“Of course, it looks good, but it’s not frivolous,” says designer Greg Grenzke. Every seam is driven by function and designed to “optimize how you move,” he says.

Whether you’re mid-crux, leaping over a crevasse, or finishing a run, “any sense of resistance is a bad sign,” says Arc’teryx designer Tom Fayle.
That’s why we obsess dynamic seam placements — to keep you moving freely.
“When I’m ice climbing and mid crux, all my focus goes into the movements I’m making to keep me safe and in control,” says Arc’teryx athlete Sarah Hueniken. “The best gear is the gear I don’t notice,” she says. “And dynamic seam placement lets me stay present and move freely without concern.”
