Great not as amazing as it was!

I wore the old version of this coat everyday for 10 years. It was a amazing coat. It is now a great coat. In short go back to the old fit!
The good
The pockets which were the first to break on my old coat are made much sturdier than the old one. These will not break anywhere near as easily as the old netting.
The lining of the coat feels higher quality, it feels slightly warmer than the last coat. Which is a little weird because it's clearly been made to layer. But as a standalone nothing to complain about.
It's still an extremely functional coat. Pockets aplenty, zips great, storm hood large and responsive
The goodish
First putting it on you can immediately can tell it's roomier, supposedly this is to allow for easier layering. I never had any problems layering anything under the old gamma so it feels unnecessary. However I played about layering some layers underneath and it definitely feels good.
The bad
Due to the changes the coat isn't as comfortable as it was. The aesthetic is also negatively affected. I wear it for functionality so I am less fussed for this but I can see why it. Would put people off.
Conclusion
It's a shame because I tried a gamma on in store only a few weeks ago before ordering and it was the old cut. Definitely prefer the old one, but as I said. Still a great coat

Great Jacket, Updated Cut is a Miss

Still my favorite build quality and jacket premise, but Arc’teryx did not seem to listen to the previous feedback folks offered on the jacket — keep it trim, add some mobility in the chest/shoulder. The updated fit seems to offer a bigger belly and the same chest, which has been typical of the sizing updates in the last couple years. Sadly had to send it back, and hoping to see more offerings in the historical cuts that made Arc’teryx the go-to for me.

Eliminating Standard Features

I ordered this shell because my last one failed and they warranted it. This one is similar to the last one but seems a little lighter. Unfortunately it has no pit zips and no straps on the cuffs. Arc Teryx is obviously cutting corners and trying to appeal to casual users. I'll probably sell it on the secondary market and buy a different shell from a company that doesn't cut corner. Disappointing.

I don't think the Gamma MX ever had pit zips or Velcro cuffs. Other softshells have had those features, just not this model.

This jacket is nice and comfortable, however, the price tag shows 50 dollars less than the price I paid. The price increased, but the tag was not revised before sending the jacket to customer, it impacted the shopping experience.

C’est le second exemplaire de ce modèle que j’achète. Depuis la première version, beaucoup de petits points de détail ont été améliorés et corrigés comme les languettes des zips, les finitions de manches ou de capuche. Par contre la finition est toujours remarquable et la coupe est restée identique donc formidable !!! Dommage que la petite poche de manche ait été supprimée … Par contre cette Softshell reste une des meilleures, si ce n’est la meilleure de la production actuelle. Un super produit parfaitement adapté à la montagne et à sa météo changeante. Les finitions sont toujours aussi exceptionnelles est l’isolation est largement suffisante pour affronter bien des conditions …

Trust I hesitated on buying this because it’s a 400$ soft shell but honestly worth every penny. Haven’t worn it mountain biking yet. But I did wear on a few days with rainfall and it holds up pretty well. I did see some very wet marks on the ends of the cuff and bottom portion but it dried quickly and the water beaded right off. Quality is top tier and the fit is very close athletic type. I’m not a body builder and weight in at 150 pounds and 5’7 in height. I’ve tried wearing a fleece underneath and it felt like too much. Maybe a merino short sleeve or long sleeve would be the best combination with this jacket.

This is a nice jacket overall and I have followed Arcteryx closely for many years (with numerous pieces now). Somewhat unfortunately, the price tag shows 50 dollars less for the exact same model (not last year's) and in general this affected the overall purchase experience.

I’ve had several versions from the 4 way stretch power shield versions, with arm pocket and those more like the current version. All were good pieces just right for cool crag days to cold urban environments. Size up for heavier layers or smaller as a shoulder weather insulator.

GAMMA MX - ideal for a MiX of activities!

Purchased this jacket over month ago, and have used it for everything from cycling and nordic skiing to snowboarding. I have found it ideal for many active pursuits. The secret is picking the right mid-layer. When cycling, the jacket is perfect with just a heavy wool / light fleece mid layer. Hood is large enough to pull up over a bike helmet, yet still allows good visibility. The red color is a bonus, when riding in a town full of distracted drivers. On its own, the jacket is perfect for nordic skiing. Good length, plenty of stretch, yet very breathable. Nice to have the hood when you stop too. Two weeks ago, when temps were in the teens, I wore the jacket snowboarding with a light weight down shirt as my mid-layer and stayed comfortable the entire day. The cuff design is nice too - simple, yet functional. Ample room if you choose under cuff gloves (cycling/nordic skiing) or an over-cuff mitt (skiing/snowboarding).
I found the sizing to be accurate - I am 5'11" and 175 lbs and the large is ideal. Not too large on its own, but still allows room for a lightweight fleece / down jacket underneath.

This is the second Gamma MX Hoody I have bought, the first being when it was made with Gore Windstopper, I think its about 12 years old and out performs the latest version. The quality and fit have both been excellent, like all my Arc'teryx clothing. But the waterproofing on the current version is poor and incomparable to the older jacket. This is disappointing as I was expecting it to be, as good, if not better. One hour walking in light rain and I was wet through.

The jacket is OK, however, the tag on the jacket is $350, while I paid based on $400 tag price. I guess the price increased, but they didn't change the price on tag before sending the jacket to customer. Arc'Teryx should address that as it impacted the overall shopping experience in a negative way.

Best Hoody I could find with a bomber style fit.

Received my first Gamma MX Hoody today and is my first Gamma jacket( Yellow color ), after reading so many good reviews I just had to get one for myself and the fit is just perfect!
Not to big and layering is also great, have a cerium body warmer and an covert vest under it and is super warm and the stretch is very comfortable.

Ordered for my husband for Christmas, accidentally ordered a large instead of his usual size medium but glad I did because it fits perfectly, keeps him warm and protects him from the rain. seems durable enough for him to wear when he's working outside or on his car without worries of tearing or snagging the material. very handsome jacket.

Great jacket!

Bought it a couple of weeks ago and took it for a walk ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies. Very comfortable, warm and great fitting. Winds of over 60km/h but did not feel anything. Never felt cold. Great product!!! To have a few more options in colours would be good.

truly an all around piece. if it's not a downpour outside, you'll find me in this - climbing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, light running, etc, in the shoulder seasons here in the PNW, and i even find myself reaching for this even when things turn clammy in the summer
it breathes, it moves without restriction, it sheds light rain, the hood swallows a helmet but also cinches tight over your noggin when not wearing one, multiple front pockets store everything you may need and nothing you don't, fleece lining on the inside is oh so comfy
fit - I'm around 6"/182cm, with a long torso and arms. I typically size into large for casual clothes, medium for performance fit, and medium is great, rather tight for me. if i can be critical on one point, it's that i find it difficult to layer underneath thick, but as someone that runs warm, for anything i want to pick up this jacket for - that's not usually necessary.
