Excellent bridge for shifting alpine conditions

My ski touring and alpine climbing pack typically holds both a light shell like a Squamish and a burlier shell like the Alpha SV. This new hardshell is a candidate for replacing both and lightening my pack, especially late winter-spring. It's plenty light and thin to serve as a wind layer on windy ridges and in cold valleys, yet also durable and waterproof enough to be a trustworthy full hardshell when conditions call for it. As a dedicated, climbing specific hardshell, I might look to the Alpha or the Alpha SV, but as a versatile piece for multiple sports and a lightweight mindset, this shell has become the new go-to for me. I am a bit cautious in tight trees and when rubbing against featured rocks, as the material is quite thin for a hardshell, but it's also quite easy to patch and durable given the weight.

My new favorite shell

I got this shell on a whim after an Arc'teryx product guide suggested that I try it on. It's a super minimalist jacket, which is how they keep it so lightweight. There are no side pockets, but that doesn't bother me at all. The front zipper pocket is enough for how I use the jacket. The thing that really took me by surprise is how comfortable this shell is. It doesn't even feel like a shell. It feels more like the Atom with its flexibility and extremely light weight. This shell can be packed super tight to the point where you could fit it in a sling bag. During the rainy season, this is all I wore and it kept me perfectly dry. Can't recommend this jacket enough!

Superb for running and cycling as well

I bought this jacket initially for running in winter rain, prepping for the Vancouver marathon, because I was tired of having too little protection on one long run and too much on the next. It is supremely light, however it benefits from the long arms essential to climbing, has velcro at the cuffs, a pull cord at the bottom and has a Napoleon chest pocket. It's the ultimate running jacket - I literally couldn't imagine a single improvement. More recently, I've realized it's also a superb cycling jacket. While not as aero or durable as other jackets, I find myself reaching for it when I'm heading off on a longer bike tour or a bikepacking trip, due to its functionality when off the bike as well as its packability and visibility (I have the red version). Overall this is a superb cross-functional piece for running and cycling, in addition to alpine summit days.

Très très légère

Très très légère, c'est la principale qualité de cette veste imperméable. Je cherchais une veste très légère qui prend peu de place pour mes randos en montagne et j'ai osé. Oui le prix est élevé et je ne suis pas tranquille sur la durabilité de la veste. L'avenir me le dira, mais mes premiers tests ont confirmé qu'elle est au moins étanche même sous grosse pluie pendant une matinée. Les bretelles de mon sac à dos FL30 n'ont pas abimé la veste et j'espère que je vais la garder longtemps. La coupe "ajusté" est peu courante sur ce genre de veste, mais malgré mon embonpoint ça passe.

The Alpha FL was a hard shell to replace (no pun intended) but the new lightweight does the old FL justice. Great fit with harness and the arms are long so your sleeves remain tucked over/under your gloves while ice/mixed climbing. It packs super small but is durable enough for big alpine objectives, be it big summer rock routes or alpine climbs at altitude in the greater ranges. Some brighter colors would be nice!

Awesome layer for summer trips

I've used my Alpha Anorak for 3 seasons now and overall, it's been great. I'm an ACMG guide in the Yukon and this shell has been through the ringer. From wind, to rain and snow, it's been my go-to.
PROS:
- Lightweight and relatively compressible
- Enough rain protection for most situations.
- Very simple design.
CONS
- I have found that this jacket will wet-out in significant, prolonged rain. That being said, it will also dry almost instantly, so the trade-off it worth it for me.
- This jacket isn't great if you run into cold weather and you want to layer up underneath. With a puff jacket, the anorak is a hard design to get in and out of. Consider sizing up or going for a conventional jacket if you want to wear lots of layers underneath.
- The goretex is chock full of PFAS. For this reason, I will be replacing it in the near future.

The jacket fits perfectly and is exactly what you expect from it. Only problem i had was the grid pattern which you cant see in the pictures, if you dont want that i recommend buying one of the heavier jackets.
