Perfect cold weather belay jacket

Excellent belay jacket. Warm, lightweight and windproof. Very comfortable. Good length, excellent coverage. Sizing on the larger side, slips easily over a shell jacket. It´s always in my backpack for winter hikes, it´s keeping me warm when I stop moving. Great Arcteryx quality and attention to details. This is one of their signature products.

excellent very warm jacket.

this is the warmest most comfortable ive ever purchased, forget down jackets if you feel the cold like i do this will keep you warm no question, looks great aswell, slightly expensive but worth every penny, love it.

Great belay jacket

I’ve only had this a month, but so far it’s the most perfect belay jacket I’ve had, mega spacious to get over other layers. Feel instantly warmer when you put it on, it’s very wind proof too with great length. I’ve bought it in mind of an expedition to Norway in July and In the depths of winter on the Hardanger plateau next Feb.

Emergency winter fortress

A little about me – 1.75m (5ft 9in) tall and weigh 73kg (161lb). My chest measures 108cm (42.5in) and waist 84cm (33in) with an athletic build normally a size medium in Arc’. I ended up sizing down to a Small in the Nuclei SV and it is still manages to get over my layers in those cold, wet, Scottish winters! (that means it comfortably gets over Phase base + Rho Heavyweight fleece + Proton FL + Alpha AR. The loft is amazing - it inflates almost as much as down (but quicker!) and is super warm for belays or emergency use in cold, cold temperatures! I have the Lampyre colourway which looks cool against my blue Alpha AR

Solid, and affordable for its size

This jacket is warm and super useful for winter climbing. I have tended towards synthetic for ice climbing, and this thing has been the ticket. That said, I wish the face fabric was more burly.

Misleading Colour

Nice jacket but it’s grey. Colour is called Graphene but is grey. It’s not even close to black it’s fully grey. Not sure how the pictures make it look black. Was totally surprised when it turned up as I thought they sent the wrong jacket.

Warm and durable

I bought the jacket for my son and one for myself. It is durable and very warm. We both love it. We have had other puffer jackets (from other brands) and they are not durable. It was great to find a super warm and durable jacket. We expected quality and we got it.

great synthetic parka for cold temps

I was looking for a heavy synthetic parka to replace a much loved Patagonia DAS parka. This fit the bill and it might be the only jacket around that does in the last month temps have been as cold as -25f, and this thing is toasty.

Best jacket for winter missions

I bought this jacket after several experiences of being cold when belaying during ice climbing. Now the cold is not a problem anymore! Definitively go size down. I am normaly size M on revised products and size S on non-revised. I bought size S and it fits over my hardshell without any problem and once I put it just on base or mid-layer, is not too much bulky. The hood is quite big and insulated, but there is also shock-cord at the back, to tighten it more. It works without helmet too, but looks better with helmet under :D Worth of buy and 100% recommended

Great jacket, read me

I daily this jacket, and it does a great job at keeping me warm while being very lightweight. I haven’t worn it in temperatures colder than -10c, but I feel confidently warm in just the Nuclei and a t-shirt at -5c. This jacket is also deceptively big. Pros - Price - Warmth - Weight (very, very light) - Large inside chest pockets - Very warm insulated hood - Pretty good build quality considering the weight Cons - The front packets have little insulation, so even with your hands in them it’ll still feel the cold Recommendations Size down if you want to daily it and don’t need plan on wearing many thick layers. I can wear a Covert Q-Zip or thick sweater underneath and still have a comfortable amount of space.

Warm, and a great price

I have used the Nuclei SV in Canada, and in Northern Norway, and I have been so impressed with the warmth of this garment. This is how I usually layer this garment; Layer 01: Rho LT Baselayer, Layer 02: Delta MX Hoody, Layer 03: Proton Hoody, Layer 04: Alpha SV Jacket, Layer 05: The Nuclei SV Hoody. This system of dress has been very warm in winter camping temps of around -20 Celsius. I also love bringing the Nuclei SV Parka with me when I am skiing because it is an excellent static piece of insulation, expecially if you are in a moisutre prone enviroment and don't want to deal with down insulationm. In conclusion, this is a reliably warm piece, with a great price

Best synthetic jacket.

