Farther. Faster. More direct. Jane Maus’ relationship with the mountains, and how she moves through them, is always evolving. Growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah, she quickly took to the trails of the nearby Wasatch range, but soon dreamed bigger, hiking the 800-kilometre Camino de Santiago trail in Spain and the 782-kilometre Colorado Trail. Then she traded her backpack for running shoes, finished her first 50K, and rose quickly through the racing scene.
Today she competes at every distance from 10K to 100K, and specializing in steep, technically-demanding terrain. And she's dreaming beyond the trail to routes and goals that increasingly blur the line between running and climbing: In 2025, she claimed the FKT on the scrambling-heavy Grand Teton, and has her eyes on several speed records that link peaks, travel ridgelines, and require the use of hands as well as feet.
"I’m inspired by the landscapes I get to move through, and the ability to push myself hard in this environment is what keeps me coming back every day,” she says. “Moving quickly in the mountains feels very natural to me, and the opportunities to do so are truly endless.”
