The best soft shell I've ever had
hace 4 años
I got this jacket for shoulder seasons in the Canadian Rockies (Spring to late Fall) and it did not disappoint whatsoever. I have used this jacket almost every single time I have gone out to venture in the mountains from climbing, backpacking, hiking, and so forth. It keeps you warm, protects you from windy conditions, has a decent amount of waterproofness to withstand short rainstorms, so many pockets for everything you need, and just such a great product. I would recommend this to everyone looking for a jacket that can do a little bt of everting.

Great jacket- warm and the water beads off!

Very happy with this. Wanted a jacket that was a soft shell, fitted and had some degree of waterproofing. went for rhapsody colour and love it! Highly recommend. This is my second jacket from Arc’teryx- great quality products and recommend to others.

Absolutely superb quality and fit . Love this jacket . I am 5,10 and 180 pounds 35 waste and size large is perfect . Looks so smart I wear this coat dog walking , trekking and doing out . Needs a sweatshirt or layers under if lower than 10 degrees otherwise a T shirt is fine

Great 3 season jacket for Midwest
hace 4 años
Fit, feel and look is amazing! I wasn't crazy about the pilot color so returned it. Make sure if you purchase right now that you don't return for a refund. I'm waiting 24 days for a refund after they received it. It's interesting how they can take you money in an instant and not refund for 24 days!!!

Great top but cuffs were too tight
hace 5 años
I've the hoody but returned it almost straight away. The cuffs were simply way too tight. If it wasn't for this single reason, I would have kept it 100%. I hope as the product now says 'Revised" the cuff size was adjusted.

Great Jacket but with flaws
hace 5 años
The Gamma MX lives up to its reputation of being a tough all around softshell. I personally think that the fit is really weird for Arcteryx though. The jacket has the shortest hem of any Arcteryx gear that I've ever tried on. Considering it has a somewhat climbing focus, you'd think it would be a little longer to accommodate a harness.

My Go-to-Shell Jacket!
hace 5 años
The Gamma MX Hoody is by far my most favorite and versatile piece of gear that I own. In addition to the light fleece lining, it’s breathable and does a fantastic job at wicking away moisture, it’s water resistant to light rain, extremely rugged and, in combination with my layering system, is my number one go-to soft shell and/or mid-layer jacket regardless of the altitude or where I’m climbing. So, whether ice climbing in Ouray in February, trekking to Everest Base Camp in March, rock climbing in Joshua Tree in March or climbing Kilimanjaro and/or Ebrus in June, this jacket goes with me everywhere I climb!
Ventajasgo-to-shell-jacket rugged breathable, lightly insulated adjustable stormhood, extremely comfortable external chest pocket, holds up well after repeated washing
Inconvenientesi've looked but haven't found one yet!
Sí, Recomiendo este producto.

A soft shell for all seasons
hace 5 años
Early season powder dump? Hooded Baselayer plus Gamma. Mid season freeze? Baselayer plus insulation vest plus Gamma. Spring baselayer plus Gamma. Skinning and snowshoeing? Sleeveless vase plus Gamma. It does it all.
I never require a hardshell while Resort skiing and rarely when in the backcountry. This Gamma with its super versatile good and tremendous overall comfort is my quiver of one outer layer top.
The pocket layout is awesome and allows me to bring the essentials and even a few of the inessentials on the gondola it up the trail.
With a good pair of bibs the Gamma will do it all for my six months of outdoor and ski related endeavors in Northern New Hampshire.

Great Softshell for everyday wear and hitting the trails
hace 5 años
Great jacket for wearing around town, and for hitting the trails on cool dry days. Wore it for a test run to 2200m on a -2C day, with a 40km+/hour wind and it held up great. As someone who prefers to throw on a softshell instead of layering underneath a hardshell, this jacket is great. The wind resistance and moisture resistance is impressive for a softshell. I think it will work great as a mid layer underneath my Beta AR on colder days as well, wouldnt recommend this as an outer in anything colder than -10C

Hey Brandon1991, the Gamma MX hoody is bar none my favorite go-to soft-shell jacket. In my experience, it's probably one of the most versatile pieces of technical gear from Arcteryx that that can stand on it's own two feet while rock or ice climbing or even as a mid-layer under my Alpha SV hard-shell when the weather turns nasty at altitude while in an alpine environment. Thanks for sharing!

Great jacket, way overpriced
hace 5 años
This is a great jacket, dont get me wrong. It is often a go to for me when conditions are mostly dry but still windy and cold out. This jacket does a good job of venting heat on long hikes and bike rides, and generally does a decent enough job of blocking the wind. My biggest issue with the jacket is that even after reapplying Arcteryx's waterproofing spray the jacket still doesnt do a job of handling rain above a light misting, and gets very cold and heavy when wet. I really like my jacket but it seems to perform as well as other jackets half its price. Also the fit runs a bit wonky, I'm 6'5"190lbs and I generally wear a large in active wear but my jacket is an XL and it fits me a bit large in the shoulders and sleeves but a bit short and baggy in the body, the large was generally too small with a lot of restriction to my movement.
Inconvenientesnot very water resistant at all, gets soaked quickly, gets very heavy when wet, slightly weird fit, doesnt insulate well when wet
No, No recomiendo este producto.

