Arc'teryx Scholarship 2013
Patrick Ormond, recipient of the Arc'teryx Scholarship for 2013, successfully completed his final ski guide exam after years of preparation and anticipation. Ormond, who currently resides in Ouray, Colorado, had to put down his ice tools this winter to concentrate on skiing as much as possible in order to be ready. He traveled north, picking up days of ski mountaineering, powder, and steep terrain, until it was time to fly to Alaska for the exam.
Feeling totally calm up until the day of, once he was on the road to the trailhead and the first day of a multiple day exam, Patrick's nerves took a beating. But by the time he was leading a group in search of good snow on a wind-blasted ridge, the challenges of problem solving and making solid, rapid decisions put everything in its place. After all of that, we're pleased to announce that Patrick is now an IFMGA/AMGA certified mountain guide.
We offer the Arc'teryx Scholarship through the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) to provide financial support for guides and help minimize the costs of training and certification. Applicants must be current members of the AMGA, with at least three years of guiding experience.
