From Icy Climbs to Rainy Runs

This jacket has become a staple part of my late winter thru spring closet. From an ice climbing shell to a rainy run to an extra waterproof layer over my cerium on a shifty weather day it really does it all. I feel like the cut this year has a little more room around the hips which has helped a lot with layering so I don't feel stuffed inside it and I have a bit more room at the bottom line of my bust so when I layer I don't all of a sudden feel like the jacket is straining over my chest and restricting my movement. Would like a touch more room in the top of the bust though because when I put my hands behind my back you can see a faint tug. Also the pocket to zipper ratio has been perfect, My phone, transit card, wrapper, raffle ticket, and all the tiny things that fall out of pockets all the time, have not in this shell.

Breathable Waterproofing, Windproof, All-Season!

The Beta AR is technical, breathable waterproofing, windproof, all-season technical shell jacket and continues to earn the top spot in my closet as a primary go-to shell I use more than any other jacket year-around in low and high exercise activities outdoors, travel, or casual wear use. Over 15 years, I have owned multiple Beta AR jackets in different colors and on average it lasts over 7 years before replacing with no seam, zipper, or waterproofing issues. The jacket has traveled with me on many adventures around the world. The Beta AR is lightweight, packable, and is exceptional for layering underneath or as a stand alone shell. I am 5’1” and the size small is perfect for a slightly oversized fit for layering. Highly recommend!

Great jacket for everything outdoors

Great performance, but durability short for price

I use this jacket for all my outdoor ventures - including as a wind/rain shell while biking, snowboarding, and hiking/backpacking. It is very waterproof (provided you wash/care for it as recommended); I’ve had no leaks in even the most extreme rainstorm in Patagonia. However, the little piece of metal underneath the fabric for the lower back draw strings on both sides has worn small holes through the fabric. I believe this is a result of wearing a backpack. I spoke with an Arc’teryx representative about this, and they consider this “normal wear and tear” and recommended I patch it with Tenacious Tape. Personally, I do not think a $750 should “wear and tear” like this.

Not so good this time

Sent this back, it was too big, but I think it may not have been right even in the correct size. The cut was a bit funny, and the fabric very rustly and shiny. Shame, I’ve loved my last two Arc’teryx jackets. The colour was good though!

Hello, thank you for your review. We're glad you liked the colorway of the Beta AR and your previous Arc'teryx jackets. The Beta AR has recently been revised, offering a regular fit with extra room in the chest and waist to accommodate midlayers. Based on your experience, we recommend sizing down, or ordering two sizes for comparison, as we offer free returns within 30 days of purchase if you're unsure of the sizing. As for the fabric, Gore-Tex can be a bit noisy but it provides excellent waterproofing. If you prefer something quieter, consider our softshell jackets, though they won't offer the same waterproof performance. Solid performance as an all rounder

Great all rounder, I've used it for backpacking, touring, resort skiing, climbing, and biking. It keeps a little too much heat in for higher output activities in the summer (biking, fast hiking) but that's the cost of using one jacket as your do-it-all. However, it sheds precipitation really well, that heat retention is great for colder days, and it's proven to be very durable. Would buy it again.
