ARC'TERYX Manufacturing in Bangladesh
We are very saddened and concerned by the recent factory disaster in Bangladesh. Our deepest sympathies go out to all the families involved.
Health and safety in the workplace is a high priority for Arc'teryx and we take steps to ensure that all of our employees are treated fairly and in a safe work environment.
We wish to assure everyone that we can say with the highest level of confidence that no Arc'teryx products were produced at that factory.
We retain permanent staff at all of our factories and they are audited by an independent 3rd party service at least once a year. If we find issues that are deemed to be of a higher severity they are audited more frequently to ensure these issues are corrected. This is a very thorough audit conducted by internationally recognized organizations like UL Responsible Sourcing Inc and Bureau Veritas and covers all aspects of worker rights and pay, workplace safety including fire escapes, building permits and licenses.
As with all countries including Canada and the US, there are many different levels of factory operations in Bangladesh. We only work with the very top end factories that are foreign owned and operate in export zones that have a much higher standard for building construction and worker rights and safety. In Bangladesh we work with only one factory. This publically traded Korean company has been producing outerwear for over 30 years. Their Bangladeshi operation started in 1981.
