Great Lightweight Jacket

I was looking for an ultra lightweight windbreaker and tried some other popular contenders but the fit was boxy and just didn't appeal to me. Given I have loved every other Arc'teryx product I have I figured I couldn't go wrong with this choice, and I was right. I'm a slim-ish 6'2" and take a large in every other Arc'teryx jacket and this was no different. Fit is spot on and, as usual, arms are a perfect length for me which is often an issue with most brands except for this one. Fit leaves some room for airflow (but not baggy) if using for more active days with a t-shirt or thin base layer underneath but still allows for a thicker base layer or fleece if just heading out for a casual walk in cooler temps. Hood works extremely well and the adjustments allow for a really dialed in fit. Packs down really small so there is really no reason for this jacket to not go with you on any adventure where you will need some wind and/or light rain protection. I ordered the Ladon colour thinking it was blue based on the pictures on the website but be warned, it is very much green in person.

Great all-round hoody

I own 2 of these and wear them ALL the time... It's likely my most versatile and underrated pieces as you can layer with it in cooler temps or it's light enough to wear solo during windy / (light) rainy days in the spring, summer, or fall. I will state that this jacket IS NOT built as a rain jacket, but will help to keep you dry in a very light rain for a short period of time as most jackets will eventually wet out regardless. I purchased my first one in 2014 which is a previous model. I love the jacket and noticed some changes to the current model and decided to add a second. So, a few months ago I purchased the updated model in the color Hyperspace....and when I received it, I absolutely hated it. The color seemed totally off from what I seen online and I couldn't help but notice how transparent the hoody appeared. I tried to overlook the color and appearance and move onto the updated features... I immediately noticed the hood interior was larger, jacket length was longer, and the pulls were different as well as the cuffs. I honestly disliked every one of these changes in comparison.. Even with all of this in mind, I wanted to try a different color to see if that could ease my concerns since I couldn't see past it. I sent back the Hyperspace and purchased the color Labyrinth. Once again, the color was way different in person... Online, the color appeared more of a blueish-green. In person, the color was closer to a forrest green. However, I love the color even more so than what I thought it was, so I'm more than happy there. Not to mention, the transparency factor was no longer there... I suppose it was just the Hyperspace color (as I haven't personally seen the rest). I liked the hoody MUCH more from an initial standpoint and soon the changes made vs my previous model were no longer so relevant. In fact, I like the changes... the slightly longer length is helpful if layering, the updated design doesn't "bunch" in the center on the zipper as bad as the previous model, and the new cuffs don't get in the way or bother me that they're not longer adjustable. The hood hasn't bothered me (yet) in a real life scenario, but I also don't use it often. I still don't like the zipper pulls.. at all. And even though the zipper doesn't slip nearly as much as the previous model, the new zipper stops constantly tend to catch when you're actually trying to zip or unzip the hoody and is very annoying. Otherwise, I'm completely satisfied with the updated model and very happy with the Labyrinth color.

Perfect for light jog and nice fit

I bought the Squamish jacket for it's versatility. It worked well for light jogging in the cold mornings, walking the dog in the hot afternoon (great sun protection), and rock climbing shenanigans. I have tested this in 40-80F degrees weather in Southern California area. If you're running hard, you'll probably have to draw the zipper down half way or all the way. The jacket feels almost weightless, fabric is slightly stretchy, and the fit is excellent. I got a small (5 ft 7in average slim body). Yes, there are cheaper alternatives on the market but the attention to the small details on this product puts this jacket on the top of it's class. As a minimalist, I rather pay more to have one incredible jacket than two mediocre ones. I absolutely love the Ignite color!
Q: Pros:
A: Versatile, well crafted, fit, color
Q: Cons:
A: Expensive

