Breathable enough for a wide range of temps

Absolutely love this jacket. I basically live in it from October - March so I'm buying two more so I can rotate the stock and get them in the wash periodically. It looks great and breathes so well that I can leave it on as I move throughout my day. Love the long, trim cut and long sleeves.

Did the sizing change ? Seems to be really long in the Torso, compared to all my other Arcteryx coats. Bummer, Arcteryx was my consistant go to for fit, but lately i've had to return all the newer models that i've ordered.

Hello there, thank you for your feedback! The Proton Hoody’s fit has been updated with a revised fit and sizing. While the Medium size remains unchanged, smaller sizes are now a bit tighter and larger sizes looser, which might explain the longer torso you’ve noticed. We understand how frustrating it can be when a trusted fit changes, and we’re sorry to hear this has impacted your experience. Your input is valuable, and we’ll share it with our team. If you’d like help finding an alternative that works better for you, feel free to reach out!

Perfect for those Mild Winters

I've been using this as an outer layer when I'm getting out of the car and getting ready for the skin up. It's warm enough as I'm pulling the boots on, slappin the skins to the skis and packing the backpack. If the approach is not too strenous, it's a great outer layer. Awesome mid-layer for them ice climbs. non-bulky insulation when moving on the ice. Although it is fitted, I don't have any issues with movement when swinging my tools. As a belayer, you'd prob want something warmer but that's what belay jackets are for eh! Also a great layer post-run to keep warm but not overheat when you're cooling down. Super versatile, stylish and just outright sweet on those mild winter days. I'm 173cm, medium build. Small fits with a baselayer but wouldn't stash anything else underneath. Can bunch above the harness if your waists are a bit on the wider side.

Don’t buy

I have the lightweight version of this jacket and it’s absolutely terrible. Whenever I wear it the bottom half of the jacket always rotates to the right. Even during a walk around the neighborhood the bottom of the jackets twist. I’m very disappointed with this jacket and would not recommend it.

Great Revision; Chicago store sent without tags?

This fits me much better than the 2019 version. I like that doesn’t cut into my armpit so much and I can actually get a mid layer under it if I want to. The stitched logos are an improvement to the heat pressed ones. The inside is softer, which makes it more comfortable on the skin, and it still breathes, as well as the older version. Maybe even slightly better The hood still fits great and accommodates A helmet But you’re not gonna be able to get a ski helmet under it. The cuffs are great as per usual as is the drop hem in the back. My only issue with my order is that it was sent without tags from a Chicago store and the pockets are unzipped. I still need to look it over to make sure it hasn’t been pre-worn and that it doesn’t have any holes in it. If I need to return it due to defects and can’t because there’s no tags on it, I’m gonna be very upset! Hopefully, that doesn’t happen.

Favorite Jacket for Climbing and Beyond

The Proton has quickly become one of my favorite jackets from Arc'teryx. In some ways, the proton feels like a higher end version of the classic Atom jacket (which I love and is still one of my favorites). The material on the proton feels softer than the atom and provides really nice next to skin comfort. It also feels as though it has a little more stretch to it which has been great for climbing. It fits under a harness quite comfortably as well and doesnt pull up when reaching over head. The back side of the jacket hangs a littler lower too which i have found to be nice when wearing a harness. It fits a littler larger than other comparable jackets from Arc but it allows me to layer really comfortably with a fleece underneath like the delta. The proton seems to have a perfect blend of breathability and warmth without much compromise on either end. One seemingly underrated aspect of this jacket is the wrist cuffs. They did a great job adding a wide elastic band in the wrists which tapers well and allows you to slide up the sleeves easily but still creates a good seal at the wrists. The hood also fits well with a helmet on. Lastly, I've been really impressed with the durability of this jacket. I wore it everyday for a week while teaching a climbing course down in Joshua Tree and have zero pulled threads, holes, etc... The terrain down there can be quite unfriendly to clothing but the proton held up just fine. Great work with this garment! For reference, I'm 5'8 145lbs and the small fits very well.

Warm and breathable!

I use this as a heavyweight mid layer splitboarding on days colder than -15C. Any temps warmer than that and I find the jacket way too warm and switch to the LT version. I keep my beacon in a dedicated pant pocket, so having a chest pocket in any jacket for a phone is ideal.
