Great shell jacket - Extremely versatile

I initially bought this jacket as a rain coat and have been thoroughly impressed. I wore it out during a rainstorm and the water just slips right off and kept me dry the entire time. The jacket also allows me to stay cool and doesn't build too much heat. I would recommend the jacket for hiking, as a raincoat, or as a wind breaker. Originally bought an XS as I have a smaller build (135 lbs, Male), but wanted to have some extra room for layers in the fall so opted for an S which is slightly larger for me.
Q: Pros:
A: Repels water fantastically
Q: Cons:
A: A bit large for S
Q: Activity
A: Everyday use

Yes, I recommend this product.

This jacket saved my trip to Mosquito country

I purchased this jacket hoping it would protect me from Mosquitos in the cool evenings and mornings. I recently went to Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba. They are suffering with the most mosquitos they have had in decades from all the rain. I wore the jacket in temperatures up to 23C to keep the mosquitos off. I was always comfortable and never bitten. Thank you Arcteryx for this awesome product. It saved my vacation.
Q: Pros:
A: Jacket is a great summer jacket
Q: Activity
A: Day to day wear, hiking, golfing, biking

Yes, I recommend this product.

Love the long arms & other fit notes

My build is middle-age slim with hints of dad bod that comes from swapping rock climbing and a carpentry career for a decade of child rearing and health care work. I'm 6'2", 175 lbs and have a +4 ape index (my wingspan is 4" longer than my height). That can make it difficult to find jackets or shirts with sleeves that fit well. The medium Gamma LT fits perfectly if I'm wearing a simple wool t-shirt or long sleeve shirt underneath. The medium size doesn't allow much room for layering, but I like the trim fit. I also ordered a large for comparison, and the large feels just a tad too big and boxy, but it would allow more layering such as with a sweater, fleece or down vest underneath. I'm on the fence about keeping the large, but I'll probably return it since I have other options if I need more warmth. If you like a trim fit and are my size, go with the medium. If you prefer a roomier fit, then the large is for you. Sleeve length on the medium is perfect and the cuffs stay at my wrists while biking or reaching overhead. Originally I was interested in the Gamma MX, but the size medium had sleeves that were too short while the large size had sleeves that were almost long enough but the coat was way to roomy / baggy on me. The poor fit didn't justify the cost for me. My wife also has a Gamma LT hoody and it's interesting to note the difference in materials. The main difference is that the women's version has a nice, soft microfleece lining that definitely makes it feel warmer against bare skin. I think it's pretty nice but does add a little friction against layers underneath. For wearing around town, I'd prefer the microfleece lining, but for active use, I think the minimalist unlined fabric is probably better (can't say for sure since I haven't worn my wife's jacket during high output activity). There are a few other differences in construction details: the women's hand warmer pocket zippers are behind fabric flaps and the cuffs are standard on the women's while the mens have an asymmetric cuffs with an interesting offset.
Q: Pros:
A: long sleeves, lightweight
Q: Cons:
A: women's lining may be nicer
Q: Activity
A: Mtn and gravel biking, hiking, rounding

Yes, I recommend this product.

functional and resistant to stains

I've had this jacket for about four months, and it proves to be the perfect outer layer for most hikes through the moist, chilly months in B.C. — short of full on rain days. It's on the heavier side for a soft shell if you're packing it as a possible layer for a trip, but if you're wearing it for the day, it works great and the extra grams aren't an issue. It seems to be rugged and durable. I was wearing the jacket last week when I was eating a vegetarian poke bowl, and I accidentally flicked a piece of tofu out of the bowl with my chopsticks. The errant morsel struck my chest and bounced several times down the front of my torso, leaving globs of Sriracha mayo at every contact point. I was initially quite agitated, as it's a pretty new garment and it has become a favourite even for casual urban use, however, I was surprised and delighted to find that the sauce easily wiped off with nothing more than a dry napkin — the material is finished with a coating that appears to wonderfully deter stains from a greasy substance like Sriracha mayo. I have the dark blue version of this jacket, so perhaps a lighter one might show some evidence of a similar mishap, but I walked home beaming with the confidence of a man who never even catapulted a piece of saucy tofu all over himself.
Q: Pros:
A: durable, stain resistance finish
Q: Cons:
A: slightly heavy for a soft shell
Q: Activity
A: hiking, urban casual

Yes, I recommend this product.

Shoulders a bit narrow

I’m in between sizes for sure. Large is always great in torso and arms but the shoulders tend to be tight especially with this jacket. On the flip side if I size up to XL I’m swimming in the torso but the shoulders fit. Great winter hiking softshell though. My gripe, as per usual, is the amount of lamination used. It think a lot of it is unnecessary and will create fail points limiting g the longevity of the jacket.
Q: Pros:
A: Great winter soft shell
Q: Cons:
A: Too much lamination
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, snowshoeing

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good but with sizing inconsistency

I already own the Gamma SL Hoody and the Gamma LT jacket (without hood). Recently ordered the Gamma LT Hoody, but to my surprise it is smaller around the waist than both the SL Hoody and LT Jacket. All are size XL. Arcteryx website specify the Gamma LT Hoody as a regular fit, and Gamma SL Hoody as a trim fit. I assumed the LT would be a little roomier compared to the SL, not the opposite.