All-time Favorite
hace 5 años
Out of all the jackets I've owned in my lifetime, the Gamma MX Hoody is my all-time favorite insulated jacket for the weather in Oklahoma. It keeps the wind out and repels moisture well when keeping up with the NU repellant treatment bi-annually. I get many compliments on the jacket as well. The design is both handsome and functional. 100% recommend... you won't be disappointed!

Super versatile
hace 5 años
I got the Gamma MX for the increased weather protection and so far it has lived up to it. Used as a mid and outer layer in changeable conditions in the Scottish highlands with high winds, light rain, heavy snow and temps down to -5 degrees Celsius so far. A good level of breathability which is great for mountain ascents. A great fit and durable outer look great and make for a versatile jacket.

Not quite what I imagined.
hace 5 años
This version of the Gamma MX has been around for a long time. Long enough to secure a reputation as a great jacket. I went into this purchase with a preconceived notion of what I was buying. Which ended up being different than what the jacket actually is.
The first major thing is the fit. It feels, for lack of a better word, old. Arc'teryx doesn't publicly talk about how their fit changes, but it certainly seems to be evolutionary. New jacket designs have excellent proportions, great measurement matching to my body, and wonderful articulation in the pattern (eg. Fall 2019 Proton LT). The Gamma MX seems too big in the shoulders, too tight in the bottom hem, just kind of disproportionate all around, and lacking in refined articulation. To be clear, it is NOT a bad fit, and remains better than most other companies. However, I have become used to a certain fit, and this one feels off. It is also fairly short in the rear hem.
Looking at other parts of the design, more things are not up to par with the latest Arc'teryx offers. Cuffs are simple, there are no Cohaesive cord locks, elastics thread into the garment multiple times. There is only one hood volume adjuster (crown), and it doesn't seem to configure the hood as nicely as you'd like. Once again, none of this is actually bad, it is the expected level of execution for many other companies. But Arc'teryx is a victim of their own success. Their newer designs are cleaner, lighter, easier, and we want that on all of our jackets.
Also worth discussing: construction. If you analyze an Arc'teryx hard shell, everything is very cleanly put together. Seams are flat, everything is laminated flush, the inside is practically as neat as the outside. The Gammas are more like "traditional" jackets in that the inside isn't as nicely finished. This is especially true on the Gamma LT, which can look a bit rough inside. The Gamma MX interior is fleecy, so it looks cleaner. But it is not built such that the pockets sit between a hung fleece liner and the outer face. The fleece is laminated to the back side of the face textile, so the mesh pockets and much of the construction is visible inside. This isn't bad or good, it is simply interesting.
The main zip is not waterproof, but it is backed by a generous rubberized flap that provides sufficient weather protection. There are no interior pockets on this jacket. It does have hood elastics for closing up the face opening, but they are routed inside the jacket. There is no waist elastic. The feel of the thin liner fleece is great, soft against skin. It layers over stuff sort of poorly because the fleece is grabby, and the sizing can be awkward for "shell" use. It works better over thin layers, at most an Atom LT.
Functionally the jacket is quite wind resistant, fairly water resistant, and durable. It handles the MX designation well, and I am happy to wear it into changing weather. Drizzle, snow, wind, whatever, it's all fine (for a limited time).
The Gamma MX is comfortable. It's just nice to wear. It works great for missions that are within your comfort zone. Day-long outings where you know what to expect, and are just going out to have fun. You can ski with it, go for a climb, mountain bike, or hike. It does everything well, and you can often just wear it over a base layer and be totally fine all day. It's also pretty unbeatable around town.
I would not bring the Gamma MX when doing technical objectives that are pushing against your comfort zone. It is quite heavy, weighing similar to an Alpha FL + Delta LT. It isn't all that breathable for a soft shell. If you spend awhile in the rain it takes on water, then gets heavy and cold. It's not truly windproof, and gnarly gusts can cut through and chill you. If you are putting your life on the line, you need a hard shell. If you are min-maxing your kit because the approach is very difficult, or the conditions are awful, or you will be out for days. Then bring more versatile and technical stuff, leave the Gamma at home.
This makes it sound like I don't like the jacket, but really I do like it quite a lot. Most of the things most people do every day are within their comfort zone. They start and end at the car in one day, or a handful of hours. The Gamma MX is great for all of that. I do think that the jacket could use updating to a modern fit block, along with modern features.
Some more trivia:
The chest pocket zips are actually facing backwards, the zips are on the pocket flap, not on the body of the jacket. For some reason the left hand chest pocket has a laminated strip backing the zip, but the right hand one does not. I don't know why.
There are a lot of features that are laminated directly to the fleece interior. Everything from the entire bottom hem, to pockets, and the hood brim. I wonder how long-term durable these laminations are?

Not very durable
hace 5 años
I wear a lot of clothes from Arc'teryx and consider it the best. But in this jacket the truth that has disappointed me and much, is breaking and not by wear but by failures in the seams on the skirts.
Anyway, it is probably a failure or some manufacturing and I will continue to wear Arc'teryx clothing which has given me many joys.
Ventajasgood garment
Inconvenientesit breaks without excessive use
