Nothing like the website colours. ? New sizing too

I love Arcteryx jackets, so much in fact that I actually have 6 of them. I love bright fun colours when mountaineering - being immediately seen is important to me should the worst happen. Recent colours have been supremely disappointing, so imagine my excitement when the Mesmer colour appeared online!!! Ummmmm, nope. It’s nothing like the colour online. That beautiful bright vibrant pink is a fairly dull pinky-lilac in real life. Surely the fact that this colour sold out instantly in every size should tell the product team that women want some colour in their lives?! I’m baffled at the muted neutral colours this season. Give us some beautiful purples, some stunning reds (not more orange-red, actual red), something actually fun! Please!! And the new sizing is way off for Arcteryx jackets. My current Lg Cerium is snug, but the new XL is more like an XXL. It’s huge. In fairness, I’d have to say that the sizing is more inline with other brands now, definitely appears much roomier than previous sizing. So I’m sadly returning both the new Atom and Cerium in Mesmer because they’ve massively disappointed me with their fit and colour. Technically speaking they can’t be faulted - I already have them both in different colours, hence buying new versions. They really are awesome jackets, just don’t believe the website colours!!
Q: Pros:
A: Technically superb
Q: Cons:

Warm & Lightweight

I bought this jacket for my PCT thru-hike after comparing a lot of different down jacket specs. I loved this and would choose this jacket over and over again. I ended up carrying this jacket the entire time because I was very nervous about being cold and it was my go to in camp. I hardly wore the jacket while hiking just because it was so warm. I had a lighter color which showed a lot of dirt (after 5 months it look pretty filthy) but I washed it with down special soap once I finished and it came out looking new! I’m 5’7” and about 140 lbs and medium was the perfect size.

Light and fast

This jacket lives in my pack for long distance runs. I live in the mountains, so it is possible a storm can roll in at anytime. It is also nice to know if for some reason I have to be out longer than anticipated I have a warm jacket when I need it. It is light and packable. I just recently ran the Grand Canyon and the temperature swing was 60 degree fahrenheit. At the beginning I needed the warmth for only a short period of time before heating up, so it was nice that I could stow it easily. Then I was happy to have it on the other side as the temps dropped again.

Go to puffer!

I bought this puffer last winter because the Thorium was out of stock for months and there was no sign of it coming back anytime soon. I was in the market for a new everyday puffer and was hesitant based on this style being designed more for layering and the Thorium being more durable for the elements. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I provides the perfect amount of warmth and pairs well with my shell when it's wet or there are higher winds. I will say that the outer layer feels quite thin and like it could easily snag, but it packs up very small and is great for travel and hikes. I am typically between a small and medium at Arc'teryx and medium fit perfect. (Size small in my beta lt)

Amazing solo or under a shell

Bought this jacket in preparation for my Antarctica trip and brought it to Peru as an after thought and I am glad I did! This was definitely my most-used item in my pack and the item I was most complimented on. While hiking the Inca Trail it was perfect for the cool morning/evenings and folded up into a small pillow during the night! It was the perfect addition to my day pack for the chilly summits above the clouds. While not on the Inca Trail it was perfect for touring around Peru and o was glad I had it for every Instagram shot.

Poor abrasion resistance, otherwise good

Jacket was less than a year old when it developed a fabric tear on the back apparently related to the presence of my backpack. As I am a photographer, not wearing a backpack is not a solution. Customer service puts this down to "wear and tear" and offered a discount on a future purchase. This is the first Arc'teryx product to fail me, which is disappointing as my entire winter outfit is from this company. I expected better quality, especially at a premium price. I was going to order another jacket, but have noted multiple reviews also mentioning the problem of fabric tears and down spillage with other styles (e.g. Thorium jacket). I am not sure at this point whether I will stay with the brand or purchase elsewhere. I am okay with paying top prices for top quality severe weather gear, but not for products which do not hold up. In summary, you may get good wear from this jacket if you do not carry a backpack, but I cannot confidently endorse it.

