Terrible material, change back to the old one!

wanted to share my disappointment with the new material used in this year’s Atom Jacket. I’ve been a loyal customer and loved the previous versions—I even purchased two in different colors last year. They were incredibly soft, comfortable, and versatile throughout most of the year.
However, the new material feels noticeably cheaper. The moment you touch it, you can tell it has lost that silky, high-quality feel. Instead, it now has a texture that feels more like plastic, which is a stark contrast to what made the Atom Jacket so great.
I understand that you’ve switched to FO0 material and incorporated more recycled fabrics, which I appreciate from a sustainability standpoint. However, at a price point of £260, I expect a jacket to still feel premium and comfortable, regardless of the materials used.
I hope you take this feedback into account, as the change in fabric significantly impacts the overall experience of the product.

Better insulation needed if it's the flagship mode

So I had an Atom LT in the early 2000's, which is long gone now, and an Atom AR for the past 4-5 years. They were both fantastic aside from the zipper on the LT as it aged and the shallower pockets compared to other brands. Both faded a bit with usage and the AR got a good snag or two that I had sewed up. I decided it was time to replace my current AR since the Alpenglow colour caught my eye.
My thoughts for the current version are that the sizing is better for more layering underneath, the zip pockets are a bit better sized/deeper and the hood is a bit larger for helmets. However, I am disappointed with the chosen insulation thickness for the base model Atom. The AR is/was infinitely warmer. Even the LT, on which this seems to be based since it has the side panels, was warmer. My arms have been cold and it feels very thin. It really needs more loft. I thought they changed the insulation because the old stuff would pack down over the years and this newer insulation would maintain itself, but the salesperson told me that's not why they changed it. It seems less breathable - does anyone else concur? My husband has an SL and the revised Atom seems like a compromise between the former LT and SL. Compared to my The North Face Ventrix (3 or 4 years old), it is definitely leaner on the insulation, and heavier on the price point.
I haven't worn it enough to put it through its paces. haven't done anything high output to truly test the breathability. I haven't yet worn it on a blowing snow day or in rain. I am anticipating it will be a valuable piece in my arsenal through spring-summer-fall, just not in winter.

FWIW you might consider the Proton. I really recommend it; in my experience it is much better than the Atom in basically every way.

Baselayer, love it

I bought the jacket today on ski holidays, so I can‘t say anything about how warm/ isolating it is, but I can say I love the fabric, the color and the fit ( ok sleeves could definitely be a bit longer, but as I bought the jacket 1 size larger than I usually wear, also the length of the sleeves go better for me) I am quite tall with 1.75 and have quite an athletic body and wanted the fit not too right. I can‘t wait wearing it tomorrow on the slopes as a baselayer and in spring on the golf course!

The atom jacket is my go to jacket on colder days when I am engaging in outdoor activites such as hiking or running. It goes great as a midlayer under a shell jacket when snowboarding and always is able to keep me warm. It is definitely such a great staple.

New fit

Finally, a better fit again. The fit reminds me more of the Atom jackets from 6 to 8 years ago—more room in the shoulders and underarms. Very happy with this change. I do not know how the jacket wil hold up but I like that the dwr coating is pfas free. I do think the insulation seems tinner than 8 years ago.

Not as warm or water resistant as it used to be

I have a 2008 Atom Heavyweight jacket with no hood that I’ve been wanting to replace this year with a version with a hood.
My prior version feels slightly warmer and more water repellent, meaning that I don’t need to wear a shell over it as often, and I can wear it most of the winter in BC.
Please make it warmer and a bit more water repellent like it used to be. Also consider offering a warm long version.

Great insulation

Just got the atom this week, I've already worn it four times! It is ideal for a piece of insulation, and the updated fit is definitely noticeably better. My only qualm would be the sleeve cuffs are not as stretchy as I would prefer- other than that, amazing jacket.

Disappointing fit

I really want an atom jacket but after reading the reviews I decided to try it on in store before ordering. I am glad I did because the new fit is unflattering and has way too much space in the arms and shoulders. I have a small but athletic build and am 5'5", and this jacket did not flatter me at all. I am really hoping the old style comes back.

Odd fit

I just received this jacket in the mail today, I was hesitant to order this new version after reading the reviews but really liked the soulsonic color so I wanted to give it a try. I do like the color but found the fit to be odd. I've been buying the atom/atom LT since about 2013. With this one I found the hood to be very large but the thing that really stood out to me about this one vs the fit of the ones I've owned prior is that sleeves are very short. I put it on top of the one I bought last year and the sleeves are about a half inch shorter on this one and really ride up when I stretch out my arms. I'm 5'4 with a wing span equal to my height and I ordered this in an XS. Sizing up to a S would be too large in the shoulders. I like the color so I'm keeping it but it won't be my go to Atom for outdoor activities like climbing and cross country skiing. I really miss the older versions of this hoody. Primarily the ones from before 2017...?... I think.

Great jacket—love it so much!

This is a perfect jacket to wear over my wool base layers, sometimes under a warmer shell and sometimes as my outer layer. I’m obsessed w it. The fit is perfect and i especially love the turtleneck zipper and hood! So comfy and really cute.

