Eine super Hardshell Jacke!

Nachdem ich zwei Hardshelljacken anderer Hersteller hatte, mit denen ich nicht 100prozentig zufrieden war, hab ich dann doch mal die Investition in die Alpha getätigt und es nicht bereut.
Sie ist absolut wasserdicht, was ich beim verregneten deutschen Wetter in diesem Jahr schon ausreichend testen konnte. ;-)
Zudem ist sie tatsächlich gut atmungsaktiv und man schwitzt auch bei wärmeren Temperaturen nicht übermäßig in ihr.
Die Position der Taschen ist natürlich was gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber das war mir vorher ja bekannt.
Zum Klettern ideal, aber wer gerne seine Hände in die Taschen steckt, greift besser zur Beta.
Die Einstellmöglichkeiten der Kaputze sind auch sehr positiv und klappen problemlos. Dass ein Helm drunter passt, ist sehr gut, da sie damit nicht nur ideal zum Klettern, sondern auch zum Radfahren ist.
Die Ärmellänge fällt etwas lang aus. Ich wusste erst nicht, ob mich das vielleicht stören würde.
Aber durch die Klettverstellung bleiben die Ärmel wie gewollt da wo sie hingehören.
Und allmählich hab ich auch den positiven Aspekt der etwas längeren Ärmel entdeckt: Bei Regen kann man wunderbar seine Hände darin verstecken, damit auch diese trocken bleiben. ;-)
Jetzt heißt es nur noch schauen, wie langlebig die Alpha wirklich ist.
Dann wird es definitiv nicht die einzige bleiben. ;-)

Disappointed

Everyone is saying it, and it’s unfortunately the truth. Arcteryx is falling off. Quality is dwindling while prices increase steadily. It’s sad to see a brand that I use to rave about to to my friends and clients as having the best layers and hardshells land where they are now. I wouldn’t recommend arcteryx to anyone anymore. My Alpha AR is now 2.5 years old and is delaminating in several places, despite having washed it as per their instructions. Was I hard on this jacket? Kinda. I mean, it’s a $700 jacket that I used as a professional guide. Do I expect more out of a jacket that costs $700 from a brand that I (used to) respect? Absolutely. I was told that it’s my fault that the delamination is occurring. “Build up of sweat and oils”, they say. In 2.5 years of washing this thing every 3-5 uses, somehow enough sweat and oil has built up 1/3 of the way down only ONE of the sleeves, mind you, to completely delaminate portions of it. Water practically freely runs into the sleeve now, as the layers do virtually nothing to protect from weather. Was it a good jacket to begin with? I suppose so. It worked. But I am so disappointed with my warranty claim and its outcome. I’m disappointed with this jacket’s durability. Ultimately, I’m disappointed in this brand and where they’re headed.

Worse than useless

I've had this jacket for about 5 years. Within less than a year, it had stopped repelling water, and it was used maybe a half dozen times. Since then, it regularly soaks through in even mild rain. Following the care instructions did not help, nor does using any of the aftermarket (Nikwax) waterproofing agents for Gore-Tex clothing. At this point, it's actually a hazard because you think you have waterproof gear when venturing into the mountains when you actually don't. It's basically a $1000 windbreaker at this point.
I would not recommend this jacket to anyone who wants an actually waterproof jacket, and if other Arcteryx clothing is of similar quality, I would not recommend those either.

Delamination on 2nd Alpha SV. I’m changing brands!

Alpha SV jacket made in Canada. Unfortunately the glue used to bond the forested to the outer shell isn’t what it used to be and is causing premature separation in under 2 years of normal use with regular Nikwax washes.

I recently got this shell jacket and let me tell you it’s great. I got the LT vitality/ black, (the blue and black one). I am 5’7 and weigh 152 ish pounds and the jacket fits a bit long but that’s normal for a rain jacket/shell jacket. The sleeves go past my fingers, from the top of my shoulder to my wrist is about 23 inches. I use the wrist velcro strap to make the sleeves shorter and it works perfectly. The jacket falls below my waist a decent bit but 1 big fold makes it perfect. I can fit a hoodie under it no problem with it folded or not and being able to tighten it at the bottom is also very helpful. The color really pops in light and you can really wear it anywhere. It has kept me warm the winter/rain but it’s also very thin so I can wear it in hotter settings.

The 3rd item that literally falls apart.

Arc’teryx claim that their products are designed for long life and durability. This is incorrect.
Following a pair of ski pants and another jacket, this jacket is the third Arc’teryx iproduct that literally falls apart because the the inferior glue they used. My local dealer was ready to sell me another tube with glue for home repair.
I bought Arc’teryx together with other brands so that I could to switch and mix so that the garments would last. No other brand falls apart except for Arc’teryx.
For some reason I can not attache pictures. I can not recommend this brand.