Mottled appearance due to dark feathers

I received the Cerium LT in yellow as a present. While the jacket looked awesome online, the jacket I received is riddled with black spots and looks positively mottled. I have contacted customer support and been told that this is a normal effect of the various colours of the down used, not a defect, and that "most customers care more about the technical characteristics than the appearance". While that may be true, I did also want this jacket for its appearance, so I'd strongly advise you to buy a dark colour if a dirty appearance might bother you. I also think it would be better to publish photos of the article that will give you a realistic impression of the actual appearance. Since the reply took three weeks, it was also too late to return the unworn jacket and I am seriously considering switching to a different brand. This is not what I would have expected at this price.

Customer Support
Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Arc'teryx with your feedback on the Cerium LT Hoody. We're sorry to hear about your experience with the Cerium LT Hoody. The Cerium LT Hoody will use incredibly minimal fabrics, and depending on the color, the down feathers can definitely show through the product as technical properties of this garment take priority over the appearance. Arc'teryx recognizes that not everyone needs minimalist and ultralight outdoor products, which is where the thicker fabric of the Thorium AR may be a more suitable option for you. If you have any additional comments or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department at 1-866-458-2473 (available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM PST), one of our representatives would be glad to chat with you. I recently visited the Arc'teryx store in Whistler and the fabric for both of the pink colours was see-through and very thin. A durable jacket at a price of $450 Canadian should be built and designed to higher quality and standards. The majority of the webpage reviews are from many years ago when the quality of Arc'teryx products was excellent. This is unfortunately no longer the case.

Great jacket, crap zipper

I bought this jacket a month ago and have worn it nearly every day. One of the most comfortable and well fitting jackets I've owned, perfect for cold and dry days. Unfortunately, two weeks ago the plastic zipper clasp at the bottom chipped and now the zipper splits open at the lightest stretch. Crazy that for a $450 jacket, they used such a weak zipper (compared to the Atom LT or any Gore-tex outer shell). Still waiting for customer service to respond to my claim...
Q: Pros:
A: Warm, light weight, comfortable
Q: Cons:
A: Cheap zipper, down visible
Q: Activity
A: Light hiking, dog walking, before/after high energy activity

No, I do not recommend this product.

Washing, Down Migration, and Down Clumping Issues

I have this jacket in the lovely when clean Dew Drop color, which is very light, thus necessitating frequent washing otherwise even with infrequent use the cuffs and collar become dirty rather quickly. Therein lies the issue. I have followed all of the washing instructions to a T. I have washed this jacket with other down jackets manufactured by other pricey and reputable outdoor brands and this one is a disaster. After three cycles in the dryer with two tennis balls and two wool dryer balls all of the down clumps to the backside of the arms - my other brand jackets came out fluffy as ever with no clumping/migration issues with the down. This has happened every time I have washed the jacket (even by itself), so I can only conclude that it must be a defect with the jacket, not my washing procedure. I have many, many other Arc'teryx pieces that have been wonderful (the Patera Parka is one of the best in my closet and I wear it daily in the winter), but this jacket just does not live up to the advertised quality and "innovative" design of the Arc'teryx brand. Based on other reviews I've read regarding the issues with the down, how long the warranty process takes (2+ months), and the likelihood that the company will determine this isn't covered by warranty as it has done with so many other purchasers of this jacket, I am probably stuck with a very expensive purchase that cannot be washed (this is usually very dirty looking) or else it won't be insulating and will likely stay in the closet.
Q: Pros:
A: Nice color when clean, very light
Q: Cons:
A: Significant issues with down
Q: Activity
A: Skiing

No, I do not recommend this product.

Awesome jacket- wish I bought a darker colour.