New version is not an improvement

Agree with precious reviews, I ordered the atom having had a previous version. The new material is not soft like old one, it’s crinkly and feels thin and cheap. The insulation feels less. I will be retuning. Very disappointed.

The new Atom is a joke

I loved the old Atom jacket, have been using it for years as my primary jacket for everything (rock climbing, alpine, ski touring). That being said, the old one got pretty worn out, and I wanted an upgrade. I’m lucky enough to have an arcteryx local store where I live, so I could actually touch and try the new version. It’s just horrible. I’m not spending money on arcteryx until you guys start listening to unhappy customers. Just bring the old version back, it was perfect

Love this jacket

It is easily the jacket I wear the most. It works great as a standalone, with a fleece underneath on chillier days and I have used I t with down vests and underneath as an insulated layer on subzero days. I love this jacket and think it was a sensible investment that I hope lasts me a long time.

Epic disappointment

Your new and improved product lacks the elements that made my old version of the jacket a go to for fatbiking and XC skiing. The fabric is thin, too light and feels like it wouldn’t last a season. The hood isn’t compatible with a helmet. Overall the jacket looks and feels cheap despite the price! To top that off, your website has not been functioning properly for days! I went to a store to buy the jacket when your website repeated defaulted my location to another country (I’m in the US), would not take either of my perfectly good credit cards and would not accept upon selecting “submit” my inquiry to your help team on either of 2 different devices. In the end, the failure of your website saved me from buying and returning the product after I checked it out in person at local shop.

Nach länger Überlegung und Empfehlungen von Freunden habe ich mich für den Kauf eines Atom Hoodys entschieden. Leider musste ich nun feststellen, dass die Farben geändert wurden und kann meinen Vorredern nur beipflichten, dass diese so gar nicht gefallen.... Da die Optik einer Jacke neben der Funktion, ein wichtiges Kaufkriterium für mich ist, hoffe ich dass bald wieder die alten Farben in das Sortiment mit aufgenommen werden.

This jacket is fantastic! It’s ideal for Vancouver’s rainy days and provides warmth for winter. It's lightweight and perfect for layering. I own it in Soulsonic/Moonstone and couldn't be happier!

Too long, too thin, too delicate

I am (or... I was?) in love with Arc'teryx, I have several pants, shorts, inner layers and jackets, including two Atoms (one with a hood, one without) from 2018/2019. I have bought the new model because I wanted to add a new color to my Atom collection. Well, the new model is so different from the original one, in a bad way. Way longer than the old Atom and it makes it narrow on the hips and it does not fit under the Alpha AR (Atom is much longer than the Alpha now, the previous version was just perfect). Also, the coreloft insulation is noticeably thinner in the new Atom, this model won't protect you from the cold as well. And the outer shell seems to be so thin and delicate that I would really be worried to go in the nature wearing this jacket. I am returning this new Atom and won't be buying more unless Arc'teryx comes back with the quality that was there years ago.

Poor fabric quailty

Super disappointed in this product. So many people I know hyped up this product so much so after lots of debating I thought i would get it. I have had it for 2 weeks and and the material is very cheap. I brushed my arm against a door way and ripped a hole and now the stuffing is coming out. Was expecting much better quality for this price. I regret my purchase.

Love Everything About this Thoughtful Jacket

LOVE this jacket - perfect winter jacket in North Texas. Blocks wind really well while being lightweight. Able to move really well. Hood functions perfectly. Love everything about this jacket. Fits true to size. I am an XL - very curvy - and it fits perfectly throughout.

The quality of fabric is lacking.

I bought the Atom Hoody in 2023. I have worn it as a outside layer for walking in cooler weather. The down jacket I have was too warm when working up a sweat while walking. Overall the jacket has been very useful. I don't get too hot while walking and it keeps me warm enough for a windy/cooler walk.
However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the fabric. I have noticed that the outside fabric is puckering and is not holding up well at all. For a jacket that is very expensive, I would expect higher quality fabrics being used. The older Arcteryx products have been much better quality. I have had the down Cerium Hoody since 2017/18 and its still holding up well, unike this 2023 Atom Hoody. I know they are different products, however quality should still hold up no matter what product it is.

My absolute favorite jacket!

Keeps me warm no matter what! Always my go to for hiking the White’s in NH, during the Winter months. Super light weight and not bulky. Plus they always offer the best color options! The brighter the better IMO!

keep making changes

I second the other review. All of a sudden you keep making changes. You were offering a great, functional product that had great reviews. Then you went ahead and changed names for the lightweight and heavyweight, then you messed up the hood, making it hard to use. Then everything disappeared from the website and now I can’t understand which one of the jackets you’re offering and the colors look cheap. We want quality and functional features, otherwise there’s plenty of other brands that offer crappy jackets with issues and ugly colors. You were offering realizability, now Id rather shop elsewhere because clearly there’s disorganization and lack of understanding for your customers.

We have updated it with a new FC0 material and added recycled fabrics to the side panels and lining. Plus, we have refined the fit with a wider collar and roomier sleeve openings, giving you more freedom to move and layer comfortably. Second one in my collection. Lightweight, stretchy and just warm enough so I don't overheat when I start moving.

The atom line is one of my all time favorites. It’s lightweight but provides plenty of insulation and is the perfect mid layer on cold stormy days!
