Perfect Jacket for Every Activity

Living on BC's West Coast, the climate is mild, but we get our share of wet days. This jacket repels rain beautifully, the hood is perfectly designed to keep the drops off my glasses, and the collar comes up just to my chin (I prefer it to the higher ones, as I find them uncomfortable & an advantage only when in extreme conditions). Easy to maneuver in, thanks to the cut & styling, and the fabric is supple. It's the perfect jacket for my lifestyle; walking about & hiking, & a bit of skiing (I'm 75, so not so much now).

My wife purchased this jacket a year ago, and after doing some thorough research of my own, I decided to follow her lead and got mine yesterday. Overall, the jacket is excellent—well-designed and high-quality. However, there's one significant issue that kept me from giving it a full rating.
This is an outer jacket, which means it's meant to be worn over other clothing. Unfortunately, the designers of the Arc'teryx Beta jacket seem to have overlooked a key point: many men—especially older men—tend to carry some weight around the midsection. The jacket’s slim cut makes it a poor fit for those of us with a bit of a belly, effectively excluding a large portion of the intended market.
This "slim fit" trend seems to be popular across many clothing brands these days, but in cases like this, it comes at the cost of comfort and practicality for a broader range of customers.

Great all-rounder shell

This has been my go-to shell for the past year. Fit wise I went with a large, I'm ~182cm tall and ~180lbs. The jacket is loose enough to fit a mid-layer underneath like a Delta without being too restrictive which has been great for winter bike commuting.
The fabric is super durable - I recently wore my Beta mountain biking and the jacket survived hitting a tree and OTBing straight to my shoulder, I really did not expect the fabric to survive the sliding impact but the shell came out unscathed which was pretty awesome to see.
On a waterproofing standpoint the jacket has performed better than other shells I have had in the past. The upper limit is lower than the Alpha but for day hikes and bike commuting with rain I have had no problems remaining dry in inclement weather. Weight wise I would not necessarily grab this jacket for multi-day backpacking but if you're looking to only purchase one shell this will definitely do the job as the jacket packs into it's hood quite well and it compresses fairly easily.
Overall if you're looking to get one shell, this would be the one that would check most of the boxes!

Super content, mon fils a la même en noir et je l’ai porté en Rando sous une pluie battante. J’étais absolument sec. Et le SAV est irréprochable, mon fils sur sa veste à la fermeture qui a cassé : ils l’ont remplacé sans soucis. Ça reste un peu cher tout de même.

Stylish, Waterproof, and Ready for Anything

This Jacket is an excellent hardshell for the city and for light hikes. The fit is form-fitting but still leaves enough room for a base layer and a Proton underneath without feeling tight. It is very fashionable and looks great in almost any setting.
The only drawback is the sound of the fabric, which can be a bit loud at first, but you get used to it. I do miss having pit zips and might pick up the AR version or a lighter model in the future. Aside from that, this jacket is close to perfect for what it is meant to do.

No pit zips !!

Arcteryx makes everything for outdoor use and to not have pit zips in virtually every active jacket is perplexing…….i guess having gortex, low profile hood AND pitzips is too much to ask for a high end outdoor clothing mfr -when I guarantee that 100% of their customers want it…….confounding ….if you make it I’ll buy it right away!!

Among the Beta series, the Beta Jacket is the only one that does not include pit zippers, which can be a key feature for breathability and temperature regulation during high-output activity. If pit zips are essential for your outdoor pursuits, we recommend checking out the Beta SL or Beta AR. Both are equipped with underarm ventilation and designed for technical performance, combining GORE-TEX protection with thoughtful feature sets. Thanks again for the feedback, it helps us continue to refine our designs.

La veste BETA SL et la veste BETA AR ont des capuches trop larges car prévues avec le port d'un casque. Il est donc dommage que le seul modèle BETA dont la capuche est parfaitement ajustée au visage sans port d'un casque (veste réservée à la randonnée et non à l'alpinisme ou à l'escalade), ne soit pas doté de zip d'aérations sous les bras. La randonnée n'en est pas moins une activité où le corps transpire...

great rainjacket

Went for an overnight backcountry hike when it wasn't supposed to rain and i woke up in a downpour. This jacket is awesome, it fits me very well, its breathable and waterproof. I had read several reviews prior to buying it and the only drawback was that it was expensive, however, it is well worth the price I paid for it. I highly recommend it.
