Versatile Backpacking and Traveliing Pack

vor einem Jahr
I took this pack with me on a trip around the world. I was travelling for 8 months in Northern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and this wonderful pack was with me throughout the whole journey. After 8 months of heavy use I am pleased to say that this pack still looks and functions as if I puchased it last week. When carrying a heavy load I love the roto glide hip belt. I also really like the removable straps, this makes airline travel extremely easy and seamless. I also love the updated fabric used, I think the old AC2 textile was too heavy and honestly way overkill, this updated 210 denier nylon is more apropriate in my opinion.

Original Bora 80 Backpack Vs New Bora 75

vor 2 Jahren
I own the original Bora 80 backpack, it is awesome! And I still use it today. In my opinion it is still the best backpack I've ever owned. I am writing this review b/c I think the Arc'teryx Re-design Team missed one of the most important attributes of the older model and did not incorporate that into this newer design - the older Bora 80 design was completely white on the inside of the pack. Having white material on inside in your backpack makes for super fast rummaging. I know it's petty, but I hate having to use a head light to see inside my backpack even in daytime light. We've all experienced it, it's late, you just set up your tent and you want to switch out your damp hiking cloths for your soft evening fleece - but you can't see in your backpack and you need your headlamp to see what you are doing. Thankfully, with the older Bora 80, I don't have that problem. Moonlight is sufficient for successful rummaging. I love Arc'teryx equipment and have used my Bora 80 in about 30 countries over 10 years, it is a super-duper rugged backpack. I'd love to get my hands on the new Bora 75 to offer a better review - maybe one day. Be safe! God Bless!

Solid pack

vor 2 Jahren
Solid pack. I’m 6’0” and 160-170lbs. Just back from a camping trip carrying 40+lbs. Carries a lot of weight very well, smooth as could be. Nice arc’teryx minimal design, meaning what you need and sometimes not what everything you think you want (magnet port for bladder mouthpiece, no bottom buckle straps, e.g.). Very usable still, and I didn’t end up missing the things I thought I would. I find the hip belt and rotation/pivot to be brilliant and by itself worth a lot. The rest of the pack has solid materials, as usual. All in all best-carrying large pack I’ve used. Four stars because it’s expensive and I feel like generally arc’teryx can do more for what they charge.

OK bag

I spent a lot of money on this bag so I would love to say its the best, however I've tried better. Hip belt was a mistake I think, very uncomfortable. Took some adjusting as I have a small waist but still an odd design. I

The most painful backpack I've owned

vor 2 Jahren
I found this backpack to be extremely uncomfortable. Based off the size guide the regular size sounded like it would fit me perfectly. I am 5 foot 11 inches, so pretty average as far as height is concerned. I had to adjust the shoulder pads to the smallest setting in order for the hip pads to sit close to where they are supposed to be positioned. However, on my first hike I realized that this was still way too low. This created a large amount of pressure on my lower back and made the backpack severely uncomfortable after a couple hours into a hike. I had to lock the rotoglide in place in order to keep the belt sitting as high as it possibly could. I am so confused with the sizing. I am by no means small, so I don't know how this backpack would work for a lot of people. Really disappointed overall. I have owned a lot of packs and have never had this much back pain cause by one due to the hip belt.

Just received - initial thoughts

vor 3 Jahren
Just received, so initial impressions: Not sure about previous poster saying the front pocket is weird. It's a standard kangaroo pocket. I've had several older Arcteryx packs, and this one is much like the most recent one I had - the Altra 75 from 2012 era. Right off the bat, the fine details and quality sewing are all there, similar to the last models but with some refinement. -Only one side mesh/elastic pocket. The other side has a small zippered pocket. I think I'd prefer to have the second open-top elastic pocket as opposed to the zippered one. Not much can fit in the zippered one, and I usually use the side elastic pockets for items like tent poles or snow pickets to secure their ends in. I find this more useful. -Nice details in the drawstring cords for the collars on the top-load mouth. I like the pull-handles sewn in. -There is a bladder hose hole sewn into top back. -Small zippered pocket inside the pack. -Top lid doesn't seem to have as much room as previous models, but the lamination on the underside pocket is nice. It attaches via metal clasp into sewn strap. This seems to be the new design on a lot of packs which I'm guessing is so you can use the pack without the lid and not have attachment straps and buckles hanging loose. -Zippers are garaged which is a nice improvement. The long side-zip access to main compartment also is garaged. -Minimal sizing on ice-axe loops and lashing bungees. -There are small (almost hidden) minimal sewn loops along both sides of the kangaroo pocket for strapping loads or adjusting height of ice-axe bungees. -No bottom compartment access in case you couldn't tell from photos. There are two very small loops next to ice-axe loops that would appear to be for lashing items to bottom (like a z-pad) but there are no other straps on frame side of bottom to connect to. Not sure what these loops would serve for. Frame: here's where the money is spent. The price on this pack is in the carbon-fiber frame sheet and the rotoglide mount. It is noticeably lighter than the older frame designs (aluminum), and the rotoglide is great. It has an option to lock the glide in place, but honestly the ability to flex/extend the spine and have the hip-belt stay attached in place without pulling on your back is a great comfort. The adjustments for the width/height placement of the shoulder straps is the same as previous, and appreciated. -Shoulder straps and hip belt: very similar to past models, however, the hip-belt seemed less rigid, less bulk, and thinner than past models. Wondering how this will carry in comparison, especially since this is still a 75L pack. I found the old hipbelt to be extremely comfortable. There are mesh elastic pockets sewn on belt like past models. All in all, the pack is remarkably light. The profile is slightly under the average, being a little slimmer and minimal for a 75L pack. It think this will lend well to mountaineering/alpine use for balance and long carry. It is minimal in design compared to other multi-day or expedition backpacks, lacking some bells and whistles. I'd give it a fair price due to quality of sewing, lamination, the carbon frame, and rotoglide. I will check back in a few months after taking it up a few mountains with a 40-60lb load.

Thanks, I was ignorant on that. Makes sense as I thought the frame sheet seemed a little pliable for what stiffness carbon fiber should be.

Harness issues

vor 3 Jahren
I own a grey Bora 63L which I have carried across Iceland and a 7 week Australian hike. Water resistance is great, durability excellent, comfort excellent. There were two significant issues: 1) The hipbelt strap does not maintain tension, when fully tightened it will slacken over time and need to be hitched up again about every 10min. 2) The harness buckles at the shoulders are made of a plastic that intermittently squeaks against the strap, often very loudly and all day long, regardless of how the harness is adjusted. There are also reports of squeaking from the hip belt connection These issues have been discussed with Arc'teryx but were not considered manufacturing defects so remediation or replacement not offered. I can see some design changes have been made in the new model, have the harness issues been addressed?

I experienced the exact same issue with the Bora AR 63 (Tall) hip belt strap loosing tension on my 10 day hike in the Scandinavian mountains last July. It is truly a great and very comfortable pack, but I sincerely hope that Arc'teryx have managed to sort out this issue on the new Bora 75.
