Question 1

Est ce que cette veste peut être utilisée comme veste de ski et donc supporter des températures négatives?

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Question 2

Hi, May I know the back length, chest and hem circumference in cm for the M and L size? Thank you

Question 3

Will adding proton hoody over atom or even a shell be efficient in adding warmth or it doesn't do much compared to a belay jacket since this is a breathable piece? I have the proton hoody too big so it doesn't work for me as a mid layer

River, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hello Yong, layering the Proton Hoody over an Atom or a shell will add some warmth, but not in the same way a true belay jacket would. The Proton is built as an air‑permeable midlayer, so it’s designed to release heat during movement rather than trap it. When you place it over another insulated piece — or over a shell — you’ll get a small bump in warmth from the extra synthetic insulation, but it won’t deliver the high level of heat retention you’d expect from a purpose‑built belay jacket. Since your Proton Hoody fits too large to function well as a midlayer, you may find that it doesn’t seal in warmth effectively when worn on top either. For situations where you need a significant boost in warmth while stationary, a dedicated belay‑weight insulated jacket will perform much better.

Question 4

Would the proton be a good jacket for running at -15C in the winter ? With just a base layer tshirt or long sleeve? or too hot?

Seymour, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Joël, thanks for reaching out. The Proton Hoody provides breathable warmth for climbing and high-output mountain activities and features 80gsm Coreloft™ Compact insulation. That said, we do not rate our garments for temperature as there are too many factors that influence this result from person to person, and we recommend referring to our layering guide for more tips on staying warm: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/layering-guide/

Question 5

I'm curious what the chest, waist and hem lengths are for this vs the current Proton Hoody in size medium. I had two older Proton LT's and the size was perfect. The new version is way too baggy. Curious if this is closer to the old Proton LT fit.

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question. Here are the size‑medium measurements for the current Proton Hoody compared to the older Proton LT Hoody. In recent years, the Proton LT was renamed to the Proton Hoody. While the overall design, materials, insulation, etc, are similar, there have been some updates to the fit. The previous Proton LT Hoody fits slightly smaller than the current Proton Hoody.

Proton Hoody Men's (X000008436)
Chest Width: 118cm
Waist Width: 108cm
Hem Width: 110cm

Proton LT Hoody Men's (X000006728)
Chest Width: 116cm
Waist Width: 106cm
Hem Width: 108cm

We hope this helps.

Question 6

Can this be made without a hood again? I need it without a hood for ice climbing and downhill skiing. I need it with a hood for alpine climbing. Both are necessary. thanks!

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Hi Serena, thank you for reaching out and sharing your input. At the moment, we do not have any immediate plans to offer a hoodless version of the Proton again. That said, we have passed on your comments to our team for future consideration as we continue to refine our line and product offerings. We understand how having a Proton without a hood can be useful for some users and in certain use cases, so we appreciate you pointing this out and sharing your input. Question 9

la proton hoody est-elle plus chaude que l'atom hoody ?

Helio, Arc'teryx Guest Services · Accepted Answer

Question 10

is it good for winter/extreme cold?

Helio · Accepted Answer

Hi there, thank you for your question! The Proton Hoody Men's is designed as a breathable insulation layer for high-output activities in cold conditions. It features 80gsm Coreloft™ Compact synthetic insulation, which is designed to balance warmth and breathability. The air-permeable Fortius™ Air 20 face fabric and liner help regulate temperature and manage moisture during active use. While it offers solid warmth for its weight, the Proton Hoody is not intended as a standalone piece for extreme cold. For colder conditions, we recommend either layering over the Proton Hoody with a shell or down piece to boost insulation or considering other options better suited for severe cold, such as the Thorium SV Hoody: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/mens/thorium-sv-hoody-9896. For guidance on layering over the Proton Hoody, feel free to check out our layering guide: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/layering-guide/