A: Running, hiking, walking, rock climbing

Use on motorcycle

In case I fall while I'm riding in the street, I use body-armor in my motorcycle jackets. (Unfortunately, if you ride enough, everyone's gonna need that protection, eventually.) A leather jacket is always your best option. But if you're going on a long motorcycle trip, an armored leather jacket might not be the best choice - it adds a lot of bulk to the body (wind-drag), it can waste valuable space in a saddle-bag when its too hot to wear leather, and it can get soaked in the rain. Instead, I take along a "textile" jacket - perforated enough to stay cool, yet strong enough for the inevitable asphalt slide. But textile jackets can get cold. On longer rides, odds are I will need to cover up, eventually. Perforation can lead to a quick case of wind-chill - maybe because you go from a hot, dry environment to a cold one (or better yet, to a cold, wet one), and the last thing you want to do is grab some enormous jacket that's going to weigh you down and beat you up in the wind. Conditions WILL change...and it can happen really fast, Enter the Squamish. For me, it means a whole new layering strategy, one I discovered out of desperation. At speed, wind-chill can make a 70*F day feel like it's 50*. I was riding in Glacier National Park in the late afternoon and I ran into a day like this...sudden rain front, getting cold, and getting dark. (Bonehead planning on my part.) Tons of cars, with tons of spray. Not fun. Pulling over, still in spray range, I began digging through my backpack for something...anything to get me warm. There, I found a tiny wad of forgotten wind-shell hiding at the bottom, probably left over from some windy day at the beach. In panic, I tried to pull it over everything, struggling to see through the foggy face-shield of my helmet. So I just gave up, dropped my huge textile jacket on the ground, stripped out of my wet cotton tee, threw on the base layer I always carry for safety (probably an old Rho), and picked up my jacket - where else was I gonna wear the windshell? As I began to accelerate, merging into a speeding chain of cars, it was at this moment that I discovered how accidentally effective my choices turned out to be. Instant wind-cutter. I was able to get warm. I could ride safely again. It works in warmer rain, too, because the shell dries really fast when wind hits it. So it went under my protection, and that's where it does so well when I ride, because it's thin, breathable, and it doesn't get too hot,
Q: Pros:
A: Blocks wind; no sweating
Q: Activity
A: motorcycle riding, sailing, beach volleyball, backup layer stays in pack

One of the most versatile shells out there

I've had my Squamish for a couple months now, and it has been one of the best jackets I've ever own. As someone who lives in Central Coast of California, this piece is perfect for breezy sunny days. It is not meant to insulate but will protect you from wind and from the sun. I like to use it a chill around town or as an active piece when cycling or climbing. I have yet to see any tears or damage from rubbing it against the rock. It fits well under a hydration vest or a harness and overall feels nice on bare skin. Not constrictive over other clothing, like long sleeves. My favorite part is that it stuffs into its own pocket.

Changed the fit

I have two. The first one I bought a couple of years ago, fits great, and I use it all the time. The second one I just bought in the same size from the factory store in North Vancouver, and it no longer has a slim athletic fit. It's very baggy and not good for mountain biking, fitting under a harness, running, etc. I no longer would recommend this.
Q: Activity
A: Mountain biking, climbing, hiking, trail running

No, I do not recommend this product.

Essential shell jacket

The Squamish men’s hoody is a must have for the outdoors enthusiast. The fit is well proportioned with a slim but not tight feel, and the fabric is a lovely mix of slight stretch, resilience, and softness next-to-skin. The Tyono 30 fabric is not heavy and has no irritation after all day wear, with a technical or just cotton tshirt as a first layer. The scuba-ish hood with no cavernous interior is just right - ideal fit and a nice formable brim. Cuffs are perfect and hem is right where you like it. No hand pockets but who cares; this is not a late fall/early spring shell. Would not be without this Squamish during the summer. Essential!
Q: Pros:

Q: Cons:

This jacket is killer!

I owned the previous version of this jacket and I loved it so I decided to purchase this jacket and I have to say I wasn't disappointed! This jacket is amazing in fact I'm sad to see the weather turn and I'm already looking forward to wearing it in the spring. It's my running, fishing and everything else jacket. Do yourself a favor and get this jacket. It fits great and everything about this jacket is perfect. I purchased both a large for running and an Extra Large for fishing (more layers)

Perfect summer jacket

Very good wind jacket for summer. Extremely lightweight, but impressed with how well this jacket actually perform. Nice slim fit as well. Used it for summer skiing on a glacier and it cut the wind perfect. Mostly used it for hiking and mountain biking. Have tested this jacket in rain. Went for a hour long walk in light rain with this jacket, and it kept me dry. However in more heavy rain this jacket will not hold up.