the perfect softshell

Hesitated for years to buy this, couldn't think where it would excel over the MX in poor weather and the Squamish at all other times (except rain obviously).. I now think it is the best softshell I have ever owned. Had it out in over 20 days, in all winter weather, ice climbing and mountaineering. Fit is spot-on, long cut stays put in my harness and covers really low in the back. The hood is amazing over a helmet, and the stiffer fabric keeps the hood in place and there is no flapping about anywhere in the jacket. Due to the breathability and the allowance of some wind to get through, I can wear this with a medium/light weight fleece, for a 2 hour slog in, a 6 hour climb up, and a 3 hour walk back out; layering over with a Atom gilet or the Nuclei FL - I can't do that with anything else without overheating or getting too cold. Wearing an Atom under would defeat the purpose I think; paired with a traditional fleece, this is the best combo I have ever worn. The only thing worth mentioning is that due to the well shaped and fitted cuff having no adjustment, and for ice-climbing only: I need to wear a longer glove/gauntlet to stop debris going down my sleeve... but these sleeves are long and there is zero movement with arms lifted, so it is a minor issue even with short gloves. I am 185cm, 80kg and the medium is perfect, it is definitely trim, but a Large would probably bellow on me and obscure my harness. The Fluidity colour is great and looks bright and eye-catching. This is now my first choice for absolutely everything, non-rain, except maybe hot summer alpine .
Q: Pros:
A: long cut. stays in harness. hood
Q: Cons:
A: none
Q: Activity
A: climbing. alpine. mountaineering.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Scratchy

I am obsessed with the gamma non-LT version…was my go-to all winter (Vanc). I was so excited to get the LT version for sprig/fall. The problem was the inside has no lining. So it’s scratchy on the skin. I would not be able to wear with a T-shirt, which limits its use.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Amazing for Backcountry Hiking/Skiing

Ok, I’ve had more than a few days out with this bad boy. This is hands down the best hiking jacket I’ve ever worn. Mostly uphills in anywhere from 500-4500 vert. It sheds sweat like no other (I run hot), yet is surprisingly warm and wind proof. It will keep you comfortable in temps 20-30 degrees with movement. I did a 5 hour tour in it last week in those general temps, and was comfy the whole time until the end of the tour w a fast cold downhill, in which I busted out my Atom LT for some layering insulation for the last half hour. Quite the combo indeed. Haven’t climbed rock or ice w it yet, but I’m sure it always has a spot in my quiver for those activities. If you live in drier conditions IE Wasatch backcountry, desert, and intercontinental mountains with no worries of precip with wind, this amazing jacket will treat you nicely. Skinning/hiking in not bitter cold temps with a single base layer top under the Gamma LT does the trick for me. Quite impressive. I’m 6 foot 170 lbs currently, and medium fits amazing.
Q: Pros:
A: Breathability, amazingly wind proof
Q: Cons:
A: None
Q: Activity
A: Backcountry Skiing, Rock/Alpine Climbing

It's the small things

The zippers! May sound small, but this jacket has the smoothest zippers of any soft shell jacket I have ever owned. When wearing a pack or harness it makes a difference to not be struggling with the main or pocket zippers. The side pockets are also at the right height to be easily accessible. Everything else about it is good as expected: very breathable and a good amount of stretch. Perfect layer.

Great versatile lightweight soft-shell. used it for hiking, running, football training you name it hasn't felt out of place once. Good in light showers but worth bringing a totally waterproof shell if you're expecting heavy rain because after a while it gives in. Not complaining though.

I have been using this jacket for a couple months now and it is perfect for layering. A very loose but perfect fit to block any wind from entering. The only problem I would say is that the zip up towards my neck is often too large and goes up to my face rather to my neck.
Q: Pros:
A: Loose fit, layering properties
Q: Cons:
A: Zip up from neck is large
Q: Activity
A: Cycling

Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice and simple!

I needed a nice and simple jacket that I could use for fall and spring, and after a lot of reviews on line, I decided on the Gamma LT Hoody. When I first got it, I was a little surprised by how light and thin it was. But once I put it on, it felt great! The material is a lot tougher than I initially thought, and it fits fairly slim. For reference, I am 6'1", 175lbs and a 32" waist, with a 41.5" chest. The size large fits well on me. The sleeves and the overall length of the jacket are a bit long, but I like this particular cut. The jacket length comes almost covers my back side. I can also comfortably fit a light sweater, fleece or cotton hoody underneath if I wanted to use this during colder days. As some other reviewers noted, there is an inside pocket, but it is fairly small, and you wouldn't be able to fit most modern-sized smartphones in it. The 2 side hand pockets are higher, and they are very deep. So if you happen to forget to zip these pockets, you don't have to worry about your keys or change falling out. There is a nice stretchy feeling to the jacket, which is typical of a soft shell. I plan on wearing this on windy days and if it is slightly raining, I have no concerns. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase!
Q: Pros:
A: Simple, fitted, great material
Q: Cons:
A: Small inside pocket, a bit expensiv
Q: Activity
A: Hiking, walking the dog, heading to the store

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect!

Bought one that had been reduced as an impulse buy, turns out to be one of the best I’ve bought for scrambling etc and ended up buying another 2 in different colours. Fit is perfect for me, tight and just right to move around in and durable too. Recently cut a hard shell scrambling so this makes a perfect replacement. Great design and seems durable and built to last.
Q: Pros:
A: Build, quality, fit
Q: Cons:
A: Price!
Q: Activity
A: All round, hiking, scrambling and everyday wear

Yes, I recommend this product.