Just picked up the 2023 version. Overall the best synthetic jacket I have ever bought from Arc’teryx. I found the outer shell to be much more durable than feared. The graphite color looks great. Super warm and plenty of pockets. The regular fit is great for an extra layer underneath, but it also works as a stand alone piece. I’m 6’2 and 225 lbs, and I got size L. Perfect fit.

Warm jacket

Bought this jacket to simply wear around town. After receiving it I wore it in a temperature of 29 degrees and was warm with nothing more than a t-shirt underneath for like 20 minutes. The jacket is definitely warm and lofty. It is a bit bulky but quite lite and comfortable. The hood seems warm but is rendered completely useless by its size!!!! It's humongous and even with it cinched closed its ineffective with huge gaps on both sides. The outer material is soft and is quiet but VERY thin. This is not a jacket that can be used as a primary outer garment it will not hold up. If there's one big drawback it's the outer shell. If your looking for something that will last with extended use look elsewhere.

So stoked!

I bought this jacket for 2 purposes… 1) as a transition jacket during backcountry splitboarding and 2) an emergency layer for alpine climbing/hiking. This jacket is seriously warm and fits perfect over a shell. Stuffs into its own sack and makes a perfect pillow. This jacket will be in my pack all winter!

Very light, very warm, very delicate.

Extremely warm, but purposefully delicate, I would not use this as a daily driver winter coat, it will likely not last. Perfect for packing into a cold location and pulling out to stay warm when stationary.

Warm High Value Belay Parka

Probably the best synthetic belay jacket on the market. Cut well to fit over all of your layers, superior hood to a DAS parka, reasonable weight, (24oz in an XL). Great piece for multiday trips where things are humid with wet snow where you don't want or need to worry about moisture, or want a piece you can use to cook your layers dry in while sitting in your tent.

I bought this a few weeks ago and have had the opportunity to use it in cold weather operations. The jacket is extremely light and keeps out the elements very well. It is more than warm enough for lunch at the top of the up track and packs down to a great small size.

Save your money

Use to love Arc’teryx. I have many pieces as old as 15 years going strong. Haven’t bought anything in the last 5 but decided to replace a few synthetic mid layers. What happened? The material feels cheap, the fit is boxy now, the articulation is gone, cheap plastic zipper pulls? For this price? My old nuclei has more loft then this brand new one. Will be returning and not coming back till (if ever) these horrible redesigns and materials are fixed.

Warmth Regardless of the weather

I bought this last winter and have worn it more than 100 days since. I am an avalanche educator and spend long hours moving slowly in adverse weather from -10F to gusting 60mph+ and torrential rain & this jacket always keeps me warm and comfortable. The Inside stuff pockets are great for keeping gloves warm or keeping snow study tools easily accessible when its time to run pit tests or look at snow grains. It's also incredibly packable for its warmth.

Not up to the quality one would expect

As others have stated the quality of this jacket is just not there. Specially for an SV jacket. I've already had a tear in the fabric after only one month. I suspect the tear was there at the ime of purchase since i've only worn i once. Either way it is unacceptable for such a fairly pricey jacket. Add to the fact that customer service wont replace or repair it without cost i feel one should avoid it. Other than that is is quite warm. I would size down since it is a bit larger than Arcteryx other jackets.

Great warmth but horrible durability

I bought this jacket a few months ago md were it to my kids hockey games. The coat is vey warm and light hover the durability of the fabric is useless. The coat will rip or tear if you bump against anything. Save your money and buy a different more durable coat; unless you like wearing a torn up mess in in only a few months. I cannot image what this coat would look like if someone actually wore in the outdoors considering it can’t even take light wear in suburbia. Arc’teryx quality has really gone down hill over the years, so sad.
