This jacket is my ideal all season jacket. I wear mine while I am shredding the slopes at the ski resort. As well as, I use this jacket for hiking in the summer/ spring. I like how the jacket is not too heavy but also quite durable. I like how the top layer is more durable then the botton and how the bottom is more breathable.

I've had this jacket for about 2 years and its served me well hiking, skiing, and bushwhacking in all types of weather. The pockets have good placement, the hood is a great size and adjustable, the cuffs aren't bulky and the sleeves are a great length. The hem is slightly short for skiing, but as an all around jacket its fine. The fit is roomy enough for layering underneath while not being too big on its own. My only complaint is the detached collar: I find its too bulky and is a nuisance with my midlayer hoods, especially when I wear a down jacket underneath. I'd much prefer a collar that is part of the hood, like the Alpha jackets.

My partner offered me the Beta AR two years ago as a do-it-all jacket I could use for every season. Hands down the best jacket I've ever had! I've used it in all conditions, from summer hikes in the rockies to ski touring in winter and it does the job every time! It's waterproof, durable, blocks the wind very efficiently and I add the Atom LT jacket to keep me warm during fall and winter activities!

I have owned my Beta AR for 2 years and it has been a staple of my expeditions, ski trips, hikes and even of my walks in the city on a rainy day. It breathes well for a jacket this thick while still being 100% waterproof and windproof. Paired with a cerium LT down jacket, it is sufficient for use as a winter jacket in Quebec. My only little comment is that since the hood is meant to go over a helmet, it falls too low when not wearing one. If I want to use the hood without one, I need to wear a cap or not see where I am heading.

I bought the jacket 5 years ago, the Jacket accompanied with me to several times of outdoors atctivies. No matter windy,snowy or rainy day, it can help you overcame both of them and support me to reaching my full potential. I highly recommend the Jacket for you.

I am very pleased with this light alround Jacket. It is rain and wind-proof, looks elegant for use in the mountains as well as in the city. The pockets and positioning are perfect for everything I need, but the fit and cutlines of the pattern-cutting are outstanding. The generous length of the arms is great. Love the combination of functionality and design.

Just a homeschooling mom with active kids and we basically live outdoors. I’ve had a beta AR for years and years and it still looks new and works like New. I use it wherever I travel as it’s compact light

I owned the predecessor to the Beta AR, called the Theta AR which I loved until it wore out after several years of frequent use. I've had the Beta since January 2022 and used it for XC skiing and hiking in the rain. The material is stiff, as are the zippers, the hood is huge (even if one were going to wear it over a climbing helmet), the side pockets are placed so low that you must undo the waist belt of your pack anytime to want to access the pockets (not a problem with the Theta model that had pockets placed higher), the sleeves are ridiculously long even for my 5'9" frame. I purchased a large because of my height and need to add warmer layers underneath (I live in Alaska), and the large is HUGE! Very disappointed, given the price. I have returned it to REI.

Ich habe die Jacke im Dezember 2021 gekauft und bereits im April 2022 musste ich sie zur Reparatur einschicken. Beworben und angepriesen wird die Jacke als "leistungsfähig" mit "maximaler Robustheit" und "maximaler Strapazierfähigkeit und Produktlebensdauer" bei Einsatz im alpinen Gelände. Ein Loch im Bereich des Kordelzugs / am Saum nach nur 2 Einsätzen im Ski Alpin (5 Monate nach Kauf) widerspricht der Produktbeschreibung/-qualität leider vollends. Des Weiteren gestaltete sich das Verfahren bis zur Reparatur schwierig. Keine Kulanz, langwieriger Email-Verkehr, Reparatur nur möglich mit Flicken in anderer Farbe ... 5 Monate nach Einsendung befindet sich die Jacke immer noch bei der Firma Arcteryx (Stand: August 2022). Bei weiterem Gebrauch werde ich in Zukunft, nach weiteren aufwendigen Reparaturen, einen bunten Flickenteppich tragen. Eine Lebensdauer von 10 Jahren ist dann auch gut möglich, wenn die Jacke einmal pro Jahr für 5 Monate zur Reparatur zu Arcteryx muss! Würde ich die Jacke zurückgeben, wenn dies möglich wäre: Klares JA. Keine Kaufempfehlung.