I've had this jacket for about 6 months and haven't had major issues. It fits well and is really warm. When it's raining, I always wear a Goretex rain jacket. My only comment is that the brown feathers showing through the bright coloured jacket makes it look dirty and mottled. It's most obvious around creases (elbows and armpits). At first, I thought it was actually dirt and did a thorough clean (followed the instructions arc'teryx put out for washing down). When the jacket looked essentially the same after the wash, I realized it was probably something else and it looks to be a common issue with the dark feathers. If you want a lighter colour, pause and decide how much you care about this since you are dishing out a lot of money.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Strange Pear-Shaped Fit With Arms/Torso 1.5" Short

First, the positives: (1) With regard to warmth, the Cerium LT is instantly warm from the moment you put it on. (2) The Whiskey Jack color is rich, beautiful, and my favorite shade of grayed purple. (3) The hood fits (and stays on) the head flawlessly. (4) Weighs next to nothing, which is my preference for such pieces as I can wear them all day and stay very comfortable. (4) Top of zipper not sharp (unlike the Atom AR, which digs into the neck and chin, making it painful and unwearable). {For reference, I am 5'8", 130 lbs, 34B, 32-33" pant inseam, size 11/42 feet, size 8/9 gloves, long torso, and long arms. I have numerous Arc'teryx pieces and am a big supporter of this brand. While they do not do everything well, they do A LOT well, particularly from waist to neck. Depending upon the piece and the desired application, I wear everything from size small to size large in this brand.} Now for what needs improved in order for this jacket to actually be a truly functional piece (were these improvements implemented, I would definitely buy more of this jacket and recommend it to everyone that I know): (1) Unfortunately, sizing is awkward, confusing, and frustrating. The medium size works best for me in the Cerium, as it does not bind in the shoulders or pinch under the arms, while still allowing a merino base-layer and/or vest underneath, and a rain or snow shell over-top. The arms on the Cerium are a good 1.5" too short. Even sitting here typing at my desk I am annoyed by this. The length only works if you do not plan to move at all. I do not have abnormally long arms for someone of my height; merely average. The length of the arms on this jacket look ridiculous on me, especially if I extend my arms even a little; a bit like my jacket shrunk or I am wearing a teenager's size 16 version of adult gear. The torso is also too short (especially in the back) by at least 2". This is the biggest problem with the jacket. (2) The fit is very strange and pear-shaped around the middle of the torso, with (as usual for Arc'teryx pieces) no way to cinch in or adjust the fit around the mid-section. The combination of this garment being too short in both arms and torso, combined with the strange pear-shaped situation, makes for a very unattractive fit on those of us who have a long, slim, athletic build. In my opinion, the absolutely ideal length of torso and arms would be the Nuclei (in size medium, though it is much too big around the mid-section, with once again no option for adjusting the size/width of the torso). I had high hopes for the Cerium, because I desperately need a light-weight down jacket of this sort, but the fit and arm length issues in particular make me feel irritated (despite the warmth and coziness it provides) every time I put it on. I am keeping this jacket for three reasons: (1) The instant warmth factor. (2) The Whiskey Jack color. (3) The reality that I cannot seem to find anything else that is similar enough by any other brands, that will actually fit under my REI rain shell (which has tapered arms and wrists). Being cold is painful, and I prefer to avoid it as comfortably as possible. However, I also expect beautiful, streamlined, pieces, offering flattering feminine cuts for my body type. Alas, the Cerium does not currently fit the bill. However, if these issues I have outlined above were addressed and improved, I would be the first to sing the praises of a revised version.

You can see the down

I bought this a few weeks ago. Now that it’s started to rain, you can see all the dark feather down through the jacket. I’m quite disappointed this was overlooked in the design process. My advice is to choose a dark coloured jacket so that this does not happen to you.

Customer Support
Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Arc'teryx with your feedback on the Cerium LT Hoody. We're sorry to hear about the fabric issues you are experiencing with your Cerium LT Hoody. The Cerium LT Hoody will use incredibly minimal fabrics, and depending on the color, the down feathers can definitely show through the product. Also, it is not recommended to wear down products as stand-alones in wet weather as this can adversely affect the down unless those down products use a waterproof Gore-Tex face fabric. We recommend using your Cerium LT hoody in conjunction with a Gore-Tex shell if you will be in wet weather. Also, as the jacket appears to have been exposed to moisture, we recommend using our Down Wash Instructions right away to properly care for your product: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-care?intcmp=product-care If this is the case though and you believe this is a manufacturing issue, please be sure to fill out a Product Service Request Form. We would be happy to look at your case: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request/ If you have any additional comments or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Department at 1-866-458-2473 (available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM PST), one of our representatives would be glad to chat with you. All the best
