Love this jacket, this is my 3rd. Not too heavy and bulky, like the extra length on the back. Worked in Antartica and will be tested at the Arctic Circle. Easy to pack, plenty warm.

Super packable and warm

The Thorium was the perfect jacket for my trip to New York in October. It was cold and windy on the sailing boat and while I walked through the streets, but the jacket always kept me warm. I loved how packable this jacket is, fitting perfectly in my Heliad 15 for effortless travel.

Too many irritants.

The length is good, covers my butt.
Sizing is good, generous.
Warmth is good.
Here's what I don't like:
First thing: Fabric is see through. It is not white. Looks like camo. Can be a style, if that's what you're going for. But definitely not white. Only the shoulders and cuffs are really white. I think they doubled on the material in these spots.
Second thing: I don't like that the logo is not on the chest anymore (but it still is on the men's version??).
Just put the logo back where it was! Not on the sleeve, not on the cuff, not on the hood - on the chest!!
Third thing: collar definitely is an irritant. You can't not zip it up, it doesn't lay down properly.
Honestly I think I'll return for these reasons.

Suit of armor.

Brought this piece for my lady and she is absolutely pleased with it. As a stand alone she says it’s great, coupled with the kyanite hoody. It’s comparable to a suit of armor. Warmth, stand alone in 25-30 degree Fahrenheit with a windchill and a real feel of 20 does the trick just fine. We’re both pleasantly surprised by its pack ability. Only complaint is the hood, but to be honest it just may be knit picking at that point. She said and I quote “I wish the hood and the collar wasn’t attached.” Other than that great jacket. Maybe the only down you would want to own outside the Cerium.

Warm comfy coat

I bought this coat because I needed something warmer than my arcteryx atom. I like that the hood covers your whole head and the length is long enough to just cover the butt. It keeps me nice and warm. The only thing I wish, is that they made the shape of the coat slightly more flattering. It's quite boxy. It also fits larger than other arcteryx styles. I'm an xs in the atom heavyweight, but in this coat an xxs would have had a more flattering fit, unfortunately because of the boxy shape, I had to purchase the xs to make sure it would fit around the hip area, leaving it quite spacious around my upper body.

I bought this 2 weeks ago and love it. It’s very warm and comfortable. I love how it has lots of pockets and love the inside pockets for gloves or mitts. I feel like the fabric is fairly sturdy and will last.

Not warm enough for Toronto, and other QA issues

I bought this version because its longer than the thorium, I’m 5’2, 120lbs, athletic build with wide shoulers and I wear a small to layer. An XS fits as well but a bit tight around my shoulders. Bought this a month ago in Toronto during black Friday and I would not buy this at full price. It’s not as warm as you think unless you’re moving around a lot, so I recommend layering. I commute and wear thermal layers and I still feel cold at only -2C. If it’s windy out, you’ll also feel cold, but I have hope that this jacket will be appropriate for winter sports when I head to Blue Mountain in January. The collar of the jacket goes up really high and is quite stiff, so it pokes in your face unless you zip it down your neckline or all the way up. Zipping up the jacket is also VERY finicky, it’s angled weird and doesn’t go through the bottom zipper easily— I can’t imagine zipping up when you’re wearing gloves or have cold hands. The interior breast pocket is a bit too shallow for my liking, but nothing has fallen out yet so its good enough. The hoody when zipper up fully is also very puffy and I like it, but it might look weird if you’re not into that.

Perfect all around puffy

I’ve had this jacket for a couple weeks now, but it has been put to the test in our cold, dry snowy climate. The length is simply perfect for me- at 5’4” and 125lbs, the small just covers my heiny, which is fabulous. It somehow fits close to the body while still having room for layers. I purchased the bitters color, which is a lovely dark neutral alternative to black and goes with nearly everything. The hood is big, as others have mentioned, but I LOVE it. It slides right over a hat. The neck does come up high but I also love that- it’s a good windblock (although a little fleece patch would have been welcome. Oh well. Not quite enough to take off a whole star). The jacket sheds light snow and the material seems durable- that’s actually why I purchased it- to replace a similar lightweight puffy that I was destroying. I have high hopes that this one will hold up to my abuses. I also love the two way zipper at the bottom. Overall this is a lovely all around jacket that I will use daily in our mountain town and pack as an outer layer on cold tours. It seems like it can do it all.

Good jacket but...

It is a warm jacket and doesn't shed like others of a similar categories do. It has stronger fabric. The jacket has a bit larger fill sections which makes it look a bit saggy and puffier than earlier version. The zipper end has already started to get stuck after a few wearing which I hope the store can fix it.

Good fit

Good basic jacket. I am 5’1”, hourglass shape and pleased the jacket cut adapts well, being a bit looser than some of the slimmer fit models. It’s well made, comfortable and has been warm enough unlayered-for the lowest temperature range experienced to date of 32 degrees.
If the jacket had a dual direction zipper-it would be a 5 star.

Just not flattering on my body type

Bought this and the Thorium Jacket to compare. I much preferred the cropped look of the Jacket so this got sent back. This jacket felt very long on me (5’4 but I do have short legs and a long torso) so it just wasn’t flattering on my body type.

I love my Thorium! It is my go to all winter - keeping me warm and toasty no matter what the activity.
I can dress it up or down to wear it around town, out for a walk, on my bike commute into work, or when doing errands.
I like the longer length to keep my hips warm and the big hood that fits well over a toque when its really chilly.

Missleading size guide

My chest is 32" and waist 27. I followed the size guide and purchased a size small. It turns out small is too big for me. I need to size down to at least xs. I got a deal during Black Friday but arcteryx doesn’t offer exchange. Very disappointed.

So cosy and warm!

Love my Thorium. It's an amazing down piece that will keep you warm and comfy throughout these cold winter days. Very light to carry, it packs up very small and makes a nice pillow when travelling by rolling it up in the hood. The outer fabric is nice and strong and actually handles a little rain really well. Don't push it though, it's not a waterproof piece!

The jacket itself is warn and comfortable. The hood however is massive. It has a bungie to make it fit better, but then it looks ridiculous because it gets tighter around the ears and still balloons up around the top and looks like a mushroom top. Also the cut of the jacket around the neck is awkward and annoying. It sticks out so high and far that it really gets in the way. If they change the neck and hood, I would like the jacket. As is, I will be searching for a new jacket for this winter as I can't wear this another winter.

Best Puffy!

At first I was worried about bringing my beautiful Thorium puffy on my trip to Hueco, but it withstood an incredible amount of abuse; scraping on sharp rocks, brushing against the spikiest desert plants and getting shoved into crash pads. I wore that puffy jacket everyday of the trip and it still looks pristine! The Thorium definitely gets the desert stamp of approval!

My go-to jacket all year round!

This jacket is one of my essentials! I wear it all year round in Ontario while working outdoors as a wildlife and conservation photographer. In the warmer months, it’s perfect for chilly mornings and evenings. In the winter, I layer it with the Rho Merino Wool Crew Neck LS, a wool sweater and the Beta Jacket, which allows me to easily shed/add layers as my activity level changes.
The fabric on this jacket is very durable. I have bushwhacked through dense forest areas often in this jacket and have not torn the fabric (although I don't recommend doing that--wear a shell). I’ve worn it often for about two years and haven’t noticed any feathers shedding.
I’m typically either a size XS or S when it comes to Arc’teryx. In this jacket I wear an XS, which I find to be fitted on its own but also roomy enough for a couple of layers underneath.