I've had two of these jackets (one I bought in 2017, one that got replaced under warranty in 2019). Both of them started wetting out frequently despite following the specific care instructions for washing/drying the jacket and spraying with DWR spray. They also started coming apart near the shoulder area (2 layers of the jacket separating). Once they wet out, they take forever to dry! I was told my jacket can't be replaced under warranty a second time, which is fair, but I'd expect better performance from such an expensive jacket, especially when I don't use it for super intense activities. I use it for light cycle commuting in the city as well as day hikes in the mountains when I'm on vacation. It’s frustrating that these jackets (that cost a significant amount) require such frequent high maintenance care to continue working well (or unfortunately not so well, as has been my experience). I’ve spoken with people who have other brands of gore-Tex outer layers who say their gear maintains the waterproofing with much less care and washing than I’ve put into my beta AR. Especially after the first one having similar issues, I washed and sprayed my second one religiously, likely every 10-15 uses. And I rarely use it for any heavy activities- it’s never gotten properly dirty or sweaty because I wash it so often. I hope arc’teryx can use this feedback to improve its gear so issues like this no longer happen.

I loved this jacket for five years. And then the zipper broke. I contacted customer service and was told they wouldn’t replace it. I expected better durability from an Arcteryx product.

Compare with ALPHA AR JACKET I like Beta AR design better, especially the design of the two front pockets. I was trying to get a better color (red-bright) and was wating for a long time. But Custom Service told me that the new color would not come until in Dec. So finally, I selected the pinkish purple color since I need a replacement for my old Beta AR jacket for this season.

This is my must-have jacket for hiking, backpacking and mountain climbing. Don't let its light weight fool you! This Gore-Tex jacket is the perfect shell for all weather: rain, snow and wind. I've taken these jackets to ski resorts, local hikes and longer trips such as Mt. Whitney, Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro, where I have encountered four seasons in a day! The Beta AR has always delivered. This jacket has kept me dry while also fitting perfectly. I really like the hood that comes with this jacket. It keeps the water and wind off my face really well. I also like that the cuffs are adjustable. I have pretty small wrists, so I appreciate that this feature exists. I appreciate the construction of this, and how they were mindful to create a jacket that fit well, but also came with practical features, such as the chin guard, pockets and zippers. And, I love the color options! I will be bringing this jacket on upcoming climbs, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to venture out into the elements. It has been my go-to outer shell for years, and hasn't let me down once. Make sure to take care of it, as it will last longer if you do. I try to wash mine after a good 10 uses. I've had a few of these (yes I have more than one!) for years, and they still hold up. It's also super easy to pack when I'm not using it, and doesn't take up a lot of room in my backpack. That's a huge plus, because I like to pack as light as I can. I highly recommend this jacket. It's great for so many activities!

I just got this jacket this winter and wore it all winter and into the spring! Great in colder weather with my Cerium LT layered underneath or just a fleece in warmer weather and for higher out put activities. I wore this jacket doing lots of bush whacking and the fabric is very strong and resistant to abrasions. The thicker gore-tex is also nice for extra protection from the elements in the winter. Lots of room for layers underneath and the space around the shoulders allows for a wide range of mobility. Overall, this jacket has kept me nice and dry on super snowy and wet days! It also gives great protection from the wind.