Penny-Pinching Quality

I have several Arcteryx products and expected this shell to be as good as previous purchase- NOT THE CASE! Firstly; the elaticated cuffs are so cheap and of such an ordinary design, I'm struggling to understand why they aren't the semi-fabric, lightly elasticated design as other , previous Arcteryx shells? To my total disbelief; there is zero ventilation under the arms which, again, previous similar jackets have Had? The feel,of the overall jacket is one of cheapness and very basic design and I will be returning the item for a refund. BTW, the fit is way larger than previous items too.

Customer Support
Hello Rich, Thank you for reaching out with your feedback on the Squamish Hoody for men. The Squamish hoody is an Arc’teryx windshell built for mild, but shifting, conditions. It uses a Tyono™ 30 denier shell with DWR treatment on the outer face and will be more trim-fitting than some of our other pieces. This will be just one offering of many shells in our current line up, and we encourage you to browse our entire collection: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/c/mens/shell-jackets/ Ventilation under the arms will still be featured in many of our products, namely the Alpha, Beta, and Zeta line of Gore-Tex shells. We're sorry this did not live up to your expectations, but if you have any other comments or concerns or would like help searching through our catalog, please be sure to give our Customer Support Line a call. We'd be happy to chat. All the best.

Great all around jacket for spring, summer, and fall!

I received the Squamish jacket as a gift in the size Large, it was a little too fitted on me mostly tight on my arms, I am 200lbs 5’11”. I originally wanted this jacket for hiking, camping, trail running, walking the dogs, and just as a general windbreaker. When I first received the jacket I was worried with how thin and light it was, but after exchanging it for a size up to the XL it felt so comfortable. The first day I tried it out I was walking my dogs in the mountains, the weather was rapidly changing as usual from a hot sunny day, to showers, some hail, to high winds, and back to sunny. I was so impressed how the jacket held up in the changing weather conditions, I was never cold, no wind got through, it repelled water and was very breathable even once the sun came out again I wasn’t sweaty or muggy. The jacket does feel thin and flimsy at first but it’s the perfect jacket to pack in your backpack for emergency’s, early morning hikes or walks, at the summit, or just everyday use in the spring summer and fall! Thanks Arcteryx for making such a cool functional jacket !!

Perfect Windbreaker

Absolutely loving the Squamish as a spring piece. I was in need of a windbreaker, and the Squamish breaks the wind and more! Light enough to run in on colder days, but heavy enough to keep the rain off for a bit if necessary. I often use it during morning walks while warming up. The fact that it stuffs into its own pocket means I bring it with me on most trips. I only wish it had hand pockets but its certainly not a deal breaker!

Excellent shell

The Squamish is, in my opinion, a very versatile shell. I purchased it as an exterior layer for days that I may require better wind-blocking for my Proton LT or fleece under-layer. For that purpose, it works wonderfully. The fit is definitely more athletic than regular, so if you are between sizes, and want to layer a few things underneath, you may want to go up on this one. The material is super light, but feels very durable. It will shed some rain in a pinch, but definitely provides good wind blocking. I have read some comments/reviews suggesting it doesn't breath as well as the previous generation of Squamish. While I can't compare specifically, I can say that I did not experience any breathability issues.

New fit is superb

The new fit of the Squamish is absolutely superb. I had one of the old design and, although it was a good jacket, I found the fit a bit too short and boxy. This new design is longer and slimmer through the body - but not at all restrictive. For me, it’s perfect. The hood design and little ‘speed bumps’ on the zip are brilliant - the hood always sits perfectly and the zip stays exactly where you want it. Very clever and works perfectly.

Love this jacket!

I had a hard time purchasing this jacket mainly because of the price but I decided to bite the bullet and I'm so happy I did. I'm normally a very warm running person and rarely need a jacket but when I go hiking I sometimes get a tad chilly in the more shady parts of my bike but any layer I ever had would make me start sweating but not with this jacket! I can wear this while being active or even while I am inside, it's perfect for the normally warm body. I can even be in direct sun without over heating. After my second day of wearing it my girlfriend even commented about how she hasn't seen me take it off for 2 days, even when we were inside our place! I also love the fact that it folds up in to its own pocket. You definitely get what you pay for with Arcteryx. This is a perfect addition to any collection

Match anything and supper light

My husband love the color "Labyrinth" very much, not too flamboyant and not too gloomy. The size L fits him very well, 5'10", 155lb. He almost wear it every day since he got it. Supper light. Whenever hiking or just take a walk, it is absolutely necessary.
