Definite downgrade

Compared to the previous version this is definitely a step down in materials and fit. Fleece lining is now thinner and overall the material feels much cheaper. The jacket now lacks that premium comfortable feel I loved about my prior Gamma MX. Although Arcteryx claim the fit in the medium is unchanged, after trying on my old version and this one, the revised version is not as fitted through the body, unfortunately. Overall, I'm quite disappointed, as I've owned 5 of the hooded and non-hooded MX jackets over time. All this on top of the fact that it costs 30% more than the previous one. It looks like I'm going to have to start searching for an alternative soft-shell for daily use.

Ever so Slightly larger than previous iteration

At 6’ 205lbs the Large fits perfectly. The previous iteration was too narrow in the shoulders and looked a little off on me. But of course the XL was too big for me.
It seems that I’m one of the few people who think the new revisions fit better. I am by no means overweight. I’m muscular and athletic. I’m constantly biking, hiking, and climbing.
This jacket is perfect for those things as well as a day to day jacket. I still wish it had the old cuffs from 2017. These glued cuffs with the bunched up elastic aren’t the most comfortable but at least they made them a little wider this time. The 2020 version used to get stuck on my wrists all the time.
Overall a good revision.

J'utilise cette veste principalement en randonnée et ski de randonnée. Elle protège parfaitement contre le vent et le froid avec une première couche en lainage et/ou une polaire fine pour l'essenteil des conditions d'hiver en France. Les quatre poches sont pratiques, permettent de prendre l'essentiel. Résiste bien au lavage. Le prix est un peu élevé mais la qualité est au rendez-vous, le design aussi.
La taill eM est parfaite pour mon gabarit 1.75 / 78 kgs

Une veste super… mais pourquoi faut-il que les tailles changent tout le temps ? J’ai toujours pris taille S, parfaite. Mais celle-ci en S est digne d’une XS !
Et ce n’est pas le premier modèle dont la taille change sans avertissement…
Je vais en être quitte pour la retourner et en racheter une autre. Pas pratique…

Dieses ist bereits meine zweite Gamma MX, da mir die erste zu klein geworden war. Die Passform und Funktionalität dieser Jacke sind einfach nur großartig. Die Taschen lassen sich sehr gut nutzen und das Tragegefühl ist weich und luftig. Ob beim Radfahren, Gleitschirmfliegen oder ganz einfach im Alltag; für mich gibt es keine bessere Jacke!

Nice jacket, selection leaves some to be desired.

I had a Venta AR jacket for a decade that I LOVED, but over time parts of it degraded with stitching coming undone. In looking for a replacement, it seemed like the Gamma MX was the closest thing Arc'teryx currently offers.
The jacket is nice enough, though the fit for a large is a bit tight in the sleeves (especially the forearms) and it's tough to layer under it since longer sleeves underneath bunch up.
I held off for a long time on ordering one, though, as the selection was pretty limited in terms of colors/sizes. Looking online, it seems like Arc'teryx has a long-standing problem with stock of this model. My need for a jacket finally overcame my patience on waiting for a preferred color, though.
In the end, I'm reasonably happy with it but don't love it like I did the Venta.

I've been wearing Gamma MX jackets for the past 16 years for climbing, alpine touring, hiking, wilderness paddling and even mountain biking in colder terrain. Over that period of time I've had three, two of which are still in excellent shape. Durable, versatile and well fitting - I'm not sure how I did without one for so long.

Great bike commuting jacket

I bought it for bike commuting in Saskatoon. Very impressed so far. I wear one wool short sleeved t-shirt as a base layer and the jacket is comfy around 0 C. You can open the two chest pockets and hand pockets to increase ventilation with a tail wind or when it is warmer, which is a nice touch. There is also a fair bit of wind blockage, which I appreciate. So far I have been using it for about three weeks, but anticipate using it the whole winter.

Great jacket

I owned an Arc'teryx Venta AR jacket for more than 10 years. It was my favorite jacket for all around outdoor activities. Arc'teryx staff suggested this as a replacement. It is similar but improved. Light with a bit of fleece, water resistant, windproof and the best jacket I ever had.

Pockets don't work well with modern phones

As the other reviews say, this is a decent average soft shell for urban / casual use. I like the cuff design. There is no velcro to fuss with, but a cleverly shaped convexity helps keep air out, especially when wearing gloves.
The problem is that the chest pockets are a very tight fit for a typical larger phone. I have an iPhone 14+ with a slim leather case. It went in easily enough at the store, but it can be an awkward struggle to get it in when I am outdoors or in a hurry. I have jackets from other quality brands that get this right. It seems strange that Arc'teryx designers would ignore this basic requirement of modern life.

This is my 2nd Gamma MX jacket, I still have my 1st one which has seen many 100s of days, it is still really functional and I will continue to use it as more of a work jacket. I can't wait to get a few days in the new version. Good work Arc'teryx.

Great jacket

I got it for my ski trip to Alps. It was a great mid layer with shell over it. As a stand alone jacket it performed well in windy, 30F degree weather with warm layers underneath.
I see what other reviewers complain about the sleeve lengths and how tight it is, they are little long (bunched at the wrist) and need some “force” to get the hand through, but not detrimental to the high quality of the jacket. It performs well in 40F-50F weather to just walk around town. Also, great for travel with its 4 pockets.

Recently just picked up this up from the only store in Los Angeles when shopping for some Christmas gifts. For 299, not only do you get the signature arc’teryx quality, but the weight is what surprised me more than anything. Inside, you feel almost double layered with how heavy but still comfortable for your day to day. Living in California, these type of jackets work perfect to keep my body warm during these chilly nights. I would highly recommend this jacket whether an every day jacket or just something nice at night. I’m 6’2” 210 lbs and this fit just right. Hope to see more people wearing arc’teryx!!

An older GoreTex Windproof version was stolen and difficult to find a replacement without a hood.

Perfect everyday jacket

I like using the gamma mx as an everyday jacket as well as use it for business travel (it looks very clean cut). It packs up small and I don't think it will lose its warmth over time like packing a synthetic insulated jacket would.
The outer fabric feels super tough while also being soft and stretchy. The interior fleece is soft as well.
I didnt love the wrist cuffs at first, but you get used to them being fitted instead of full elastic like Proton LT.
The fit of the jacket is perfect for me. I am 6' , 36 waist, 44' chest size. Some reviewers say it fits boxy, but I think it is just a regular fit.

Great jacket,

I have had 3 of these jackets. Great Style. I think the first generation I owned was a bit more bullet proof. I wear daily in late fall and winter. The last one I owned had production problems. Hand pocket came unseamed. However, pretty bomb-proof jacket. I've wrecked my bike on pavement, Unscathed. Bushwhacking-Unscathed. Warmth-Nice. Water resistance is good. We will see about my third generation.

Excellent Wind and Light Rain Protection

Nice softshell exterior and warm fleece interior. Perfect for dreary edge-weather days where slightly chilly air and dampness meet. Keeps the wind and rain at bay and provides enough warmth on the days that heavier insulation is not needed.

Amazing quality | Tight around the underarm

Bought the AR in black, was impressed with the fit and finish. It looked amazing and slimming on. However the underarms were too tight for me. Tried to layer with a atom LT underneath as I have been hearing much about that specific combo for warmth and I couldn't move my arms. I'm all for fitted however the underarms were just to restrained even with just a shirt underneath. As much as I wanted to keep this as a casual\office piece it was just to tight for me. I returned it. I will say the crisp lines, and material is exactly what I was looking for. It was nice and thick with the fleece backing.
