Beauty piece for cold-weather ski touring, super versatile in all seasons and extremely well made, but sizing has changed considerably. Regarding the size large — athletic lean build, wider chest and shoulders, 165 lbs. and about 6’ when wearing ski/hiking boots — the newer revised fit is baggier, longer in length and much roomier than the 21’ Proton. Hood is good when cinched, not too voluminous considering it’s helmet compatible. Longer sleeves are appreciated for glove use and protection from the elements. Usually go with the large to wear some layers beneath and to accommodate “bunching” of the garment or a general shortening of the sleeve length when wearing a backpack/hip belt/shoulder straps. But the revised large is honestly borderline belay jacket in size, like my 19’ Nuclei, which I throw on during ski descents or standstills without even undoing the zipper. Will make this revised-fit Proton work, but for final sale/non-returnable purchases please be advised. Should have gone with the medium. Also, to dial in the fit when you’re unable to try on the garment, or before making any purchase for that matter, would recommend contacting Arcteryx and acquiring measurements/dimensions for an older, time-tested Arcteryx piece, which you’re satisfied with in terms of fit, then doing the same for the garment you’re interested in buying, and comparing those numbers to gauge potential fit. Works every time. Also, be wise and read the official Arcteryx-homepage product reviews before purchasing.
