the jacket. It all would make the jacket better looking.

I got the alpha AR last winter and it's worth the money, not only is the jacket waterproof, it also serves as a breathable outer layer. I've gone backcountry skiing, and even after a whole day I didn't get wet. Plus it looks pretty sick

Eine absolut tolle Hardshell Jacke!

Nachdem ich zwei Hardshelljacken von anderen Herstellern hatte, mit denen ich nicht 100prozentig zufrieden war, hab ich mich dazu entschieden, doch mal das Geld in eine Alpha zu investieren. Und ich muss sagen, ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der Jacke. Das anfängliche Knistern des Materials lässt nach kurzer Zeit und ein paar Wäschen deutlich nach. Ein wenig gewöhnungsbedürftig war die Position der Taschen, aber das war mir ja vorher bekannt. Wer allerdings gerne die Hände in die Jackentaschen steckt, wird die Jacke eher nicht mögen und sollte eher zur Beta greifen. ;-) Fürs Klettern sind die Taschen aber natürlich ideal angebracht. Die Ärmel der Alpha sind ein wenig lang geraten. Ich wusste am Anfang nicht, ob mich das eventuell stören würde. Durch die Klettverstellung ist allerdings gewährleistet, dass die Ärmel nicht einfach runterrutschen. Und allmählich hab ich auch den Vorteil der etwas längeren Ärmel ausgemacht. Wenn es regnet kann man seine Hände gut darin verstecken, damit diese trocken bleiben. Wasserdicht ist sie natürlich zu 100 Prozent, zumindest hat sie mich dahingehend bislang nicht im Stich gelassen und ich konnte sie beim diesjährigen, sehr regnerischen deutschen Wetter schon ausgiebig testen. ;-) Die Verstellmöglichkeiten der Kapuze sind natürlich auch noch positiv anzumerken, besonders, da auch ein Helm drunter passt, was beim Kletter, aber auch beim Radfahren durchaus nützlich ist. Ich bin also rundum zufrieden mit der Jacke. Jetzt heißt es nur noch schauen, wie langlebig sie wirklich ist. Dann wird es mit Sicherheit nicht die letzte sein. ;-)

Great jacket - don’t fix what isn’t broken

I bought the Alpha Jacket a year ago at Arc’teryx 17th Ave in Calgary. It’s been a great jacket. Winter use - it’s my shell for all my windy adventures hiking. Unlike my Bata Hadron in XL, the Alpha Jacket in XL fits more generously (a good thing) and allows for room for my Cerium LT - nice and warm while I watch the sunrises from the top of Prairie Mountain. Spring and summer, so far so good. It’s kept me perfectly dry on the sidelines coaching rugby and on rainy trails. The Hadron GoreTex is a huge plus and reduces overall weight - strong and light, if you know you know. I’m not sure why Arc’teryx doesn’t use it more often. Pros: - water stopper - light weight & packable - classic Arc’teryx quality - generous room Cons - can’t think of any. Final word - don’t fix what aint broken. Arc’teryx seems to be making seemingly random changes to their gear, changes naming schemes, etc. Not sure why. Leave this jacket alone - you got it right.

Sleeves way too long

Bought this XL jacket online. Body is perfect fit but sleeves are two inches too long! (and I have long arms). If you look at the model wearing size M, notice how bunched up the sleeves are at the wrist. No alternative but to return for refund, and I loved the black/yellow color and the functionality of this jacket!

Terrible Durability

For pure ice climbing or walking in the snow/rain I'm sure this jacket is great. However, for Scottish mixed climbing or any activity in which it is likely to come into contact with rock it's useless. 1 day of Scottish mixed and it had multiple nicks and tears from where it had brushed on coarse granite. I ended up using my old beta jacket for the remainder of the trip and this withstood anything I could do to it. The Alpha is a lovely looking jacket but with shocking durability.

Great lightweight water/windproof layer

Purchased three months ago and worn almost every day, this jacket has come with me for ice skating, ice climbing, backcountry skiing and hike guiding. Living in the Rockies and mostly participating in activities that are high cardio output, I hadn't incorporated GORE-TEX layering into my approach until getting this jacket. Now it is my go-to in combination with the Atom for most conditions. Great combination of durability and lightweight with the Hadron face fabric. Lightweight enough to be worth packing even if you don't plan to wear it and adds a ton of protection from the wind and elements if conditions change.

One of the BEST soft shell jackets ever

I work in the adventure tourism industry. The Arcteryx Alpha Jacket is amazing, I wear it in so many mountain-weather conditions and it always performs perfectly. It regulates my body temperature when I travel up hill and then down. No need to remove a coat and then put them back on. It retains insulation value if wet and dries fast, like I said, amazing. Also, it is stylish enough to wear as a casual jacket.

Excellent jacket for its intended use

Have used this jacket on several trips in the Canadian Rockies as a mountaineering and ski jacket. During the windiest, most grumble-inducing weather, it’s kept out the worst of the elements. Works well within a layering system provided the other pieces are breathable. Due to the focus on keeping the elements out, it tends to keep things in well as well; requiring a different jacket for warmer weather. Don’t expect it to pack all the way down being a goretex jacket, but for higher alpine it’s worth packing.

Awesome jacket

Everything is perfect about this jacket except for the length of the torso. When I ice climb the jacket pops out of my harness quite often when I reach up. It is mainly in the front where the hem makes it is shorter there than the back. Can Arc' either make the jacket have no hem or make a tall version or make the regular sizes have a longer torso please.
