I love the AR-395a harness - it provides excellent support for the lower back and is very comfortable, especially during long belays. The broad waist belt distributes weight evenly, making it a great choice for hanging stances and multi-pitch routes.

Terrible fit

The harness is comfortable enough when you first put it but once its weighted while projecting or belaying it is a nightmare. Even with the adjustable leg straps, it is impossible to get the fit dialed-in enough to stop circulation being cut off to upper legs and groin when weighted. I bought it from an Arcteryx store where there wasn't anywhere in the store to try the harness weighted...my mistake I guess, but I also feel like Arcteryx stores shouldn't be selling harnesses if they don't have proper facilities to test harness fit under weight (ie something closer to actual climbing conditions). Now I am stuck with an expensive harness that's going to sit in my closet.

Simple construction and good fit

I've been using the harness for gym and ice climbing for three months and it's been wonderful. Caritools are easier to get on and off than other harness that I've worn. Buckles hold tension well and the harness packs down super small.
I typically wear a men's Large, but found that I was in between L and M. Opted for the women's Large instead which was a better fit than the two men's sizes. Still have enough room to wear over top of multiple layers when climbing ice.

Comfortable, low profile, functional.

I am a size 28 waist and I own the 2024 AR-395a harness in size "small".
This harness is well fitting and comfortable, despite being very thin and low profile. I have sat in this harness for an hour or two while hanging from a fixed rope for photography and have remained comfortable. 4 gear loops and 4 functional sized ice clipper slots (often sacrificed on other harnesses) means it works well from sport, to trad, to ice, to alpine.
The only minor issues are that the rubber gear loops get dirty easily, and that the mesh bag that the harness comes in is far to small and impossibly difficult to get the harness back inside of it.

This harness hits everything I wanted in a harness. It fits like a glove. The harness is perfectly sized to include a little extra room for puffy jackets to sit comfortably under. The ice clipper slots are perfectly located on the belt to sit right on your hips. So easy to see your ice screws and the rear clipper slots ideally out of the way while still easy to reach.
Construction is bomber! All the materials are heavy duty while still being a light harness over all! The buckles are smooth and easy to manipulate with gloves on.
