Great features, warm, comfy but runs really big!
Overall, I really liked how the jacket was warm and cozy. I purchased size XS. However, as other reviews have mentioned the fit of the jacket is poor - it runs really big! I typically wear an XS for arc'teryx insulated jackets, but this was about 2 sizes too big even with a fleece sweater layer underneath. It was about 1 size bigger in the arms, fits fine in the shoulders, but 2 sizes bigger in the core (I could grab two handfuls of excess material). I intended to use this as a technical jacket during colder months in the Alberta alpines, but because of the improper sizing and I wasn't able to return at the time, this jacket has been used for cooler days in the city or an extra layer for front country camping. It also turned out to be good layer for sleeping - it added a few extra degrees to my sleeping bag for winter car camping. I don't recommend purchasing this jacket until they figure out the sizing issue. It's a nice jacket, but expensive for what it is.

Bad fitting proton
I had to return the Proton. The fit just doesn’t work for me. The shoulders and arms are fine, with enough room for another jacket or a thick sweater underneath. However, the lower part and the waist don’t fit well—the belly sticks out completely, and the bottom is too long, extending over the hips, which makes it impractical for active use.
Where have the athletic jackets gone that are designed for people with muscular arms and a narrow waist? I hope Arc’teryx adjusts the fit of the Proton, just like they did with the new Atom—providing enough room in the shoulders without being too long or too wide.
I’ll wait and hope that in the new season, the Proton Heavyweight gets an updated fit because the quality and materials of the jacket are truly excellent.

This is a really cozy piece. I love the brushed fleece lining in the hand pockets, the huge amount of pockets (like, 6! Perfect for hats and snacks and dog treats), as well as the relaxed feel of the piece. I’m a medium in the Proton and Atom lines and this size fits me well with a fleece underneath, or with my large shell on top. The heavyweight is breathable and great for chilly dog walks and as a warm synthetic layer under my shell on rainy cold days. For me personally it’s too warm to wear for any high output activity, but I run very warm when moving and freeze when static. I was trying to decide between the atom and proton, but eventually went with the proton because of its breathability and pockets. Really happy with my purchase!

Solid Proton option and TTS
Have had Protons for years, prob going back to 2016/17? Love the Heavyweight addition; this is one jacket I’d like to use as a standalone in more situations than I could with my mighty OG Proton.
I do not quite understand the comments about the sizing being *huge*. I ordered an XS in preparation for this, with my measurements falling in line with this size in almost all brands, save for my chest, which is bigger than most XS sizes want to accommodate for. So it’s always a toss up between a true XS or a S to accommodate the chest and any layers.
With this jacket, XS does it for me, and FWIW, my older Protons were XS too. I do feel this jacket bunches a bit more than the OG Proton, but it’s more heavily insulated — I should expect that — and it’s not cumbersome.
Love the stratus light blue color and wish I could get more things in it this year, but so many are sold out.
Hope to keep this jacket for a long time.