I shopped around for a Gortex shell to invest in. I chose the Beta specifically for the collar, so please keep it! It's great for keeping out the elements with the hood down. My only complaint is the sizing. I am between xs and small, opted for the small for layering. The shoulders in both sizes seemed to have too much fabric. Some reviews said the jacket wore better after some use, I still find it an issue still. I have broad shoulders and even with layers underneath there is still extra fabric that bunches up in the shoulder area. For the price point, I want it to fit amazing which is why I give it four stars. I'm also not a fan of the colour scheme these days, bring back vibrant mountain colours! Also shout out to Arcteryx customer service, it's a big factor when deciding on Arcteryx so keep up the good work!

I bought the jacket for my girlfriend about 2 years and 4 months ago. The jacket was intended for bad weather in the mountains and not for everyday use. Due to corona, there weren't many tours at first, because we couldn't go abroad. Now she used the jacket for 20-25 days. delamination occurred on both arms. So the jacket was sent to Switzerland for 30 euros postage. the mere fact that the parcels are sent to switzerland is already a small study of customs for the sender. I got the answer that the jacket was worn, no repairs. we would not have cared for the jacket properly. The jacket has been well cared for and not often used. I am extremely dissatisfied when a high-end product shows defects after such a short time and use. The products have too short a lifespan in the price segment. Two jackets for almost 1380 euros together are gone after about 2 years. I have a lot of other clothes, but I have the biggest problems with the two top products.

Best jacket I ever had - loved the fit and functionality for biking and the annual skiing trip. Really sad it only lasts 2-3 years as the layers are now peeling and waterproofness is gone. I expected more from Arcteryx making the most expensive jackets in the business. Great functionality but not made to last - even just with mild use.

I bought the BETA AR Jacket and I am very please with the fit and feel of it! I was surprised how different the colour was from the original website picture. I got the Kingfisher orange and the coat I received is a lot more of a light brown than orange. I expected a different tone but not a different colour.

This was my first Arc'teryx jacket purchased brand new, intended for hiking and skiing. It has held up well in the pouring rain while hiking and kept me dry. For skiing, I pair it with my Atom LT hoody, which I find isn't enough to keep me warm at all in below 30 degrees, but that's just the cost of it being a shell. For the high price, I was expecting this jacket to be amazing. But the fitting and limited color options has kept me from loving this jacket. As a petite woman, it's very difficult to find a jacket that fits well and this didn't. The sleeves and length are way too long (for reference I am 4'11 and 105lbs). This jacket looks like it's swallowing me. I can only hope that Arcteryx will offer XXS eventually. I want to love this jacket, but it's not made for petite sizes. Unfortunately I will be keeping this since it's past the return policy.

I’ve been meaning to replace an Arc’teryx hard shell I bought 8 years ago for the last few seasons. I’ve been waiting for an all round hard shell I can throw on for a day of skiing or hiking in the mountains and be protected if the weather changes. This jacket almost get there, but my face is exposed and gets wet/cold/wind burnt. I don’t understand the utility of a 3L gortex jacket that doesn’t protect you in a storm. This is an overpriced rain jacket. This is what I would need to buy another arcteryx jacket: - cut and fit of the beta AR (the beta SV has huge arms that get in the way) - storm hood - chest pocket - normal front pockets (not the alpha pockets) - no powder skirt - bonus points if you bring back the beautiful berry colours - has something with sizing changed? It seems like all the jackets have suddenly gotten boxy with broad shoulders. I liked the older cuts for slim, athletic builds

On m’a offert cette veste pour mes 30 ans ! C’est une catastrophe, cela fait tt juste un ans que je l utilisé en cas de pluie . Des mes premières sorties elle n’était pas vraiment imperméable de plus l’eau fait des taches sur le tissus ! C’est un inacceptables vue le pris l’année dernière 800 ou 900 euros pour ça !

Decided to take the plunge on this jacket before the hiking the Inca Trail and it was the best decision I made. The pit zips were my ultimate savour as it reduced the heat but still gave me the waterproof shell for when you’re above the clouds hiking up the stairs. My Cerium puffer and base layers fit well under and my trekking group was very jealous and even took turns trying it out!
